PSX FFT Hacking / Re: FFTPatcher needs some lurve
July 07, 2011, 01:10:06 am
Well, I suppose that's a fair point. I guess maybe we should make an effort to point out that certain things that we may want, like a more encompassing patcher, are not as useful as other things that should take priority. Perhaps some of us who have been advocating this particular project should have been more understanding of that particular point of view, and I apologize for that. Projects that have already been started, such as various asm hacks (for example, fdc's formula hack; I'm very much looking forward to seeing that completed), or projects that will see a greater amount of use (a more user-friendly, comprehensive event editor, or perhaps a nice map editor or something) should see a greater emphasis then something like this. I mean, again, seeing patcher updated to a spreadsheet, and expanded to include recent hacks would be handy, but it's not essential. New things should be the main focus point, this is more of a side-project for someone to work on if they get frustrated with a current project or they're particularly bored.

And if that's the case, that's the case. It just annoys me that so many people seem to be making this out to be some kind of demand that has to be done right here and now.

Again, you're assuming that people are demanding that others stop what they're doing right now and get this done. This isn't "omg we need this right now, so if you don't stop your current projects and update this now we're going to kill your family", this is "hey, if someone has some free time and knows how to do this, it'd be really cool if you'd be willing to get this done."

I'm seriously annoyed at people who think they can decide whether someone else should or should not like something. It takes a lot to infuriate me, but after reading some "debates" about the legitimacy of the new my little pony show, I'm pretty enraged at the idiots who think less of those who like it AND irritated at those who can't understand that it might not appeal to everyone.

This.

Help! / Re: replacing wotl soundtrack
July 01, 2011, 02:42:37 pm
Actually, part of the problem is actually the sound effects themselves. Apparently when they were recording the sound effects, or throwing them into the game or something, they left out some important details like reverb. A lot of the sound effects are therefore massively different from the original (for example, Shadowblade/Night Sword). It is rather annoying,

I agree, at the very least, any project that has it's own subforum should be on the projects page.

There are plugins for cfw that let you take screenshots. Unfortunately, the only ones that I know of are also cheat-based plugins (coderPR, cwcheat, TempAR), but you don't have to use cheats to use the screenshot function.

Do you have the Analysis Toolpak (Excel) or AddIn (OpenOffice)? ALMA uses DEC2HEX/HEX2DEC which requires these.

Analysis AddIn seems to actually come standard with OpenOffice nowadays. For example, I haven't installed any extensions to OpenOffice myself, and yet I can still use the DEC2HEX function in OpenOffice Calc without do anything special.

I don't know whether or not Analysis Toolpak comes standard with Excel, because I don't have Excel. Don't have the money to spring for Microsoft Office, and it didn't come pre-installed on my laptop like it sometimes does...

They have a say in what they do, not any of you. They will contribute what they've made to the community, but the community will not force them to contribute what it wants.

That being said, why don't you ask them nicely to make EASY changes to FFTP, instead of asking them to go through hell and back just to make sure you lazy ****s can be lazier?
For instance: non-interactive map with coordinates in ENTD, that's easy, and I'm sure one of them has time to do it.
But you should ask nicely, or doit yourself.

Nobody's asking anyone to go through hell and back. We're asking if there's the possibility of updating patcher with things that already exist. AFAIK, we'd just need to add some tabs to patcher, and create a simple interface not tremendously unlike what people have already done with spreadsheets. If people are willing to do this, great. If not, we'll get over it. Honestly, we're making a big deal out of nothing. Besides, it's not like we're demanding anything in the here-and-now. Would I like to see patcher expanded and updated? Certainly. Does it have to be immediate, or specifically in .exe format? Not at all. It's already been stated that it'd be relatively simple to turn Patcher into a spreadsheet, and then we could just add in the already-existing spreadsheets. I certainly have no problem with that. I also have no problem with seeing any patcher updates being put on hold until decent event editors are worked on.

I'm honestly at the point where I'd much prefer to tell FFTPatcher to go suck some raunchy balls and have a Spreadsheet instead.

Honestly though, FFTPatcher doesn't need an update right now.  We need proper editors for ATTACK.OUT, TEST.EVT, etc. for people who want to edit events and other such things.  FFTPatcher combined with my spreadsheets and other tools such as ALMA still does its job, focus should be in the places we're actually incredibly weak or unable to do things in, not places where we can do basically everything but are mildly annoyed because the tool's a bit outdated and requires us to have a couple buddies for it on the side.

Why not do both? I'm sure there's enough interest in adding various things to FFTPatcher (ALMA, perhaps RAD, raw-stats editor, etc.) that there would be plenty of people willing to help out with this. At the same time, I'm sure there are also plenty of people willing to work on editors for attack.out, test.evt, etc. To be honest, I think more people would be interested in expanding FFTPatcher than making new editors, because there are only so many people who actually want to edit events in the first place. A lot of patches that I see floating around here are mostly just modifying skills, jobs, etc. to make things more balanced and interesting, while still following the original plotline. I'm sure there are more people who are frustrated by having to supplement FFTPatcher with manual hacking and/or spreadsheets than people who are frustrated by not having proper event editors.

As to Disgaea, they can be hard to made fit, not only cause of the size, but cause of the size too.
