I just recently got a psp and apparently its bad to upgrade your psp to 4.01 official or whatever.  I'm not very good at the whole hacking thing with firmware and the battery.  I got FFTPatcher and kinda got it but i can't patch it cause i don't know where the ISO is.  Just curious do you need custom firmware or is there a way you don't have to have it to patch or whatever.  If i cant do anything without custom firmware can someone make a save or whatever for me.  I don't really have any money but maybe i have something that we could barter if i have anything.  If someone could explain how to patch in good detail without custom firmware thatd be awesome too.  Uh if anyone posts to this thanks.

Custom Firmware is absolutely required in order to do any modifications to FFT: WOTL whatsoever.  When you get custom firmware it is very easy to get the iso off of your copy of the disc.  Check my posts in here: http://ffhacktics.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=595 to get a bit more info on custom firmware.  If you have any questions, I would be happy to help.

Is there a good tutorial for custom firmware.  You know, A Custom Firmware Guide for Total Idiots?

Cause I would enjoy getting to hack my WOTL and have CW on there and other whatnot.

or do forum rules prevent you from telling me how on the fourms?

Yeah you need CFW to mount your UMD and extract the ISO.

I've hard modded 7 PSP Batteries, I can help you if you need it. I didn't ruin any of them. (I used to run a business at school :D )

What do you need to know, how to get it, where to get it, how to install it?
I refuse to play Final Fantasy Tactics again until I am able to do my FF6 patch! And, FFT 1.3 doesn't technically count as FFT: so there!

I assume you already don't have CFW.

Settings -> System Settings -> System Information

What does it say under System Software

It could maybe, but probably not to the point where you'd never be able to use the program again.

Then you need a pandora battery to downgrade it.

Slim batteries are a bitch to open.

Actually it isn't that hard GClance, it just takes patience to open the damn thing and then it's pretty easy from there.

Just don't use anything metal if your afraid of ruining it.
