Help! / Re: PSXfin bios image? Help please.
« on: March 20, 2017, 04:19:22 AM »
You can try PCSXR, which both plays much nicer with FFT than ePSXe, and can run without a BIOS. Just be aware that using it without a BIOS makes some RNG routines not operate correctly, so you won't be getting the most accurate results, but it's honestly unnoticeable in casual play.

Long day at work and in dire need of rest, so I apologize for not addressing your questions, but I really wanted to say that I'm genuinely glad you're enjoying yourself and making progress.

Just to clarify, you can kind of add jobs to the wheel, but with the caveat that the job points and learned ability slots will be shared with another job in the wheel. You can effectively (nearly) double the size of the job wheel this way, but balancing would be really difficult since you'd be buying abilities for two jobs simultaneously.

But yeah, Mime is still a bit of a roadblock no matter what version you use, sadly.

Neither of us - nor anyone with any experience in game modding here - touch WotL at all.

I've said before, if you want to do anything truly interesting with WotL, I hope you have a degree and an awful lot of masochism and determination, because nothing will be done with that game otherwise. But I don't say it to discourage anyone, because I would freaking LOVE for someone to finally make that piece of crap worthwhile, since zero talent gravitates toward it, and every new member refuses to touch anything else. It's like watching a team of experts determine beyond a shadow of a doubt that orange juice will make you live longer, feel happier, be more productive, and cause you to stumble upon mountains of cash as soon as you step outside, but milk will kill you. And watching the entirety of the world drink nothing but milk while orange juice sales reach a death knell's low.

It's WotL.

There are no orgASM patches for WotL. That's why it doesn't work. Abandon all hope of ASM for WotL.

Create a new text file, leave it blank, rename it to Final Fantasy Tactics<or whatever your .bin is named>.cue, and your problem is solved. It only wants a .cue sheet, doesn't care what the contents are.

Chapters 3 and 4 are already planned and have been for some time. The characters who join up are already decided on and set in stone. Lots of cameos have also been discussed and thrown in, and those are pretty well decided on, but you never know.

Help! / Re: FFT (PSX version) shop glitch when 99 of everything?
« on: February 20, 2017, 01:19:14 PM »
That's not a bug. If you have 99 of everything the shop has to sell, they can't sell you anything. The inventory doesn't work in stacks, it works in hard set item lists, so once you get 99 of one item, you can no longer purchase more of that item, since you've reached the limit. That's why you can't use 'Buy' anymore.

The real bug is that you can still use Fitting Room. The game keeps track of on-hand values, which includes what you have equipped. If you have five Daggers equipped, you can only purchase up to 94. If you go over 94 (which should only be possible by cheating) major shop glitches occur.

Non-FFT Modding / Re: Phantasy Star...Twenty Years Past (Russian Game)
« on: February 20, 2017, 04:14:42 AM »
I'm a bit late on this (been really busy with work and trying to get sleep when I can), but I do have to agree on Phantasy Star IV's awesomeness. I have adored that game for forever, and Phantasy Star was actually my first RPG (and the only game I ever owned on my Master System, not counting the no-cart game). I have so much love for that series that I pretended to enjoy Phantasy Star Online for around 400 hours of gameplay. My nostalgia goggles are thick for that series, but nobody should ever deny PSIV's awesomeness.

I'm not a huge fan of the RPG Maker engine, for a myriad of reasons, but I can dig this. Thanks for posting this here. I need to give it a more thorough look when I'm not so inundated.

I rewrote pretty much everything in Chapter 1, so that should be very well fixed (if it wasn't fixed before my rewrite).

It's been a bit slow going due to work schedules, but things should open up more soon. I can at least say that there's still daily progress, it's just a huge volume of to do list that's being tackled to keep the QA up, and fixes abound. The Jot5 team is a team of perfectionists, which is great for the end product (and I am in love with the product as it stands already), but it does mean slow and steady wins the race. None of us are proud of the release duration, but I know all of us will be very proud of the finished product. There's been a lot of blood, sweat, tears, heated debates, do's, redo's, fixes, changes, and additions since the original chapter 1 release, and an enormous amount of work put into not just the re-release, but chapter 2 as well.

As I've said before, though, once chapter 2 is released, chapters 3 and 4 should come much more quickly, since a fair bit of the work being done now is to make those releases fall neatly in line with the project as a whole.

If you're really looking for an update, I can just say: spoilers.

Help! / Re: Getting started

I actually like the way Elric went at it; he started with writing events, which is by far the scariest proposition to any newcomer. He jumped right in with what was (at the time) the most daunting and tedious work anyone could do with FFT with the tools provided, and that made everything else seem simple afterward.

Learning ASM is a good idea, and a valuable asset, but isn't required. Dedication and ambition are the best things to have.

War of the Lions Hacking / Re: FFT WotL Now on Android
« on: February 11, 2017, 04:52:20 AM »
Yeah, no, the Android version has no modding tools available other than a save editor which you can't use unless your device is rooted. And it's a save editor, which means what you can actually edit isn't all that impressive. Unless you have a degree in computer science and a strong history in ARM, don't even fucking bother looking into modding Android WotL.

For that matter, don't even look into modding WotL, period. Stick to PlayStation, for the love of God. Everyone wants to mod the worst, least accessible, least friendly, most painful version of the game. It passes so far beyond infuriating that I don't even understand it anymore..

Help! / Re: Getting started
« on: February 10, 2017, 05:26:52 AM »
If you want to mod actual original PlayStation, we want you here. We need you here. If you want to mod PSP/Android/iOS, we neither want nor need you here unless you have a profound knowledge of the hardware and can work within their heinous limitations. Around here, PlayStation is God, and all other releases are steaming piles of dung that nobody will touch or clean up. WotL = no knowledge, no experience, no intelligence, just using tools from a bygone era nobody will bother to update, and few will use.

Note also: I don't say this as an explicit slight against WotL, just that nobody with any intelligence, modicum of common sense, or ambition sticks to WotL, with the exception of BlueVII's stubbornness. If you can't operate on an assembly level, please don't work on WotL. If you can operate on an assembly level, please work on PlayStation, but I'll still be happy if you work on WotL.

Help! / Re: pSX Emulator Sound Issues

Honestly, there's not a single emulator that handles FFT's audio properly, not even with plugins. You're not wrong, though, and you aren't alone. It's just broken.
