FFT+ / FFT+ Crashing in pSX, Cannot purchase skills

Im playing FFT+ using pSX 1.13 and I get an immediate crash every time I try to spend JP. All other emulators ive tried (ePSXe and PSCX) have massive graphical glitches that ruin the game. What emulator should I be using? The archived forum for FFT+ has a crash report about this issue but no posts talk about how to fix it.
