I'm pretty sure the Lucavi are actually political conspirators from the distant past who used the Zodiac Stones and the bodily forms of the demons/espers in order to attain a sort of pseudo immortality such that they might continue to work their desires in the world, making the whole demon thing an actual extension of the political intrigue the rest of the game is built on, and a natural result of of a world setting in which magic is a real thing?

Consider: the plot of Vagrant Story as being somewhat like this with all the fat trimmed away

His son was evil though so Orlandu just sort of deals with life and doesn't forgive him but has no feelings of revenge either.

You would have to structure it under the Ivalician enviros though, which means Lucavi are probably on the scene pulling strings, one fun idea to go with here would be to make Vormav a hundred of years old, and be the initial protagonist of the initial chapters of the game as a youth, and detail his slow corruption through the bloodshed of war and eventual deal with the devil, before switching to Balbanes who can be a cadet just makin a name for himself, following chronologically after Vormav's story and involving a lot of campy hogwash adventures that ape/rip on the adventurer action hero archetypes built up over the 1900s like Jonas Venture senior in Venture Bros

I guess I can help in terms of plot progression or with a portion of the writing if someone actually does 50 years war ever

you need to fix that turban, it looks like some sort of a deformed beret with a feather attached

it's doing that thing where it gestalts it's depth of field backwards and the hat looks concave, basically cause you can't see enough of the lines from the wrapping

if you look at the secret of mana series turban guys or the sprites on turbans in DQV you can see how the extra lines of the wrapping are used to indicate the rounded shape more clearly, and it sits a little bigger on their heads too


Final Fantasy Blue Mages are kinda just copies of the DQV protagonist anyway

edit: looking at it the feather is only a pixel wide from some angles, fluffing it up and doing a little unrealistic feather exaggeration isn't gonna hurt in a final fantasy game

otherwise, you could also take the feather out and go for a simpler sort of detail

I think blade grasp should probably work on any kind of weapon attack

Ball: Ability targets requiring line of sight, only hits the first thing in it's pathway, but becomes an area of effect on detonation

Star: Targets in four or eight directions from the center, proceeding in straight lines but not targeting the spaces between the lines. (Actually I think you can already do cross shaped AoE without an ASM hack, but it's somewhat limited)

Circle: An actual rounded circle instead of a diamond

Status: Only characters with a certain status are effected by the ability.

Height Restricted: only lower panels or only higher panels are targeted

Tether: The ability targets every panel directly in between the caster and the targeted ally/enemy

Random-Line-Shoot: attack a random or fixed number of times in straight lines in random directions (like with a gun for example)

Ring/Partial Ring : attack in a ring or crescent shape (have a blind-spot behind the character for example)

Backwards: Target a panel in front of you, but hit the panel directly behind your facing instead.

Alternate Linear: Attack in a line in front and behind or to both sides instead of straight forward or all four directions.

Bomb: Can target with unlimited range, but only in a radius centered on unit with specific status ailment (Poison bomb, Oil bomb, Stone Splinters, etc.)

By the way, if this interests you you should check out the Super Famicom game, "Live-a-Live" which has almost nothing but esoteric targeting patterns.

edit: if you could find a way to make Lucavi be able to use your own units as projectiles and throw them at your other guys, that would be the coolest damn thing

to be clear,

You cannot have duplicates of special characters anywhere in the game during events, because they each have specific unit ID and if you have agrias in your formation and also have event instructions (walk this way, stop, raise your arm, have a textbox pop out of your head, etc.) it will just snatch her and she will do the things she's being programmed to animate doing, and it will fuck up all the slots or something, I can say I'm not very knowledgeable about programming, but I know what you have to do is rewrite every single story scene and battle dialogue blurb and etc so that it doesn't point to the exact character ID you're using and make them do wonky shit

if you learn to use the easyvent editor you should be able to see how the instructions are pushing the little actors around using specific addresses to identify them

since most patches eventually reach a phase where you have to run through and clean up all the events to insert characters, it's a problem that will eventually solve itself through your process, but it is definitely a headache if you're testing story battle difficulty balance with your added characters or trying to figure out how things work in the first place

I'm fairly certain that all you need to do is rewrite all the pointers so that every situation that has the character used in an event scene or battle or guest slot or join after battle flag points to the correct version and not the unit you changed, then you can reinsert your modified character however you like.

Unless I'm gravely mistaken, all these things are possible through FFTPatcher and the other various event editing tools.


You DO need to change the instructions directly however, you cannot just have people swapping places and not end up fudging things right up with the leftover instructions that are now for the wrong character.

I'm pretty sure there's a version of Celia and Lede that aren't used at all though, you should be able to find out which by experimenting yourself or looking around in the sprite editing tutorials, and then you could cleanly insert those wherever without fear of overlap glitches

If it's a gun it should actually be less accurate at point blank and reach peak accuracy at around 4 or 5 tiles before dropping off again

St Ajora is technically a man that turns into an immortal hermaphroditic demon like a thousand years before Ramza's time somehow.

He apparently needed certain body to reenter the world and thus became female I guess

It's not like you ever travel back in time to meet him though so he could have been a lady originally. Another idea is that the esper whose body he apparently jacked was female so he just defaulted that way when he became a trans-dimensional monster

The nice thing about a mod patch is you can work up your own backstory

Idea: Badass Mustadio

I always thought it was strange that Mustadio has only 3 shitty skills even though he and his dad are basically the only people in Ivalice with the engineering skills to restore some sort of trans-dimensional warp-generator without knowing what it even is, yet he doesn't have any, other, how should we say, Tools? Like there's an entire working robot but not one laser or drill schematic or anything else that's fun.


I had a dream, and this dream I saw Mustadio with a chainsaw.


Realistically this would mainly be ripping off the Gadgets and their general theme and effects from Edgar's Tool command in FF6. So I guess what this would require someone to do is:

-Gather all the sprites from Edgar's Tool set for reference (should be easy)
-Modify them to 2 FFT "diagonally facing up and down versions" for spritesheet (note: I suck at spritesheet)
-Custom ability animations. I'm thinking this is something pretty medium-hard. You'd have to get Mustadio to do the crossbow aiming or spinfist or spear stab animations while floating the Tool sprite over him and animating it properly
-Really actually ASMing these kinds of custom animations into the game might require like, flags(?) and stuff(?)
But I'm 90% sure it's possible. I've gotten characters to throw out summon balls while doing like, wave punch animations, so like, break that, and fix it awesome if you could get my meaning. Meaning being that I currently suck too much to do so myself.

-We can all agree we want Mustadio to wear a Jason mask and impale Queklain with a howling death machine that produces exaggerated gouts of blood though right? (especially Agrias)

And this is one thing, but I had a pocket full of other FF6 themed ideas.

The next of which being: If I had to choose between getting Worker 8 or killing him to build Ride-able Magitek Armor, I would kill that metal fucker in a heartbeat

-I'm thinking draconian and bipedal, shaped like a Tyrannosaurus the way they're supposed to be. Something like the badass versions with energy cannons that you fight in Kefka's Tower.
-I don't care if it looks nothing like Worker 8 and is the exact size of a Chocobo, I just want it to shoot Tek Missiles and Bolt Beams and Bio Blasts and stomp aroung while going *CLANG CLANG* like a robot should
-Oh man could you imagine if -steam- came out of it? I practically pitch a tent thinking about this shit you guys, I'm hardly even fucking joking.

Idea number 3 is: Why aren't there Moogles in this game D:< Fuck dragons I wanna go to Narshe!

-This is just an event edit of the colliery with Mog and GoGo in the game and taking up interesting event slots instead of Beowulf and Reis who are broken characters anyway.

-Mog can use his special Dance command by customizing Elemental and it's action menu programming and adding custom effects and animations. This by all means seems so worth doing I don't know why it isn't some sort of standard add-on to any patch. I am almost but not quite entirely gay for moogles. I can't even control it, that little red ball, those wings, that face at some mysterious cuteness level between a bear and a cat!

-GoGo can rip off his friends instead of being an actual Mime. I'm not saying give him a whole bunch of custom command set options, but give him one set called "Mimic" that utilizes a few Iconic abilities like Quadra Slice, Pummel, Aura Bolt, Mug, A Few of the Tools, Bum Rush, maybe even an "out of universe" blue magic or lore and he could teach these skills to the player jobs if you wanted him to. It might not be entirely gameplay balanced that way but it would be fun >.>

-By all Means, Strago would probably be a lot easier to put in

-Relm would be impossible

-Shadow would be really fun to do, to make a special interceptor running onto the screen animation, and then you could add ninja magic scrolls to the ninja's throw list as a bonus.

-Actually I'm sure I could balance all that into a vanilla FFT or a custom patch from a gameplay mechanics sort of perspective or otherwise in FFPatcher, it's just the quirky guts of the thing you know, how does one ever find the time without a helping hand

-If you replace the colliery with Narshe you can change the boss at the end to be vs Triton the ice esper from the start of FF6, and then you could even make him a custom summon

-Make colliery look sort of like narshe by altering it's existing structure/skin? This probably isn't entirely necessary

This is so totally worth doing, you guys should totally get into this idea immediately or something

I like deconstructing things and reconstructing different things from the pieces

broken stuff can be pretty useful that way

like you can create some pretty cool abilities by "breaking" them (counter-tackle via modification of the dash skill for example...)

I only bought monster hunter and fft because they seemed like supportable ideas

I've never played anything on my psp

I don't know why

it just makes me really sad inside to look at the thing

hey thats handy

I think after I set up everything else I might use that and add an extra support ability to all the monsters

they're pretty damn strong already but I loves me some variety
