Journey of the Five Ch.1 / Re: Chapter 2 Progress Log
February 21, 2017, 08:36:57 pm
Chapters 3 and 4 are already planned and have been for some time. The characters who join up are already decided on and set in stone. Lots of cameos have also been discussed and thrown in, and those are pretty well decided on, but you never know.

That's not a bug. If you have 99 of everything the shop has to sell, they can't sell you anything. The inventory doesn't work in stacks, it works in hard set item lists, so once you get 99 of one item, you can no longer purchase more of that item, since you've reached the limit. That's why you can't use 'Buy' anymore.

The real bug is that you can still use Fitting Room. The game keeps track of on-hand values, which includes what you have equipped. If you have five Daggers equipped, you can only purchase up to 94. If you go over 94 (which should only be possible by cheating) major shop glitches occur.

Silly me.

I'm a bit late on this (been really busy with work and trying to get sleep when I can), but I do have to agree on Phantasy Star IV's awesomeness. I have adored that game for forever, and Phantasy Star was actually my first RPG (and the only game I ever owned on my Master System, not counting the no-cart game). I have so much love for that series that I pretended to enjoy Phantasy Star Online for around 400 hours of gameplay. My nostalgia goggles are thick for that series, but nobody should ever deny PSIV's awesomeness.

I'm not a huge fan of the RPG Maker engine, for a myriad of reasons, but I can dig this. Thanks for posting this here. I need to give it a more thorough look when I'm not so inundated.

I rewrote pretty much everything in Chapter 1, so that should be very well fixed (if it wasn't fixed before my rewrite).

It's been a bit slow going due to work schedules, but things should open up more soon. I can at least say that there's still daily progress, it's just a huge volume of to do list that's being tackled to keep the QA up, and fixes abound. The Jot5 team is a team of perfectionists, which is great for the end product (and I am in love with the product as it stands already), but it does mean slow and steady wins the race. None of us are proud of the release duration, but I know all of us will be very proud of the finished product. There's been a lot of blood, sweat, tears, heated debates, do's, redo's, fixes, changes, and additions since the original chapter 1 release, and an enormous amount of work put into not just the re-release, but chapter 2 as well.

As I've said before, though, once chapter 2 is released, chapters 3 and 4 should come much more quickly, since a fair bit of the work being done now is to make those releases fall neatly in line with the project as a whole.

If you're really looking for an update, I can just say: spoilers.

Help! / Re: Getting started

I actually like the way Elric went at it; he started with writing events, which is by far the scariest proposition to any newcomer. He jumped right in with what was (at the time) the most daunting and tedious work anyone could do with FFT with the tools provided, and that made everything else seem simple afterward.

Learning ASM is a good idea, and a valuable asset, but isn't required. Dedication and ambition are the best things to have.

War of the Lions Hacking / Re: FFT WotL Now on Android

Yeah, no, the Android version has no modding tools available other than a save editor which you can't use unless your device is rooted. And it's a save editor, which means what you can actually edit isn't all that impressive. Unless you have a degree in computer science and a strong history in ARM, don't even fucking bother looking into modding Android WotL.

For that matter, don't even look into modding WotL, period. Stick to PlayStation, for the love of God. Everyone wants to mod the worst, least accessible, least friendly, most painful version of the game. It passes so far beyond infuriating that I don't even understand it anymore..

If you want to mod actual original PlayStation, we want you here. We need you here. If you want to mod PSP/Android/iOS, we neither want nor need you here unless you have a profound knowledge of the hardware and can work within their heinous limitations. Around here, PlayStation is God, and all other releases are steaming piles of dung that nobody will touch or clean up. WotL = no knowledge, no experience, no intelligence, just using tools from a bygone era nobody will bother to update, and few will use.

Note also: I don't say this as an explicit slight against WotL, just that nobody with any intelligence, modicum of common sense, or ambition sticks to WotL, with the exception of BlueVII's stubbornness. If you can't operate on an assembly level, please don't work on WotL. If you can operate on an assembly level, please work on PlayStation, but I'll still be happy if you work on WotL.

Help! / Re: pSX Emulator Sound Issues
January 24, 2017, 08:23:20 pm
Honestly, there's not a single emulator that handles FFT's audio properly, not even with plugins. You're not wrong, though, and you aren't alone. It's just broken.

All bias aside, this is one of the coolest things I've seen done in FFT. Synth shop remains mind-blowing and a hugely awesome mod, but this allows for genuinely awesome superbosses well beyond the original scope of the game, easily into NIS territory. Extreme difficulty possibilities aside, this is both incredibly interesting and really freaking cool. The Trickster mark from FFXII can easily be a thing, here, and that's just thinking small.

Just got home from work, and I needed to say that as far as color is concerned, you're spot-on. If I have any criticism at all, it's that Ramza's back is really busy; that amount of detail in so small of a space doesn't lend itself very well in practice. Scale back the detail a bit, and it improves tenfold, worthy of submission. Honestly brilliant for a first-timer.

Final Fantasy Tactics / Re: Good PCSXR-PGXP Config?
January 17, 2017, 08:52:24 pm
PGXP has absolutely no effect on FFT, unfortunately. Even Menafen's PGXP doesn't do anything. Thankfully, the jitter is only noticeable during slow camera rotations, so not much loss, there.

As for any other settings... Set the internal resolution multiplier in the config file as high as you can handle, preferably at least up to your monitor's native resolution, if not higher. I hate texture filters where they weren't intended to be used, so set xBRZ however you like.

*sigh*

Listen, the guy was necrobumping not just this topic, but many topics, from users who haven't even logged in in years. We're not saints. When people do stupid things, we don't always have the most diplomatic approach in dealing with them. In this topic's case, the user happened to still be, you know, alive and paying attention to alerts from FFH, so it wasn't (just) pissing into the wind to spray on everyone behind. Aiolon responded, was diplomatic, swept the mess very cleanly under the rug, and you've just been crapping on the floor since. Yes, an already irritated Elric is just getting more upset with you, and you're now just trolling at this point. Also, I see that Aiolon also just responded pointing out the same. (Sorry, Aiolon.)

Also, Elric didn't threaten you with a ban. Stop being dramatic. Chill out, kick back, share some good times, remember that we're here to play good games, and ideally share information.

Also, we have three admins because we offer each other a sanity check, make confirmations, and all that jazz. Nobody's out to abuse power, and none of us will sit still and let another act unjustly. But none of us will tolerate a troll. So, can we go back to that part where Aiolon made this all good? Because that was nice.

Help! / Re: [Sprite] Oh how the mighty have fallen.

At least you can still see color! A friend of mine and my great-uncle are 100% monochromatic colorblind. The former actually managed to guess (much as you do, I imagine) how full color images should appear. No mountain high enough.

Quick edit: Have you given any thought to EnChroma? I've no idea how accurate it is, but I've seen some joyfully tearful results from its usage.

This may sound like a really silly response to have, but thank you for posting the links as URLs rather than embedding them. I can actually load this page without it killing my laptop, it's wonderful!

Spriting / Re: Help with Custom Portraits
December 22, 2016, 12:38:05 am
There's also a really simple rule to FFT convention that's a good idea to adhere to - headroom. If you look at any portrait in FFT that isn't of a child, the top of the hair/hat/etc. is always cut off, and the chin falls around the bottom fourth of the portrait, give or take a couple pixels. That is far and away the thing that stands out most to me, in any portrait.

Well, that's further than I made it into FFTA, so I guess that makes us even.
