New Project Ideas / Pokemon by way of FFT?
April 24, 2016, 05:27:53 pm
Hey just had a really loose idea here, but what if you had a pokemon/mtg style game using the fft format?  The objective could be to eliminate the enemy trainer / protect your own.  All "pokemon" would be given an innate status of "stop/immortal/invisible" that could only be relieved by the trainer.  The trainer would not be able to inflict damage on enemies, only cast spells that would mirror sending out a pokemon.  The trainer would have a limited mana (say 3), and it would cost 1 to send out pokemon, and absorb 1 when bringing back.  They could also casts buffs maybe.  It wouldn't necessarily have to use monsters from pokemon, it could use existing fft monsters.  Haven't played pokemon much, just seems like a cool idea.

Alright, I have some ideas for a few skill ideas. They were thought of for rounding out the squire job, but could potentially work for any job.

Delay/Postpone Death:  This skill would be a cheap (perhaps free) and instant way to reset the death counter. Essentially, I believe this could be accomplished by raising unit with 1hp, then inflicting 1hp in damage.  I oppose giving too many jobs Raise abilities and I think this strikes a balance.  Range 3.

Impasse/Entangle/Wrestle:  This skill inflicts Don't Move on both the target and the unit. Range 1.

Squire:  This skill could actually do what squires were meant for!  This skill would re-equip another unit.  Range 1.

Crit Quick:  This would be an instant, high percentage quick at a moderate MP cost that could only target critical-state allies.

Theres also seems to be a two syllable pattern.  Not that youd have to follow it.  Rhaegar feels fitting if it werent already used in such a high profile way in another Game. Rugar?

The Lounge / pSX 1.13 issue with sound

I'm using pSX 1.13 and wondering how you toggle mute on and off?

Hey I just wanted to see what everyone else thought about this... Throughout the course of FFT, I don't believe I ever hear Delita say anything about the stones or Lucavi, and I don't think that Ramza ever tells him anything about it.  Did he not know or was he trying to conceal the truth?  I got the impression that he just believed that the Templar were collecting the stones as a symbol of the Church's strength and renew people's faith.

Orlan never says anything either, but Orlandu eludes to the stones powers... But he never mentions the Lucavi either I don't think.

PSX FFT Hacking / Re: ASM Requests
November 06, 2014, 10:39:43 pm
Alright, I have a couple of ideas for ASM hacks that could improve gameplay:

1.) Change archer's Charge Skill to be able to target units and go off if enemy stays within weapon range.
2.) Change ranged weapon attacks to factor distance from target into its accuracy%

Oscar: "Well you do the best with what you have... I have lemons, I make lemonade."
Michael: "That's a very positive outlook."
Oscar: "Yeah, but I hate the lemonade business.  It's the grind... You have to grind so many fuckin lemons!"

PSX FFT Hacking / Charge skill with targeting?
October 06, 2014, 07:40:11 pm
Does anyone know if there's a way to make the archer's charge skill be able to track units as long as the unit stays within range of the weapon?

The Lounge / The fate of Prince Orinas?
December 12, 2013, 03:33:33 pm
Is it ever mentioned at the end of the game what happens to Prince Orinas? Or Queen Ruvelia for that matter?  I mean, technically, the Prince is still suppose to have first claim to the throne.  Of course, that doesn't matter if there is no one left to back his claim.  I would suppose when Queen Ovelia and King Delita took the throne, Orinas would be to much of a liability to just allow him to stick around; they would either have to kill him or lock him up in Bethla for treason.  Maybe whoever was left who supported Orinas helped him flee Ivalice?

Thanks for all the work FDC, I think this will really help with some balancing issues in my patch.

Yeah, I may be wrong, but from the in-game description it seems like this was their original intent.  I mean even this version is a huge improvement on counter, and having hamedo negate the attack just makes it ridiculously OP.

I just wanted to congratulate you guys on the beginning of an awesome game!  I loved it!

I'll admit that I've never played Devil May Cry or Metal Gear Solid so there were probably a few inside jokes I didn't get but the characters' dialogue and abilities seemed true to their origins.  And having such a diverse skill sets yet keeping them all relevant and balanced must have been tricky, but you really pulled it off!

The only one I had trouble playing with was Snake, but I think the issue for me was he has really weak initial skills.  I wound up using him (and partially Ramza) to explore the other new jobs types.  But looking at his other abilities, I can tell that if you grind and get to some of his better skills he can become a really strong support unit.

The difficulty level was great too!  Not impossibly hard like 1.3 or something, but I thought it was up from the original game (especially Ganandorf, thank God for Climhazzard).  The new enemies are cool and different.

This is nothing new, since it could act pretty broken in vanilla, but I thought parts of the AI were a lil wonky.  This was especially noticeable with the werewolves: they would sit back and buff with brave up, attack up, haste, until they could OHK my entire team, but they never do.  I would just hide in the corner of the map while I took them out 1-by-1 at long range.  And Agrias seemed less than helpful a lot of the time too.  These are just observations, I'm not sure how much control you have over AI priorities.

One thing I noticed was that with all the 5 in the Ganandorf fight, there was still room for one more unit... was this intentional?

Anyways, just thought you guys would like some feedback!  Great job and I look forward to Chapter 2!

PSX FFT Hacking / Hamedo Fix Request

I was wondering if it was possible to hack 'hamedo' so the defending unit still strikes the attacking unit first, but doesn't negate their attack?

Spam / Blackgaurd on Steam
November 07, 2013, 01:04:23 am
Hey this is a new indie game I saw got released on Steam, called Blackgaurds http://store.steampowered.com/app/249650/.  From the look of it, the gamestyle seems similar to FFT... Just wondering if anyone here had tried it out yet.  Is it any good?

Edit: I guess this is just a beta release.

Now I'm not sure if this is actually a bug, or maybe I did something wrong while patching the mod, but the Lamia monsters aren't patching over the panthers correctly, leaving some grainy picture in the background.  I've noticed this with a few of the other graphics, but this is the most noticable.

 Oh that's right, I went back and looked at the game script again.  From the looks of things Ramza only gave one of the stones to Alma (He says "this stone", singular, and the color looks like Scorpio).  I mean, she could've already been holding Taurus I guess.

It still seems odd though, that Vormav would've taken Virgo from Izlude during the fight (slaughter) at Riovanes and not taken Pisces.  Not any stranger than Malak not finding Virgo or Pisces I suppose, except Malak might not have know what he was looking for.  Malak may have found Taurus and Scorpio right off the bat and assumed that's all there was.  Vormav definitely knew Izlude had Pisces.

I guess it wasn't an inconsistency, but not exactly airtight either...
19
I had a question on what everybody thought about this... In the story, when Vormav meets Barinten in Riovanes castle, Barinten calls out Izlude and Malak. Then Barinten tells Vormav that he has taken Taurus and Scorpio.  Then Vormav calls Izlude a fool and slaps him.

Now this must be a typo, correct?  For one thing, Barinten can't be holding Taurus and Scorpio: Ramza got Taurus from Mustadio and Scorpio from killing Quecklain, and to my knowledge, never lost them to the Temple Knights.  Barinten could have been bluffing to get a rise from Vormav, but Vormav obviously felt that it was Izlude's fault.  Vormav may have thought this were the case, if he knew Ramza had those stones and assumed Izlude had taken them back in Orbonne Monastery.  But Wiegraf had been possessed and returned to Vormav, and knew everything that had happened in Orbonne, so Vormav shouldn't have been confused about that.

My guess was that Barinten was meant to say he had Virgo.  This would make sense, because Izlude was carrying Pisces and Virgo from Orbonne when he was ambushed by Malak.  He only had Pisces when he died, so it would hold that Malak had taken Virgo.  But then how did Vormav have Virgo when he found Alma?  Barinten had already escaped to the roof where he was killed by Elmdor.  I guess he had left the stone somewhere in the castle and Vormav had found it.

One last question: Then what stone is Malak holding when the Barinten kills him?  After they fight Elmdor, Rafa revives him with it.  But which one?

I agree the voice acting was terrible.  Ramza has really high-pitched wussy voice.

But I like the cell-shading and the graphic style, which matches the original concept art.  If they ever did a full-blown remake of the game, I think it would be cool if they did not just the cutscenes, but all the battles all in that style too.
