Alma
"At first, we did what little we could while staying hidden. My brother was content away from prying eyes and living peacefully. Truly, we thought it had all come to it's end, but in reality we would soon discover it to be but a child's dream ... the true war, had yet to finish."

Goals: To provide a sequel to the original storyline, in hopes to provide answers to what happened to characters in the original, explain the stone's origins, Ramza's bloodline, and to create more in-depth character relationships.

The Damned

November 04, 2008, 08:27:42 pm #1 Last Edit: December 31, 1969, 07:00:00 pm by The Damned
Quote from: "Lydyn"There is a general goal to this though, in that it'll explain the stones more, Ramza's Ancestor, and an even deeper plot. I'm highly inclined to do a romance too (probably as a side quest) with one of the characters.

Since I'm a nitpicky bastard and in a bad mood, I would first like to get out of the way that you most likely mean "Ramza's descendant" not "ancestor", as that would mean a prequel*, not sequel.

Secondly, not to knock your writing ability (since I have no idea what it is), but I wouldn't try and offer a deeper plot right from the start, especially since some us can be utter fanboys when it comes to FFT (unsurprisingly) and plots that try to be (too) "deep" (which is an extremely nebulous descriptor anyway) can end up being seen as pretentious (*cough*Evangelion*cough*); similarly, a plot not need to be deep (or at least try conspiciously hard to be so) to be good or better than average (especially since "90% of everything is crap").

Next, I have to say right now that I'm not a big fan of romance in general, a particular dislike that has increased ever since I started working a bookstore and see that pretty much all Romance is either a)vampires (seriously) or b)bodice rippers/basically textual pornography. If you can pull off tactfully, then I probably wouldn't mind, but I'm probably in minority about minding so much about romance anyway.

Lastly, I will be glad to beta test for you since all I have is time (and, well, I now have another motive as you will see below) now for at least 7 months and I need something to prevent me from killing myself out of sheer crushing ennui. Please keep in mind that I'll still be beta testing Shuushin--I'll starting doing that again tomorrow--and that I still have to finish my normal playthrough of FFT 1.3 and its finalized DD.

So another playtester or two would be nice--this would probably do well for Shuushin as well.

P.S. I suppose, since it's relevant, I should get it out of the way here: I'm one of the people who liked/didn't mind FFT's nebulous ending as to whether Ramza (and co., Alma included) died saving the world from Altima.

However, I personally believe that they all did die. Ergo, I'm not sure how I would feel about there being a direct descendant of any Beoulve.

*Okay. So now we're at the end of this post. If you read this far (or skipped down like a lazy bastard out of curiosity when you saw the asterisk), then you're probably wondering what I've yet to say.

Well, since it's suddenly so relevant, I would like to announce that I'm currently in the very prelimnary stages of making a prequel (of sorts) to FFT that explains how a lot of things came to be in Ivalice. (I'll probably have to get around to playing Vargant Story if I can't get an accurate timeline of when it occurs.)

That's the patch that I've mentioned to you a couple times, Lydyn.

No, I meant ancestor. Altima mentions this at the very end, about how he is the descendant of the one who beat him before. So, I wish to cover more information about this ... though I respect your view on how it ended, I personally believe they didn't die - or maybe rather I choose to believe they didn't die. To me it somehow seems heroic that he kept living secretly and out of sight for the rest of his days (well, excluding the story of this patch of course).

When I mean romance, I ... mean romance. Not anything to do with vampires or sex. About the emotions and relationship that goes into falling in love. I mostly want to do this as a side quest because I know not everyone is a sucker for such things as I am. I love it, myself though and I do want to include it. For those who don't do the side-quest will likely get hints too it, but probably won't ever see it bloom.

Despite this, I really am glad you're still willing to help beta test this while you have. Testing Shuushin will still be a huge help for this as well, shince I'm using it as a base (though lots of things will still change). Whether you're willing to help with this story or not, I'd be willing to help you with yours when it comes around or you need ideas. :)

Lastly, but not least, by deeper ... I don't mean in the sense it becomes more complicated. Well, it sort of does, but I usually tell my stories in a way that there are huge twists and shocks, but not often as much complication as the original FFT. It will go deeper, as in the plot thickens, but not more complicated. There's no reason for that.

Oh, okay. I would have not remembered that even if I had known that you were alluding to something in the game. It's been a while since I've seen Altima's death (probably about a decade).

I'm completely fine with this project, then.

[For the record, I probably won't need that much help with me story outside of finding accurate timelines for things/things from the PSP version. I want to have a rough draft of it by around the time of December. Thanks though.]

I must interject on the point of Ramza & Alma's survival. The video showing the two of them visiting a grave after the funeral scene tells me they did survive. =)

if you need help with this count me in!!

2 things; however

1) Don't call it Resolution.. horrible title!!

2) We're gonna need to come to a consensus on what happened to Alma and Ramza

Whoa, Arch is helping!? :P Thanks. Uh, for the title ... you have a better idea? I looked up different words for "End" since the Sequel (or mine anyways) will show a true ending.

And yes ... we will. Like I said, I'd rather this be from prying eyes. ;)

I must offer a counterpoint: They were only seen by Olan and just happening to be rapidly passing through, instead, you know, stopping to at least say something, anything.

If Balmafula had been there as well, then I would be more inclined to believe that they were alive at the end, but between the aforementioned and the fact that when Altima dies, she dies in a huge fucking explosion, I think they got toasted.

It's unfortunate, but I think that's truer to Ramza's general character as tragic hero than a "happy" ending where he ends having to hide out with Alma for the rest of his life and then dies of either old age or an assassin.

Yeah, I'll agree to disagree, Vanya.

I can't say I'll be of help on the Ramza surviving front (outside the obvious question of how Olan would have found about Murond Death City to write it down), but feel free to hit me up on anything else story-wise, if need be, Lydyn.

I'll at least try and help there.

going to add here that this must carry 0% of the original storyline events

meaning whoever edits the actual thing is gonna need to figure out how to change those

completely and utterly must not resemble original FFT.

Well, I'm learning some of it, though it's confusing as hell. It may take quite a while without some help ... I'm amazed Lasting_Dawn is able to do what he does! One of the limitations I'm seeing already is the order of maps ... you'll still start out in the Magic City and follow the original path, which does bum me out.

Edit: I'm in the chat room right now. Dunno how we'd include multiple people in private conversations though.

I'm having a hell of a time trying to figure out event editing ... and I'm sure I'm at a major disadvantage for not knowing programming. In fact, all I've done it look at the code and figure out what's what. I'm not sure how well I'm doing right now.

I pray LastingDawn will explain this to some point of understanding ... Zozma & Cheetah have helped quite a bit, but it's still at the point where I'm staring at it and not knowing what exactly I should be doing. I'd hate to put this on hold ... well, at least the editing. I could at least get all the story down, ENTD events, classes, etc. done though. Of course anything after "Story" needs the story in order to be done. xD
