Okay this is an easy question, so I changed the skill Dash, and instead of them tackling the enemy I want them to swing the weapon, I checked the Weapon Strike box but I assume that isn't what its for.

Sorry but this is my first time editing skills, what are Vertical Tolerance, and the X and Y values? I noticed some X and Y in the formula boxes so I'm assuming they are the same ones right?

you cant make dash swing a weapon, the skill has to be doing a physical attack animation, like punching. if that is so, and then you check the weapon strike box, then they will swing their equipped weapon.

thats all (at least for right now thats it)

X and Y pertain to formulas. read what the attack formula you're editing and see what x and y do

like i think in sword skills, one of the values raises/lowers damage

Yeah. Unfortunately for right now we still don't know where the data for each skill's animation is set. So for right now the best thing to do is consolidate some of the monsters' physical attack skills into one and then use one of the freed up ones to create your new skill.

Some of the skills you can consolidate are:
Choco Attack
Bite
Tenticle (both)
Shake Off

The monsters would still use the correct animation if you set them all to use Choco Attack and then just renamed it Attack. Also, I recommend setting the effect for this new monster 'Attack' to Triple Attack. It's a great multi-purpose effect for physical attacks.

I made Dash have effect 173, Shake Out, and the first formula but its still tackling.

So are you telling me Dash no matter what will always tackle? If so that's fine.

Excellent choice. there are a number of skills you can use for various purposes. If you need a skill that works like the Archer's Charge/Aim ability you can cannibalize some of Cloud's limit breaks. (HINT: use the limit breaks that were completely changed from FF7 since they are lame.)

i removed choco attack and made it a Cross Knight skill "Venom Blade"

in fact i removed most primary monster attack skills that gives me room to make like 5 or 6 new sword skills

then i took "Bite" and just named it Attack and changed its effect to FFFF.
and gave that to all the monsters.

if a human uses it, it looks like a regular punch, or whatever weapon is equipped, if a monster uses it it looks like their physcal attack seen when they counter attack.

the sound is attached the the effect assigned,

if the character throws a punch, or swings a sword it will sound as it should. not like bite

That's like the smartest thing ever to do if you need to free up some skill slots.

And effect files.
That's really good to know, Zozma. Interesting too. This means that FFFF automatically assigns some effect files depending on the skill's animation.

the only effect in FFFF is that it will be whatever weapon is equipped, but you also need to check off the box that displays weapon if this animation is used. otherwise itll be a punch, even if the character has a sword... well some of the skills are funny tho, like choco meteor and choco ball, if you leave them alone it looks like they strike with a standard dagger if used by a human.
