Oracle. I never really find a use for them in my party. Easily replaced by a Mediator IMO.

Summoner
In vanilla it sucks

I never really bothered to use Mediator or Oracle in Vanilla, except when I wanted to manipulate Brave or Faith.  I considered both to be mostly useless.  I suspect quite a bit that this has changed in patches such as v1.3.  They just need an extra kick.  I voted Oracle, but when considering rebalanced patches like v1.3, I think I would have to say Archer.  I don't find their Charge abilities appealing.

Summoners suck? summoner was a job i used no matter what the situation i always used em.

I never used it and I always did fine...
Btw, opinions are opinions, for example I used a lot the mediator

I would say oracle, except ive shortened the CT and increased the accuracy for their spells

i NEVER use mediator unless im trying to recruit a monster so thats my least favorite

Summoners in Vanilla had the terrible weakness of very slow spells.  I can see someone ditching them for that.  The only two strong points I can think of for Mediator however are... guns and recruiting monsters for poaching.  Or maybe three things.  Mimic Daravon could put enemies to sleep.  I didn't find any of their uses all that useful in Vanilla.

I suppose the reason why I voted Oracle over Mediator is Beowulf.

not if you do what i do and give your summoners short charge

I've never been a fan of Time Mages. That doesn't mean I think they're useless, nor does it mean I never used them--I just like them the least.

Mediator gets my vote. I prefer Oracle after trying out an Oracle SSCC... You will never see something as fun as the Loss Strat. Also, never even touched Mediator whenever I played vanilla.

I like em all, concept wise.

Voted chemist since they're the most broken and without an easy fix.

thief.

crap for damage, there's very little to bother stealing.  outclassed in every manner possible.  Good only for training into being another job class and/or getting secret hunt + move +2.

I chose Mediator. Their stats are outclassed by Chemists, and their skills are outclassed by Oracles.

Archer.

Crappy skillset, crappy damage, crappy HP. Only reason to use Archer is to get into Thief, grab Move+2 and get out.

knight, because every other job has some use, but a knight really only has use for grinding (breaking the enemies stats than just running circles around it) or for and for stealing the genji armour, plus they have crappy movement and equips.

1.3 really makes them more useful

Knights do kinda fail at their job in vanilla. They seem to be intended to be tanks, there to take hits effectively on the front line.

I blame how they did items, myself. When the thief hat has 20 less health than a crystal helm, heavy armor wearers are at a large disadvantage already.

chemist. item use should probably be an innate skill, like in FFTA.

I dislike Oracles.. Their spells seem to have a low chance to hit, and even if they hit, it doesn't do much good except for spells like Petrify, Sleep, and Faith/Innocent (depending on what you're using them for)

But I love Mediators..Especially since I'm making them into a sort of 'Blue Mage' type I suppose. They still have Invitation...But that's about it for their skills. The rest are Monster skills, with CT and Mp costs.. I'll probably have to increase the skills Mp costs though..It's about...8 Mp for a Gigaflare? :/

waaat

summoner is extremely imba broken in vanilla

that is why their skills are so nerfed in 1.3

QuoteI never used it and I always did fine...

so? you don't have to use math skill to "do fine" in vanilla FFT

that doesn't mean math skill isn't amazing

Thief is boring, annoying and f*****...
They are weak and frail. Their only positive trait is a bit of speed.
Their skills are unreliable. (even steal heart, the best, has the gender requirement on top of random chance). Ok, steal weapon is more game breaking, but try to rely on that...

They make you reset the console most of times when enemies steal you, and you have to "linger" battles because of the crappy chances of stealing.
Stealing Elmdor for example, is a chore, not a good use of a unit's skill.

I would say from this list Archer, but Calculator is the worst imo. (and the worst special is Holy Swordsman!)

my thoughts exactly
a cool thing in 1.3 would be to allow archers to equip 2 crossbows if two-swords is on, opening the way to a potential 4x hit

I voted Mediator, though conceptually I like them lots.  They just have such BAD stats, and in Vanilla their skills sucked, and even in 1.3 their only use is to learn Talk Skill so another job can use the abilities properly.  Sad, sad Mediators.

Personally, I never saw much use for archers, though I became a believer once I discovered how to use the longbows properly, and 1.3 has made me trust in the Crossbow as well.  I just wish they had interesting skills.

All this Oracle hate makes me sad.  Ilean the Two-Hand Oracle with Draw Out was one of my final units in my Vanilla file.  500+ damage with a Stick.  :D

Archer is unnecessarily weak.  Charge might be a decent sub in Chapter 1, but it loses value in the original since:

1. Short Charge doesn't affect charge.
2. The damage boosts (of +WP) decrease relative to one's WP as the game progresses.
3. Bows lack power.
4. Archers lack HP.
5. Gunner Knights > Archery Knights, while Ninja/Thief > Archer/Thief (so archer's two main subs are overshadowed by chapter 4, if not earlier).

I dislike Squire. Especially on a generic.

Umm, only generics have Squire, but I do agree they could be better.

True, heh. They could be improved. *gets ideas for patch*

In my personal patch I changed them into classic style Warriors with a bunch of nice physical attacks and moved most of their original skills to other appropriate jobs.

That sounds cool. I have an interesting idea for mine, I'm gonna see if I can get it working.

Chemist for me.

Decent for some of the first chapter, MAYBE the whole first chapter.
Too many things too much better.

Archers for me.
Even their 'charge+' is good, they still lack flexibility or versatility when it comes to skills.

2nd: Knights' skills
3rd: Oracle
