I finally got my hands on Breath of Fire III and am starting that up for the first time. It seems like a pretty fun game so far, but I haven't gotten very far.

I actually found it the worst of the series >_>

The dragon/gene system is the best, but the general gameplay and necessity for levels I found too obtuse.

Also, the austrailian dolphin kicks ass.

Just beat CV ReBirth. Wish I could read the intro/ending or that there was even a translation available. Meh.

Megaman 9 doesn't fuck around! That game is hard as fuck! So...

I'll stick to FFIV:tAY for now. Really good story so far; much deeper than I would have expected for a WiiWare game and just what I would expect in a FFIV sequel. Very Happy! ^_^

Well FFX got stomped -- beat Seymour III (on the mountain) without whipping out summons or anything like that.  I thought restricting my characters would make the game harder, but really all it did was make the overdrive types get unlocked really early, and the lack of elemental magic was quickly put to rest once I got Steal/Use unlocked for Kimahri.

So... moving onto FF12 now.  Never beaten it before -- always got like halfway through and then put it down once I had so much LP everyone was becoming the same.

Solution - don't spend LP. Do a job challenge where you develop each character as if they had jobs. FF12 was brilliant, but I prefer 10's story (I went from 12 to 10), I tried a second play but got bored quick because of my PS3 backlog.

I just got Supersonic Acrobatic Rocket-Powered Battle-Cars, PS3's most underrated exclusive, for a fiver.

nah, not this time around.

By function I'd prefer to have a tank, meleer, caster, and healer.  Buuuuut, 3-man party means I have to do a lot of swapping to do so, I can't swap anyone that's being targeted by anything, and having only one healer is a huge liability.  So, what I've settled on is a just a 3 man crew of super badasses (Vaan is tank/melee guy, Penelo is mainly offensive caster, Ashe is primary healer -- all know moderate status spells) and team B (Basch, Fran, Baltheir) are staying about level 10 and have a quickening under their belt for a swap-in combo if needed -- also grabbing a bunch of Item augments if Team A is wiped out so they can get them back up to speed.
Just another rebel plotting rebellion.

I'm sort of disappointed that I didn't play through XII. The characters seem interesting enough, but I got wrapped up in something else as soon as I started playing it and I put it down. Are there specific job types for these characters, or is the way they learn skills similar to X?

Oh, and btw, I've played through Infinite Undiscovery. Such a great idea for a storyline, but it got dragged down by embarassing dialogue and an extremely annoying main character. *sighs*

They learn skills a little bit like X - you move around a big grid, learning skills adjacent to each other, however, you can develop them any way you want. Until you reached the VERY late stages of X the characters pretty much developed in set jobs.

Somewhat similar to X.  More freedom, and yet the game is more controlling over when stuff becomes available.  Unless you play the International Version of course.  Then you wind up having to pick a job for each character and their license grid is shaped accordingly.  It looks really interesting (and potentially more fun), but it looks like if you don't plan ahead, you might could accidentally screw yourself over when it comes to fully meeting your characters' potentials.  Certain jobs require certain espers to get some of their abilities.

I like the idea of being able to pick classes for each of your characters, but maybe FFT has spoiled me ^_^ thought the thought of not being able to fully develop each characters bugs me. I don't like using guides to decide what I should do with my characters.

FFT/5 have the best class systems, I think.

Unique character classes are fine, but it shouldn't come at any significant sacrifice (no one misses anything out of the vanilla squire skillset except maybe accumulate).
