You can keep the black hair, but for easiness's sake just make sure you can use some of the colors from the armor as extra shades for the hair. Oh and although his hairstyle doesn't match the sprite perfectly, it looks pretty decent. Well done. Just use more shades for the hair on the right side of his head and you'll be set.

I'm considering using the Teioh sprite's hair instead of the black hair.

Would this be an improvement?

Hmm.. Hair looks better. (used the legendary magnifier)
One thing, if the hair is brown, the armor should be brown, too. :)
imo, stick with the black color(hair), it gives the sprite some uniqueness to it.

I definitely agree about the black hair: not too many sprites use it. Though this new hair shape looks much nicer. But again, there's still that yellow on his face--replace it and you may gain an extra shade for hair.

I tried using one of the darker shades from the armor in the hair.

I'm not really sure where the yellow on his face to replace is, I can't seem to see it.

The yellow is right below and above the mustache. The hair looks much better though: great job.

My portrait woes still insist on annoying me.

When I intentionally move the portrait 1 pixel to the right, it looks correct in game.

When I align it correctly, it leaves a black line at the top of the portrait in game.

are you sure you aligned it correctly?. . .  remember last time it was not covering the entire original portrait from behind. . .

but it should not be a problem as long as it aligns in game then it is fine. . . that why it is a tweaked sprite because everything was touched up. . .

When it looks likes that in ShiShi, it looks fine in game, when it looks fine in ShiShi, it has the black line on the top. Its frustrating, but I suppose if it looks fine in game...

I had that problem to but it works fine with some must be with the base then. . . I'm glad I aint the only one who experienced that and was willing to tell all. . .

Very great work on your completed sprite. . . a submission should now be done if you have no further tweaks. . .

Congrats. . .

Yeah, remember this in inserting portraits:

on the coordinate (80,487), put a pixel on that spot.
That will mark that you should put the portrait on that spot.

Also, in GG, if you want move the portrait wherever you want to, Enable the transparency.

Oo..very nice portrait there Aqua. Very nice ^^
Man, I should start learn making custom portraits too. Seeing all the amazing custom portraits, makes me eager to make one myself, but I'm no good. Haha.
