Title: WotL Slowdown Removal Patch
Post by: endrift on February 22, 2012, 02:21:59 pm
Having almost completed my research (http://ffhacktics.com/smf/index.php?topic=8449.0), I have put together two patches for WotL, for unstretching the screen and speeding up the game. Although I did not personally test on the PSN version or any regions other than US, I've gotten reports that it works on the PSN release as well as the EU versions. A separate JP version is included, as well. As these are only preliminary patches, you might expect some bugs. However, I've found that in general, they work pretty well. The patching utility will require a PSP with custom firmware, and additional instructions are included. However, you won't need ISOs or any messy patching utilities on your computer. Everything is done when the game is run on the PSP!

An early version of the patching utility as well as the patches are attached. Please post feedback and bugs you find! You probably will not need the debug version of the utility (the only noticeable difference to a user is that it dumps a log), so download the regular version unless I ask you for a log.

Ok, I've fixed the cut-off text problem. Turns out there was an 0x0E where there should have been an 0xE0. Not sure how that happened, but I'll upload that fix after more feedback comes in.

E] I went over the rest of that patch and it LOOKS intact...so I'm not sure why that would be crashing. However, I'm pretty sure I know why exiting the game is crashing so I'll fix that soon.

Brilliant Work Arch, I would love to help out with the project, especially the testing. Alas though, I have a European version, but when it come to you looking at that though, I will be more than happy to help. Keep up the good work :D

I've uploaded a fixed version of the unstretch patch, and a beta version of LivePatch 0.1.1, which hopefully fixes all those nasty crashing issues st4r was having. The beta doesn't include directions or the like, so if you need those still, I've left 0.1 up.

Oddly enough while cleaning up for a party yesterday I found my PSP and hooked it up to the charger.  I'll try and test the patches later when I get home.

I have WoTL, I'll put this to the test soon...

Edit: As soon as I find my damn ISO for it... don't want to have to rip from my UMD AGAIN...

Edit #2: Nevermind, just finished actually reading the first post. Won't need an ISO it seems.

Edit #3: Does LivePatch require a specific Custom Firmware? Because I'm getting no effect using it.

I've tested LivePatch on 5.00 M33 and 6.60 Pro-B 10, so presumably it works on anything in between too. Are you sure it's enabled and the patches are in the right place? The patches (*.live files) should go in ms0:/livepatch/fftpsp

Test System:  PSP-2000 CFW 5.50 Prometheus-4
Patching Version: LivePatch Beta

Test 1
Patches Enabled: fast.live, unstretch.live
Notes: All other plugins disabled
Result:  screen is un-stretched, full-speed skills, no sound de-sync, saving is functional, game doesn't crash on pressing "Home" but game crashes on quit attempt.

Test 2
Patches Enabled: fast.live
Notes: All other plugins disabled
Results: stretched, full-speed skills, no sound de-sync, saving is functional, game doesn't crash on pressing "Home" but game crashes on quit attempt.

Test 3
Patches Enabled: unstretch.live
Notes: All other plugins disabled
Results: un-stretched, slow skill animations, sound de-sync, saving is functional, game doesn't crash on pressing "Home" but game crashes on quit attempt.

Assessment: Looks like something is still causing the game to freeze and crash but it is from the short test I did fairly stable aside from trying to quit to the XMB.  BTW Thanks for the hard work, ingenious patching method utilized it is nice to not have to rip and patch a new ISO each time I want to change patches.  The gang here should look into this as perhaps a viable method of patching when creating patches; it makes patch testing much faster.  I wonder if it could be implemented into fftpatcher and the other tools on the site.

I'm probably just missing something here, but I put the slowdown patch into the livepatch folder, in the fftpsp folder, in the root of my memory stick. All is fine there.

However, when I put the livepatch.prx into my seplugins folder and went to enable it, it wasn't listed. Am I doing something wrong? I have a PSP1000 with CFW 5.50 Prometheus 4.
Title: Re: Patch testing for WotL!

just manually enable it. Go to GAME.txt in the seplugin folder, or make it if its not made.
in the folder add this text:
ms0:/SEPLUGINS/livepatch.prx 1

Still getting slowdown, however now the .prx is visible in the menu. Is there something else I have to do, perhaps try a different version of Livepatch?
Title: Re: Patch testing for WotL!
Post by: endrift on February 28, 2012, 01:30:47 am
Well, I can't reproduce the crashes at all, so I'm only operating on guesswork, which isn't getting me very far. If I'm going to flatten out the crash when closing the game, I'm going to need someone who will let me tinker with the program remotely, either through relayed instructions (which will be very difficult!) or a remote shell of some sort (which would require giving me remote access for a little while, something that is understandably undesirable). Someone who has knowledge of PSPLink is better, but either way I'll need someone who is very responsive so I can do this in a fast way.

I can continue to upload versions that work by guesswork, but I can't really guarantee that that'll fix any related crashes.

E] Scratch that, for now. I think I managed to reproduce it on 5.00 M33, so I'm gonna plug away at that.
Title: Re: Patch testing for WotL!
Post by: Mega_Tyrant on February 28, 2012, 03:01:36 am
I'm fairly certain (well an educated guess anyway) that the reason may/is incompatibility with other installed and/or active plugins.  During my first few attempts (before test 1) the game crashed during launch when the SE splash screen came up, it was only after I disabled all my plugins that the game would boot at all to yield the test results.  Wish I could help but I don't know a thing about PSPLink or setting up remote access, plus work and school pretty much means I'm home, awake, and free maybe 2 hours a day.  There's a pretty good chance our time schedules don't match up.  Although tomorrow Ill format a memory stick and try to confirm my hunch.

Good news! Maybe. I think I found the bug, and Beta 4 (which hopefully fixes it for real this time) is now attached. It fixes the crash I experienced on 5.00 M33, which was a problem with timings relating to threads. Fun. Anyway, that's fixed now and hopefully that'll fix your crashes.

Hello and thanks for the patch.
I tested both and they worked, though some crash still happens.
I used the livepatch 4, but the crash happened when I went into sleep mode(using home-->exit didnt crash though)
Using 6.60 LME-1.6 btw

hmm, still crashing on a clean memory card.  I think I'll need to change my firmware to get better compatibility.

I've got 5.50 Prome-4. I've got it showing up in the Plugin folder in the recovery menu, as on.  I've got the patch files where they should be, but I'm seeing no visible effect. I'm not getting any crashes from using Home or anything, so I don't think I'm getting ANYTHING to work.
Title: Re: Patch testing for WotL!
Post by: endrift on February 29, 2012, 01:29:40 am
I cleaned up the code a lot while investigating the crashes that I'm still not getting and in the process did three things;
1) Replaced the synchronization methods with something cleaner, in the hopes that that fixed crashes (it won't)
2) Disabled some debugging code and found a problem with my directory listing code (that are actually Sony bugs, not mine), so I fixed that
3) Found out that the way it was compiled was leading to my code stomping on top of another module. Namely, the module that makes the volume buttons, the home button (and the display for when the home button is pressed), and a few other things work. Now it's compiled in a way that will hopefully prevent that from happening again.

As such, I've uploaded a beta 5. This will hopefully eliminate those crashes once and for all. At least, it'll probably get rid of those crashes st4r was talking about. No idea if it'll fix the other ones that I still haven't been able to reproduce.

And Alaris, I'm sorry but I don't know why it's not working for you at all :( I can send you a debug version and some instructions for figuring out how far it's getting before it fails.

Looks like Beta 5 is the version to use if you've got 5.50 Prometheus-4.  Barring any plugin conflicts the patch should be fully functional.  Again, thanks for the hard work.

Beta 5 is now LivePatch 0.1.2 (which is the same thing except I've packaged the source and readme back into the zip). It should be functionally equivalent, though. As this is a stable release, I've removed the old betas.

Alaris, I'll give you a quick breakdown of how to install it using the new 0.1.2

1) Extract the "dist" folder from "LivePatch 0.1.2.zip" file to the root of your memorystick.
2) Extract the "fftpsp" folder from the "wotl-patches.zip" file to your "dist" folder
3) Add the following to your game.txt

ms0:/dist/livepatch.prx 1

Whoops, there wasn't supposed to be a dist folder, that was a packaging error. The "fftpsp" folder should be in ms0:/livepatch/

I've reuploaded the zip with that fixed.

Post by: Mega_Tyrant on March 01, 2012, 01:19:41 pm
I figured as much, it was named dist instead of livepatch so I left it as is and changed the plugin pathing in game.txt to match.

I'm new to CFW, and PSP hacking in general so sorry in advance. I hacked my PSP recently and have not tried applying any plugins. I'm using PRO-B9.

I did the steps above, and have had no luck. I just changed "dist" to "src" since thats what its called now :). I had to create my own "seplugins" folder, and inside that I made the game.txt file. The only thing in the game.txt file is:

ms0:/src/livepatch.prx 1

Am I missing anything crucial? Once again sorry in advance for the lack of experience. My friend and I want to try the multiplayer in WoTL and this patch would be a godsend.
Title: Re: Patch testing for WotL!

The patches go in the ms0:/livepatch folder (e.g. fftpsp goes there, so you get ms0:/livepatch/fftpsp/fast.live) and wherever you put the PRX is what you put in GAME.TXT (e.g. if you put the prx in ms0:/livepatch/livepatch.prx, you put in seplugins/GAME.TXT the line "ms0:/livepatch/livepatch.prx 1")

Hopefully that's clear, but I guess it can get a bit confusing. While the PRX doesn't have to be in any specific location (GAME.TXT just has to know where it is), the patches HAVE to go in ms0:/livepatch and the folder inside of ms0:/livepatch HAS to be fftpsp.

Follow this to the T and still having no luck.

Using 6.60 PRO-B9.

When I go to Recovery Mode --> Advanced --> It says Game Pluding ENABLED, every plugin is. Is there something I should have turned on to get my CFW to read this patch? I wonder whats wrong  :( When I go to Config there is an option saying "use version.txt in /seplugins" and says Enabled. What is this? Bleh, I'll have to read up more on CFW it seems.

Sorry for the annoying posts, I've been messing with this for awhile. I can run other applications fine, so I know my CFW is installed correctly.

The versions.txt file is unrelated. I'm not entirely sure what it's for.

The only thing I can think of is that there's a problem with filenames being all caps or all lower on the filesystem, and that confusing the PSP. I'll test to see if this is a problem, and if it is I'll see what I can do to fix it.

E] Filename case seems to be irrelevant. What model PSP do you have?

E2] If someone can get PSPLink/pspsh/usbhostfs working on their PSP ( http://forums.pspslimhacks.com/threads/tutorial-how-to-setup-psplink-debug-psp-apps.5200/ ) I can send a debug version of LivePatch that will print stuff to the pspsh terminal, and you can tell me what prints out. That will help me immensely with figuring out what's gone wrong.

I got it to work.

I updated to PRO-B10 and everything worked instantly. I guess B9 isn't compatible?

Anyways I just played a battle and wow is the difference big. Downloaded an end game file off GameFAQs to test it out and it's amazing. Animations go off instantly, soooooooooooo excited to start a new file.

I'll give multiplayer a shot and report any bugs that I come across. Thanks again!

There's really nothing I can say but great job Archaemic!

It will work with an off-the-shelf UMD, however, you will need a softmodded PSP to use the patch. Fortunately, softmodding (installing "Custom Firmware") is generally easy and you can find guides to do this on Google.

Do you know what System Software it has? It's under System Settings > System Information. It if has 6.20, you're golden. I'm pretty sure if it's newer than 6.20, you're probably fine too. I've been a bit out of the loop, so there are better places to find this information, like wololo.net or qj.net.

I've uploaded a new version of the patches that fixes the stretching in the Outfitters and maybe a few other places, so if you use the unstretch patch, I recommend redownloading the patches. The fast patch is unaffected.

I tried out the slowdown fix and the unstretch patches on the PSN version and they both seem to work just fine.  :)

However, with the unstretch patch, it's so damn hard to see anything anymore >_<. I noticed that the new resolution doesn't utilize as much of the screen as it potentially could. There is still space to increase the resolution without stretching everything out. Would it be possible to do this?

I'm actually surprised there isn't as much hype.  This is HUGE!  People have bitched and complained about this since it was first released, and as far as I know ur probably the first/only person to fix that damn slow down.
CONGRATULATIONS!!!
Now, I'm not super excited atm because most the work on these forums are for the psx version, HOPEFULLY there is gonna be more work with the PSP version of FFT.
More items, more jobs, extra events, possibly replacing of video files... it's starting to make me all giddy.

Yes, this is huge news and I, too, am surprised this is only 3 pages.

As for PSP mods, I have a fairly huge update for 1.3 coming out in a week or two. I'll link it here when it's finished if that's ok.

I've imported all of the WOTL only items, among many many other things.

Is there any way you could slow the game down a bit in the next version of the patch? It's actually a bit too fast now.

Thanks for the work. I never thought I'd see the day that the PSP version would be faster than the PS1 version.

If you really want this to be a more popular patch, tell all your friends about this thread and FFH. :P

Archaemic and the rest of us work hard to make FFT an enjoyable game for years to come.

Hello everyone! I'm new here, I registered mainly for two reasons: first, I want to express my gratitude to Archaemic for working on this awesome patch.

Unfortunately I bought (again) FFT on my new Vita and THEN I found about this. For a moment I tought "Hey, maybe on the VITA with better hardware there wouldn't be slowdowns!"
I was wrong. 10Euros trashed I guess.
I found about your patch and I'm trying to make it work on my PSP on CFW, but for some reason I really can't get it. I followed all the instructions on the tutorial video that's on youtube, but the patch never applies.

Here's what I did:

download patch
download livepatch 1.2 (and also 1.3)

extract livepatch 1.2 on the root of the PSP, renamed the folder: " livepatch "
extract the patch content inside " livepatch " folder
make a txt file called GAME.TXT inside the SEPLUGIN folder
add the correct string inside the GAME.TXT with a "1" after it (should be ms0:/livepatch/livepatch.(i forgot the extension right now) 1

I tried it on a USA and EURO version, but it doesn't work for me.

MY PSP CFW is a softmodded one: (639 PRO-B9)

The PSP is a 3004 one.

It's the same speed as the PSP version. It just seems like it's super fast at first because you're used to the slowdowns. Give it about an hour of playtime and it will feel like normal again.

Is there any chance that this new method of patching could eventually apply a ppf on the fly? Might make consistently updated patches easier to work with.

Have guys enabled the plugins in the Recovery Menu? That might be the problem, even if they look enabled, some plugins requires you to disable them and enable again the first time you install them.

... now, if only this was usable with Spectral Souls x3

This seems...unlikely. It would require me to basically stick a shim in between the block driver and the ISOFS driver, which is...well, I think I know how I can do that, but more to the point is that I'm not sure how I'd actually get the patches into memory. I basically cannot allocate memory while patcher is running, due to space restrictions in the kernel, so I can't just load all the patches and then apply them when that part of the block device is read. However, I won't say it's impossible. My real goal with LivePatch is to enable people to patch the individual files on the filesystem, instead of patching the filesystem itself. That's what I'm working on right now.

I fixed my problem.

What I was doing was naming game.txt as "game.txt" and couldn't get the plugins to show up. So I named the text file "game" and then it showed up in the recovery menu.

Thank you for your hard work, Archaemic.

But seems that the patches are not working with my Japanese copy.

6.20 pro-b10
Livepatch 0.1.3
All other plugins disabled
Test 1:
Patches Enabled: fast.live  unstretch.live
Result: crash when the Final Fantasy Tactics logo shows up

Test 2:
Patches Enabled: unstretch.live
Result: same as Test 1

Test 3:
Patches Enabled: fast.live
Result: game doesn't crash but the slowdown problem is still there

Is it possible to make the patches work with the Japanese version of the game?

Hello, i try to get this patch working with no luck... it seems that the reason is that the patch works with the original UMD and not with a ISO.

I only have the iso, and cant buy the umd where i live.

Is there a way to apply the patch on a ISO version?

Thank you.
Title: Re: Patch testing for WotL!
Post by: endrift on March 22, 2012, 06:00:11 pm
It should work fine with an ISO. Can you try the debug version and give me the log that gets dumped in ms0:/livepatch/log.txt? If no log gets created, then the module isn't being loaded properly. I know some people accidentally disabled plugins in the Advanced settings section. Have you tried looking there?
Title: Re: Patch testing for WotL!
Post by: Vivi on March 22, 2012, 07:55:36 pm
I tried the debug version... no luck.

Checked livepatch folder and dont get a log.txt file too.

Checked the advanced settings in my recovery menu and this is how is setted:

XMB plugins.............. Activated
Game plugins............ Activated
POPS plugins............ Activated

The steps i follow to try to use the plugins is as follows:

1.- created "livepatch" folder in root of MS
2.- extracted the debug version in livepatch folder of MS
3.- the livepatch.prx file was originally in the MS after i uncompressed the rar in ms0:/livepatch/livepatch/livepatch.prx , so i moved the file to ms0:/livepatch/livepatch.prx
4.- extracted the fftpsp folder in ms0:/livepatch/
5.- copy my iso file in ms0:/ISO/ folder, the iso filename is FFTWL.iso
6.- run the game, and see that is strechted and with slowdowns
7.- quit game, checked livepatch folder and there is no log.txt created

Post by: endrift on March 22, 2012, 07:57:21 pm
And you're sure it's enabled in GAME.TXT? Strange...It really looks like it's not getting loaded, if you're not getting a log. It opens the log file right as it starts.
Title: Re: Patch testing for WotL!
Post by: Vivi on March 22, 2012, 08:03:51 pm
in "plugins" section in recovery menu appears the following:

livepatch.prx [GAME] .................... Enabled

So i assume its enabled, and i came to the conclussion that it only works with the original UMD and not with a ISO, and its only my speculation because its the first time i use a livepatch plugin, but for FFT is totally worth the try.

It's possible it's a problem with your ISO loader. I haven't tested it against very many--it wasn't a priority for me.

so I got everything working, the speed patch is incredible, I never realized how the game was supposed to play until now, but about the stretching,
honestly, i dislike taking the original aspect ratio, and forcing it to stretch to 16:9, but is their anyway to keep the original aspect ratio (4:3 i guess)
and make it so it a least stretches the the full height of the screen, i rather have the screen just a little stretch as opposed to having a box-in-a-box

I've been using the latest speed patch on 6.6 PRO B firmware and it works great.

I was wondering though, earlier it was stated that this patch works on the UMD of the version of the game, but why?  I thought the whole reason that Square put the slowdown in (on purpose) was because the PSP could not load the spell graphics or sound off of the UMD fast enough for it to work properly and had to reduce the FPS so it would.  If the fast patch makes the game work like it should even on the UMD version, why would they have done this?
Title: Re: Patch testing for WotL!
Post by: Vivi on March 27, 2012, 12:49:48 am
Well, i wasnt want give up to test the patch, so, after trying 1000 differents iso's and cso's, i tried my last option: i converted one iso to a signed eboot, like the psn version of final fantasy tactics.

After doing it, the patch worked and run smoothly.

I just want to inform here that i conclude that the patch DOESNT WORK on isos and cso files of the game, only on original UMD and signed eboots.

I know that it is not a priority for you right now, but it would be nice in the future you can get the patch work on isos.

great work, the game now runs nice!!! thank you.

just chiming in to say a big THANK YOU!!

i remember brainstorming with others about this back when the game came out and we really didnt get anywhere (obviously) - was recently chatting on a forum about this game and a user was asking if they should play this or the PSX version. I told them the only drawback (aside from the questionable script) were the slowdown and aspect ratio - a helpful poster linked me back here to find these awesome patches.

running WotL from ISO on prome4. no other plugins. both works perfectly, game exits just fine. thinkin i may drop the stretch fix since it does shrink the used pixel space a bit... but its awesome to have the choice.

thanks again! squinting through the dialog, this may now be the definitive version of FFT!

converted my UMD of WOTL (US) to ISO and worked on my psp (ISO was 399MB using UMDgen)
applied the speed/stretch plugin and this worked just fine
but when I patched my ISO with 1.3.1.0 or KO it did not load.
patches from here:
http://www.insanelyderpy.com/downloads/patches/WOTL1310us.ppf
http://ffhacktics.com/smf/index.php?action=dlattach;topic=8658.0;attach=10345

I used PPF-O-Matic30 that I got from ID:
http://www.insanelyderpy.com/downloads/tools/PPF-O-Matic30.exe

So my only conclusion thus far is my UMD ripping process... did the same thing with Monster Hunter Portable 3rd to apply the English patch (you need it to be an "untouched/shrinked" ISO) so I am wondering if it was when I applied the patch.

Ripped UMD 3 times so far and did the patch about 7 or 8 times now.

EDIT: So the file size was not 399 that was just Windows geustimating the size when I right click and properties.
when I view the files by details, the Ripped ISO is 409,054 KB

ok... makes sense now. feel dumb, but at least i got closure...

so... now to trouble shoot 1.3.1.0 ... it is not an issue with me applying the proper patch but I am going to start from scratch and make sure i DL all the right patches again...
Title: Re: Patch testing for WotL!
Post by: IparryU on April 04, 2012, 01:03:08 am
Ok, so i got my PSX version to work... some programs dont like scratched CDs, but below is what I did:
1. Ripped my scratched cd with PsOneISOMakerPRO_v01 (if you click something else it looks like it freezes but do what you gotta do and it will finish)
2. tested ISO with ePSXe.v1.6.0
3. patched ISO with 1.3.0.6 using PPF-O-Matic3.0
4. Tested again with ePSXe.v1.6.0
5. copied to PSP (1000 CFW 6.60 ME 1.6) and forgot to enable game categories in my plugins... minor barrier
6. saw what I saw on the PSX emulator and am now happy

Now I want to get my WOTL working... still cant get it working from my last post. I ripped the ISO straight from my PSP to my PC and also tried ripping to my memsick in the PSP... file ends up at 406MB and when i patch it the game just gets a black screen then turns off... no issue before the patch... so it must be when I am going from UMD to ISO...

I would like to play the WOTL version as there is apparently a few more extra stuffs in that...

Alright, not sure what i'm doing wrong here... (Trying this out)

-I have an .ISO of the game on my PSP (Not the disc copy)

-I made the "SEPLUGIN" folder on my Hacked PSP 3000 (With Custom Firmware)
-I made the "GAME.TXT" (A Text Document)
-Typed in "ms0:/SEPLUGINS/livepatch.prx 1" into the "GAME.TXT" document
-Made a folder named "livepatch"
-Put the "livepatch.prx" in there.
-put the "fftpsp" folder in there.

Next steps, Anyone? [Would Really Appreciate it]
Tried following the guide... but i'm obviously doing something wrong/ not understanding.

Thank you :3

What do I do next?

You're not even following the readme in the package....

Quote....create a folder called livepatch at the
root of your memory stick and put the file livepatch.prx inside this folder.

Next, you must ensure there is a folder in the root of the memory stick called
seplugins. If it does not exist, create it.

Open seplugins/GAME.TXT (you must create the file if it doesn't exist already)
and add a line:

   ms0:/livepatch/livepatch.prx 1

Then the patches go in that livepatch folder. You're placing things somewhat arbitrarily and expecting them to work, rather than actually following the readme that comes with the package...

I'm not arbitrarily placing things, i'm probably not reading the guide correctly, as that is what i'm going off of.

-I fixed my "GAME.txt" I now have "ms0:/livepatch/livepatch.prx 1"
-Placed the "fftpsp" folder in the "livepatch" folder (that contains the patches)

Works like a charm. My problem was within the "GAME.txt" I had everything else placed properly.

Thank you very much xist! =3 Im FINALLY able to enjoy a really great RPG game on my psp, Kudos to you man ;D

How to install:

-First off, have some form of custom firmware (LCFW pro update 6.60 is a good start, what I'm using)
-Download the packages mentioned on the first page.
-Go to to the root menu of your PSP (This would be the "COMPUTER>(Whatever Removable disc the PSP is counted for) (I.e. Computer>Removable Disk: (I))
-Make two folders, one named "SEPLUGINS" and one named "livepatch"
-Take the package that has the "livepatch.prx" on it, and stick it in the "livepatch" folder
-Now in the "SEPLUGINS" folder, make a ".txt" document named "GAME" and in it, write the line "ms0:/livepatch/livepatch.prx 1" (Copy and paste from here)
-Put the acquired "fftpsp" folder in the "livepatch" folder
-Try it out, (It should work, as it does for me)

I've got everything setup and have the patches installed, Livepatch active in my plugins, and everything but it's not working for me.

This is the first time I've done anything with the firmware on my PSP. Is there suppose to be any sort of notification on screen when I boot the game up to let me know if the patch is active? Not sure what else I can do to get it working.

EDIT: Ok I got it working. For some reason the unstretch patch isn't working with the slowness one for me. When I deleted the strech one, the slowness patch started working.

I think you're the same person from the GameFAQs board that posted in my topic about this too. I'll post my answer here as well, not sure which site you check more.

Go to Settings->System Settings->System Information. The System Software Version is what your OFW is. OFW is official firmware, which is what Sony's updated the PSP with. CFW is custom firmware, which requires a software modification to do for the PSP. Odds are you have the official firmware, which is why the patch isn't working. You'd need to install custom firmware to do that. I'm new here so not sure what the site's rules are in regards to the modification of the system, but if you check my thread on GameFAQs that you posted in, someone there helped me out a lot with it and I was able to get the system modded with the info they provided.

My custom firmware is 5.00 M33-6, just in case someone wants to help me on here. Livepatch does work with ISOs right?

Phew! Finally, my account got activated although I've been trying for so long in getting myself registered ... anyways. I just wanna say:

1) It works wonderfully; 6.60 ME-1.6 & 6.60 PRO-B10, PSP 2000 & 3000 respectively
2) No slowdown or lag and it works for both Melee and Rendezvous (Multiplayer)

Been having a blast, so thank you for making the patch! Although it has been a very long time since I last played this game did anyone noticed if it's normal for the save screen (on the World Map) to be laggy or suffered from framerate issue? It saves fine though so no problem just curious.

EDIT: Sorry, forgot to mention that I am using an ISO file to play this.

I have 6.60 ME-1.8 on my PSP 2000 and I cannot get it to work. I have a livepatch folder with the livepatch.prx file and fftpsp folder in it. Also have the seplugins folder with the game.txt reading: ms0:/livepatch.livepatch.prx 1

Can you please tell me how you did it and/or if you did anything differently? Are we supposed to activate something on the Recovery Menu or VSH Menu for it to work?

EDIT: I just noticed; you had your code like this:

ms0:/livepatch.livepatch.prx 1

This is wrong. It should be like this:

ms0:/livepatch/livepatch.prx 1 replace the . with /

Hello Dchen40, here's what I did to get the patch to work:

1) Download LivePatch 0.1.3.zip and wotl-patches.zip*
2) Extract both zips w/ WinZip or WinRAR.

You will see the following files and folders:

wotl-patches.zip
- fftpsp <-- You need this!
- fftpsp-jp <-- Ignore this!

LivePatch 0.1.3.zip
- livepatch <-- Pay attention to this folder ONLY

3) Connect your PSP to your PC/laptop.
4) Access your PSP's memory card.

Now in this section of the memory card we call it the root! You should see folders such as

ISO
MP_ROOT
MUSIC
PICTURE
VIDEO

IF you do not have the folder called seplugins, then please CREATE A NEW FOLDER and name it seplugins (no uppercase, no nothing to make it easier)

ISO
MP_ROOT
MUSIC
PICTURE
seplugins <-- Your newly created folder!
VIDEO

5) Now copy the livepatch folder and paste the whole folder to the root of the stick, you wlll get:

ISO
livepatch <-- See that?
MP_ROOT
MUSIC
PICTURE
seplugins
VIDEO

6) Next copy the fftpsp folder AND open up the livepatch folder and now paste the folder in there, so basically you will get something like this:

ISO
livepatch
'
|--fftpsp
|--livepatch.prx
MP_ROOT
MUSIC
PICTURE
seplugins
VIDEO

6) Okay? Inside the fftpsp folder there arw two files:

- fast.live.
- unstretch.live

You can remove unstretch.live if you do not want to play the game in 4:3 format, it still works wonder, I had it removed.

So now that you have the files in order, go inside of your seplugin folder and create a new .TXT file okay name it:

game.txt

Inside that game.txt copy and paste this string of code:

ms0:/livepatch/livepatch.prx 1

Save the text file.

'1' means the patch/plugin IS activated! You're all ready. Exit the USB Mode, reset your PSP (shutdown or something) and have fun.

*There is no need to download the "debug" version.

Did you get the patch to work at all? If you didn't then it's really impossible, there must be something you're doing wrong?!

EDIT: The only thing that crossed my mind is, could it be you're on temporary CFW like 6.60 PRO-B10 or even LME (Lite Minimum Edition), these CFW when shutdown or when the battery dies (drained completely) the CFW will reset to OFW (original firmware) making the patch unusable.

Nope never got the patch to work. I literally just changed my CFW to that two days ago so I doubt that could be the problem. I just don't know what to do. I intentionally left the unstretch patch in there just so I would know if it worked or not.

You know what? I'm not going to give up and want you to enjoy this masterpiece, so I went out of the way and do some screenshot to further assist you!

And you were right, there is INDEED 6.60 ME-1.8 I'm on 1.6 I guess it has been far too long since I last look up for an update. I am not certain if you're doing it wrong or 1.8 is preventing this patch from working properly, I'm confused myself but I am going to update to 1.8 anyway later. So... here are the visuals:

EDIT: I've updated my CFW to 6.60 ME-1.8; and the patch still works fine! I am certain that you're doing something wrong.

I downloaded someone else's game.txt file because mine had mystical problems with it. Both txts were exactly the same, but mine just didn't work. My livepatch folder containing fftpsp and livepatch.prx was inside another livepatch folder so I deleted the outer one. Don't know if it was only one of these problems or both, but who cares now! :)

Lol, I was right I know SOMETHING must be off :P

This is the original code:

ms0:/livepatch/livepatch.prx 1

ISO
livepatch <-- folder
'
|--fftpsp <-- folder
|--livepatch.prx
MP_ROOT
MUSIC
PICTURE
seplugins
VIDEO

"My livepatch folder containing fftpsp and livepatch.prx was inside another livepatch folder"

I assumed this is how your folder structure looked like?:

ISO
livepatch <-- folder
'
'--livepatch <-- folder
    |--fftpsp
    |--livepatch.prx
MP_ROOT
MUSIC
PICTURE
seplugins
VIDEO

This basically means you should add another syntax to the code:

ms0:/livepatch/livepatch/livepatch.prx

Both your code and your files arrangement were wrong, hehe, but I'm glad every thing is working out for you now! Have fun! ^.^

Made an account just to post this but...

The patch works like a dream, however I seem to run into crashes while using this along with Remotejoylite.

On its own with just the PSP its perfect, is there any tips for making it work properly with RMJ?

I have not tested this in conjunction with Remotejoy. I could try doing so, but the problem is probably something I'd have to fix, if it's even a bug in my code and not just some weird interaction.

Oh, alrighty then.

If you felt up to looking into it I'd personally appreciate it but I'm unsure as to whether or not there would be that great of a demand for it to make the project worth doing.

Just thought I'd offer up the issue in case anyone else might've run into it at any point, and possibly collaborate on any possible workarounds or ideas.

As for what was happening the game would either crash as its loading (Prior to the SquareEnix logo) or during the beginning of the game (The intro conversation inside the church), and it doesnt happen every single time, I've played past that point with my PSP and I'm going to try playing with RMJ on the rest of the game and see if any other issues arise.

But each time its crashed the screen will either get stuck (or go blank) and you can still hear the sound, the home button also still works.

Not sure if any of that helps :?

Regardless, I cant express just how awesome this patch is, I've played the PSX version of FFT to death and never played WOTL because of the PSP lag, and now I can fully enjoy it with no lag just as if this was still on the PSX, THANK YOU!!!!!

I'm having problems getting the patches to work on my PSP Slim. Here's all the details of my setup:

My memory stick's root consists of three folders: PICTURE, PS3, and PSP, seen here: http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a335/chicobo329/ms0root.png

My PSP folder when opened looks like this: http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a335/chicobo329/pspfolder.png

Here's seplugins which contains games.txt: http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a335/chicobo329/seplugins.png

games.txt looks like this as instructed, adding the PSP to account for the root folders: http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a335/chicobo329/gamestxt.png

livepatch folder has this, and the fftpsp folder contains the two .live patches (I'm too lazy to screencap that folder): http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a335/chicobo329/livepatch.png

The custom firmware I'm using is called 6.60 PRO-B10, I'm having it run temporarily on my PSP and it is not permanent. When I reset the PSP, run the CFW and start my FFT:WotL (which is in UMD form by the way), the patches will not load. Is there something I'm missing in the process or is it a problem with the CFW I'm using?
Title: Re: WotL Slowdown Removal Patch
Post by: endrift on May 27, 2012, 10:43:57 pm
the livepatch and seplugins folders go at the root of the memory stick--in the same folder as the PSP folder, not within the PSP folder itself.

If that still doesn't work, try renaming game.txt to game (if it warns you about changing the extension, then that wasn't the problem).
Title: Re: WotL Slowdown Removal Patch
Post by: chicobo329 on May 27, 2012, 10:52:54 pm
I moved the livepatch and seplugins folders where instructed, but the patches will not work still. When I attempt to rename games.txt, I get a warning about changing the file extension so that must not be the problem. Is it the type of CFW I'm using that's the problem?

EDIT: Aha! It was a small misspell in games.txt. It should be game.txt! It now works fine.

I want to add that these patches are very welcome and you deserve a lot of kudos for making the game run a lot smoother!

Hello everyone,

I just signed up to let everyone know that my brother and I have also tested this speed patch on multiplayer and it works fine there as well.

No bugs were found while playing, and it didn't crash while pressing any/all combination of buttons.
I was using the UMD and he was using an ISO, they worked fine together using the same patch installation method and online.

A great job goes out to Archaemic on the patch, and on the rest of the community for beta testing.

Thanks very much for this patch.

As far as I know, it works on PSP GO, but you have to put the files on the memory stick; it won't work on the internal flash.

Some of the summoner skills will drop frames even with the slowdown fix sometimes, but that's actually reasonable for some of the effects (and happens on the PS1 version too). It's not slowdown per se, though, because it's dropping frames and not delaying too long between frames.

Right, thanks for clearing out :)

Ah, i found a bug (maybe?). On first city, if you go in the Guild (to recruit people), the size of screen changes to a stretched version (not fully stretched, something like 2x the width of the non stretched version)

Shop/Guild was a bug, that's been fixed. FMVs weren't stretched in the first place, so those are left as-is. Anything else is likely a bug. I'll take a look at this later.

Just wanted to say thanks for the patch (and thanks to the folks who helped explain how to actually patch the game). I owned the PSP version for a while, but ended up not playing much of it last year because of how laborious it was to watch the animations. Ended up playing through it this past week on my iPhone, and though it was slightly better (after turning off the friend/foe icon indicators), it's so, so much better playing my second playthrough on my PSP with this patch. Now, I'll get to enjoy the elements that are missing from the iOS version. Instant addiction.

I don't know if this is everyone, but I'm encountering a problem with the slow-fix...

All of the attacks that otherwise had been slowed, and even the ones that I don't think otherwise were... Have sped up to well beyond where they should be. I'm running 6.60 PRO-C on a 3001 and I do not have the aspect ratio patch in, just the speed fix.

Is there something I'm doing wrong? Is this the way the patch is? Because honestly, too slow was better than too fast. At least I could still see the animation.

Edit: I added in the stretch fix and the speed is still off, though it appears to be slightly less so. Also, did you mean for there to be space on the top and bottom of the screen? I don't mean to seem to be complaining overmuch, and the aspect ratio is one thing, but that just seems like wasted space, to me.

I'm having a problem running the patch.

I'm using CFW 6.60 PRO-C

I know that pretty much what I've done works since the unstretch patch is working, though the fast.live doesn't work at all.

I've put it in the same folder as unstretch, Game.txt obviously where it's supposed to be with the text and all.

Also when I go to Recovery Menu / Plugins livepatch.prx is Enabled, but all of the animations are still painfully slow.

Does it have to be in a new game? if not I really don't know what else I could do.

Thanks!

Okay. This has become extremely problematic for me, and I seem to be running into a Brick Wall at every turn. I've spent the better part of an hour trying to figure this out, and to make the patch work and run effectively, but so far, every attempt has been futile.

I am running the 6.60 B10 Pro Custom Firmware. The Light Patch, not the permanent patch, but I believe that is the least of my worries.

I've followed the step by step instructions in the Youtube Video, but to absolutely no avail. I've scoured every thread so far and have eployed numerous tactics, such as renaming the file "GAME.TXT" to "game" to game.txt" to no avail. I have the Folders "SEPLUGINS" and "livepatch" located on the Root of my Memory Stick, but still nothing.

However, When I run my PSP in Recovery Mode, under plugins, it shows the Plugin listed, but not when I press the Select Button Initially. Which probably means that I'm doing something wrong here. Can anyone help me out at all...?  :(

EDIT: Just got it to work. Finally! This patch is absolutely astounding! It's practically flawless!! This is one of the best things I've ever encountered. All I have to say is thank you, beyond words!!

have you checked your argument strings? (ms0:/livepatch/.../livepatch.prx ? or whatever yours is) I know that was what got me..

gotta make sure that the .prx file is actually just named "livepatch.prx" not "live_patch" or "livePatch"

i would check those things first... if those are ok... i would maybe look at the permanent patch next ;)

Edit: Im an idiot and didnt see your EDIT lol... ignore this then! glad you got it to work tho!

So, I'm running 6.60 PRO-B10 (permanent) on my PSP 1000. I've got the prx file in ms0:/livepatch and the fast.live at ms0:/livepatch/fftpsp . The plugin is enabled, and it shows up in my plugins list in the recovery menu, but it still doesn't seem to be working (i.e. skills such as Shadowblade are still being lagged). Any thoughts? Or did I just miss something?

EDIT: Herpaderp. My plugin in game.txt was pointing to ms0:/seplugins/livepatch/livepatch.prx instead of ms0:/livepatch/livepatch.prx. Issue fixed, works great! :D

If you've tried everything and are still having issues getting it to run, try this PPF I made. Just patch the ISO and you should be good to go. It can be found here. (http://ffhacktics.com/smf/index.php?topic=9208.0)

Hey, Archaemic, is it possible to patch iOS version? It is PSP port of WotL and has the same slowdown.

Magnificient job Archaemic!

It would be possible to make the patch compatible with the PAL version of the game? I have specifically that one to apply the Spanish translation, which is only available for the PAL version.

Thanks people. :D

Try using the PPF version. No guarantees it'll work (and it probably won't), but it's worth a try. Be sure to keep a clean backup just in case.

I have already tried it but doesn't work. I guess that would require a specific patch made for the PAL version to work. Hopefully Archaemic or someone else could do it...

I use a European ISO version of the game for patching/editing/testing as opposed to my UMD vanilla version and it works perfectly on mine. I think it has alot to do with your firmware. The PPF easypatch version didn't work for me, but the .prx version does. When you put it on your PSP, you have to make sure it's activated first in your plugins section of the recovery menu, if you are trying to use it (the prx version)

Could you tell me where to put the /livepatch/ folder to get it to work on the Vita?  I have 6.60 TN-B and can't seem to get the patch to take hold.

Currently, I have the /livepatch/ folder in the root directory along with /ISO/

I put the livepatch folder in the root of the memory card. I made a SEPLUGINS folder, too. Then, make a GAME.txt file and put in the text:

ms0:/livepatch/livepatch.prx 1

Put the GAME.txt in the SEPLUGINS folder and the folder that has the save file and exploit for whatever version of the exploit you're using. I don't know if it's necessary to have GAME.txt in both folders. I've read conflicting suggestions, but that's what is working for me.

On a separate note, I've been trying to get FFT:WOTL 1.3 Patch to work with the Vita but it keeps going to a black screen...I wonder if it's a problem with the specific ISO....

Thanks again for your help with the patch!

It may be your ISO. You may need to rip it again. I was trying the patch on a converted CSO of the game. I don't have any ISO of it saved anywhere.

I came back to the forums just to thank Archaemic and anyone else that might have helped him make this! It is HUGE! I always loved FFT, and I've always cherished my copy of WorL, but the slowdown really got to my nerves - really, sometimes I just couldn't keep playing because all the animations would make me sleepy! First of all i want to thank everyone and anyone who took part in making this patch! I still can't figure out why the game developers would never update it.  Feels like good old fft again!

*My question: I don't know if its just me, but it seems like the animations actually run faster than they did on ps1.  In a way i actually like it faster though.  Is it supossed to do this or is it just me?

Some tips for anyone having problems getting the patch to work...
I had a lot of problems getting the patch to work, this is how i eventually got it to work

1. Rename the LivePatch 0.1.3 folder to livepatch
2. Make sure you place the fftpsp folder (Do not rename the folder) with the patches you want, inside the livepatch folder
3. Place the livepatch folder on root of memory stick
4. go to root of memory stick -> livepatch -> livepatch -> cut livepatch.prx and paste into the main livepatch folder, then delete the sub livepatch folder.  So when you are done, if you open livepatch from the root you should see 3 texts, livepatch.prx, the src folder, and the fftpsp folder.  And thats all you should see (unless you have other patch folders from other stuff)
5. Go to root and see if you have an seplugins folder, if not, make one
6. Go into seplugins and make a new text document called GAME (do NOT add .txt to the end)
7. Edit the GAME document (it should be blank) add this line ms0:/livepatch/livepatch.prx 1
8. save the document
9. Remove the memory stick from comp/exit USB mode
10. Insert memory stick into psp, if not already inserted
11. Turn on psp and make sure your in "custom firmware mode" (you probably know what i mean, if your running temporary cfw)
12. Find a way to get into the Recovery Menu (you can do this by clicking select if your on pro b10, then clicking recovery menu)
13. Go to plugins and click X
14. Look for livepatch.prx [GAME]    (the [GAME] may look different if you didnt name the text document in seplugins the same way as shown in step 6)
15. If you don't see livepatch.prx we got problems... If you do see it look to the right.  If it says enabled all is good.  If it says disabled click X to set it to enabled.
16. Cancel out to the psp menu and try running the game on either UMD or ISO.

If your slowdown still occurs you can try making a copy of livepatch.prx and placing it in the seplugins folder also.
If all else fails and you really want to get rid of the slowdown on a UMD, i can email you copies of my folders, which work.

Do you need custom firmware for the Vita to do this?  I haven't found a way to transfer files directly, and I've found the built in Content Manager to be extremely restrictive.  If this can be done with base software, could you please give me some more detail on how?  Thanks. :)

Hi, I'm having trouble getting the speedfix to work. I'm running 6.60 Pro-C2. I've been trying for the last hour and a half, verifying and re-verifying that I've correctly followed the steps. I finally noticed that, for some reason, GAME.TXT keeps getting wiped. I'll add the "ms0:/livepatch/livepatch.prx 1" line, save it, turn off usb mode, turn it back on, and all that will be in GAMES.TXT will be " 1". I'm pretty sure this is the problem, but cannot get it to stop this behavior. Does anybody have any advice?

Thanks in advance guys, and good work on the patch, wether I get it to work or not.

Is there any way to modify the unstretch? The ratio is fine but I notice that it doesn't use the full height of the screen (on a 3001, at least), leaving a small margin on top and bottom.
Title: Re: WotL Slowdown Removal Patch
Post by: Angel on August 01, 2013, 01:01:28 pm
That's the whole point of unstretching the image - to draw at 1:1 ratio, no ugly blurry interpolated scaling. You cannot get it at full height without compromising the image, and the patch exists to not compromise the image. Just don't use the patch, and you'll get the desired result.

1:1 pixel ratio of this game distorts the perspective, drawing everything too narrow than intended to be viewed. It was intended to be drawn at a very non-standard resolution for performance purposes and be ratio corrected by the mystical technology of CRT televisions. It was never designed to run on a linear display like LCD. To play on PSP, you have to sacrifice either proper ratio for clean pixel display, or clean pixel display for proper ratio. Sacrificing both is like saying, "I really love this high definition remaster, but could you re-encode for Game Boy Advance Video?"

Guys! I recently purchased my first PSP (I know, I'm kinda late but right now games are dirt cheap) and my first buy was FFT. I was not aware of the slowdown issues and quite honestly I was kind of disappointed when i first saw it. After entering "Final fantasy tactics psp slowdown" on Google, one of the first results pointed me to (thank god) this website and to this fantastic patch.

I decided to register just to thank Archaemic and everyone in general who put time and effort into this patch, website and thread! I'm enjoying this game immensely after playing it for the first time around 13 or 14 years ago.

My issue, the game.txt file. The one that I created on my Mac was NOT working. I downloaded one off the internet, slapped in the ms0:/livepatch/livepatch/livepatch.prx 1 and it RAN.

Amazing piece of work, and if you're having issues, try downloading a game.txt file!

Title: Re: WotL Slowdown Removal Patch
Post by: Angel on May 15, 2014, 08:54:44 pm
The topic predates PPSSPP considerably, so, ISO. Though it may be easier to just look for the bytes to change and edit it with a hex editor, since there are so many English versions of WotL that you are likely to pull out every hair on your head trying to get the ISO to patch properly. Unless you already have a Euro ISO, in which case, use Eternal's ppf.

Hello, guys!
I was keeping an eye on this whole conversation about slowdown, patchs, game.txt and ppf files.
I'm a great fan from FFT oldschool and like everyone here was disappointed to see how things went slowed down in the official PSP version.
Here is the situation: I'm playing already the laggish version (apparently the NTSC version) and tried to patch first with the plugin and then with ppf o matic.
Yesterday I downloaded a PAL version of the game and it worked just fine & fast (but obviously I couldn't use the saves that I had).
As I saw that many people solved their problems here, I'd just ask straight: Is there a way to try something to make my game faster? I'm no PSP expert, but I know PAL and NTSC are so different that I shouldn't try converting or whatever.
Oh, and I'm using the iso file on the PSP, which is a Go 3000, with CFW pro update, if I rememeber correctly.
Title: Re: WotL Slowdown Removal Patch
Post by: Angel on July 01, 2014, 04:17:07 pm
As in, make the game itself run in turbo mode or so? Or just get the slowdown fix working for your NTSC copy? Not at all likely to the former, yes to the latter. There are a few patches in this thread for the NTSC versions, just have to try them until one works.

If it is turbo that you're looking for, it probably isn't going to happen outside of an emulator. I'd imagine it would be possible, but likely not simple.

I downloaded the livepatch, the patches, and tried to install it properly.  I loaded up the game, but I still saw the slowdown with using potions.  I went back to the seplugins/game.txt file to see I did wrong.

I had this
mso:/livepatch/livepatch.prf 1

Haha.  I ended up fixing those errors.
ms0:/livepatch/livepatch.prx 1

I loaded up the game.  I had a save with 5 ninjas and the final boss.  Just wow.  WOW.  The game is that much better for me.  Thank you so much Archaemic for doing this.

Hello everyone =) So I just got FFT:WotL and have been trying to speed up the animations for the longest time. I really tried my best trying to figure out how to make the patch work using the video posted online (tried about 6 or 7 times) and still nothing.

I used the video on youtube called "PSP CFW FFT:WOTL Slowdown removal patch" by "xiongh2001". At 34 seconds in the video he downloads the wotl-patches zip and LivePatch 0.1.2.zip, I think the names have changed a bit now (being a few years later) but I also download the wotl-patches zip but the livepatch is a little different and says LivePatch 0.1.3.zip. I download that one.

When I attempt to extract the file from the wotl-patches zip I recieve a message saying that it cannot e incrypted but I continue on by hitting okay. The livepatch folder extracts normally.

At 1:04 when the youtuber opens the wotl-patches folder he only has a folder that says fftpsp and a note that says README, I have both and an additional folder that says fftpsp-jp. Not sure if thats bad.

Now heres the part where I really dont understand- Inside the youtubers livepatch folder at 1:28 into the video he has 6 things. 2 folders; src and the fftpsp he just copied in there (which i also have in mine) 3 weird text things called CHANGES.txt LICENSE.txt and README.txt ( I have these three things but they do not have the .txt at the end. Is that bad?) then the really odd part is that while the youtube has a weird blank white icon that reads livepatch.prx I have a 3rd folder which reads "livepatch" and inside it is a prx file called livepatch. Shouldn't that be outside with the other 5 things like the youtuber has?

From thwn on I am able to follow the video pretty well but when he gets to the seplugins folder part a get a little lost again because I had to create my own seplugins folder and I wasn't exactly sure what to write on the texts games,game150,pops, and vsh.

I know I just wrote a ton but if you guys could try and walk through it with me I would SOOO appreciate it! And I'm not the greatest with computers so if you could use some easier vernacular that would be great! THANK YOU!

Hey buddy,
Saw your post and since no one has replied, I thought I'd try and help you out. I just did this today after about 3 hours of troubleshooting.

Things to watch out for after watching that tutorial vid:

1)The game file should read "game"- not "game txt". It should be a txt file, i.e. notepad program file.

2)Make sure that livepatch folder is not in another livepatch folder. (Watch the vid closely: It should be livepatch folder, next to "PSP" etc. folders,  then in the "livepatch" folder should be the livepatch.prx  file)

3) If you're using the Japanese patch, make sure to delete the "-jp"  in the file name. (This happened to me...)

Hope this helps.

Also I want to express my deep gratitude for making this patch!
Wonderful! It was unplayable before! Thank you!

I tested this on a Playstation Vita using both TN-V and ARK (3.55 firmware).

TN-V:
Install like you would on a normal PSP using VitaFTP to upload the files as appropriate.

ARK:
Same as TN-V however you instead use PLUGINS.TXT inside the ARK_12345 savefile.
Line should be as follows (since format is different from normal)
umdemu,ms0:/livepatch/livepatch.prx,1

I tested livepatch using the obvious effects of the unstretch live patch against an unmodified Final Fantasy Tactics: WOTL CSO.

I can confirm this works, but I have to run it through tn-v instead of the home menu otherwise it won't apply.

I also have to add that it does not work in OneMenu, as it doesn't load the plugins. In fact I can't run it from TN-V now because I get an error message when I try to.

Hi,

I was wondering if you could help me figure how to get the patch to work.

I just got the game working through Ark on my Vita, but I have been having trouble getting the patch to work.

So I placed the plugins.txt in the Ark_01234 folder and transferred that to my vita using CMA.

I then placed the livepatch folder in the save data folder with my FFT iso and transferred it to my vita.

But when I run the game, it is still slow.

Am I doing this wrong?

All of the stuff being talked about just makes my head hurt. Does anyone happen to know whether the stretching and slowdown in War of the Lions can be patched when the digital version of the PSP game was purchased from the PlayStation Store onto a PlayStation TV? I figured out how to download some kind of application called Content Manager Assistant, but I'm not sure how to proceed.

Two things: the livepatch is written to be run on a PSP (not a Vita or PSTV), and you do not want to disable stretching unless you are playing on a PSP and hate both blurryvision and uneven pixel spanning. You want the stretching in every other case, because it's doing that to preserve the pixel aspect of the original game so that it looks like how it's supposed to on a TV. Aspect ratio is good, aspect ratio is god. Praise be to aspect ratio.

In that case, is there any other way to make the image be less distorted? Or is this as good as it'll get as a digital copy?

Oh wow, that's some ugly screen filtering right there. o.o

I don't have a PSTV, but the screen filter should have options to toggle. PS3 does, at least, even if it's only two options (blocky or blurry). But yeah, that's unacceptable. Unfortunately, I don't think the stretching hack would work to begin with, because that's very obviously a post-processing filter.

On the Vita, you can hold down the PS button when in a PSP game and you can switch between linear and nearest neighbor filtering. That's...clearly not linear, and is doing some smoothing, so idk. But you can probably do something similar on the Vita TV.

As for the other patches...not really, no. You need to install eCFW (not easy/even possible on all firmwares), which I don't think will have access to the PSN version. If it does, you can set things up, but I'm not the right person to ask about that. The forums at wololo.net will be more helpful.

So, can someone please help me with the process of manually fixing the stretching? I'm running PPSSPP so I can't use the livepatch. I've got an extracted ISO and a Hex editor. I'm guessing I need to change some of the values listed here http://ffhacktics.com/wiki/War_of_the_Lions in the EBOOT file? Can someone please tell me exactly which values I'll want to be changing and perhaps give an example of changing one of them with a HEX editor so I can do the rest on my own? I'm using version ULUS 10297 of the game if that helps. Thanks a lot!

Forgive my vulgarity, but why in the actual fuck would you want the stretch patch if you're using PPSSPP? It's designed to restore pixel aspect (which is dead wrong for viewing purposes) and I doubt your monitor is PSP resolution to get the actual benefit out of it. All you'd do is make the image squished and not take up the full screen.

Lol, come on man. Calm down. I don't like the image being stretched from the original PSX aspect/pixel ratio. I don't think it looks good at all. Every character sprite looks a little shorter and fatter especially when playing on a big monitor. Using PPSSPP, which I'm VERY familiar with, I can get a 1/2 - 1/4 pixel ratio (which is PERFECT) IF I can get it back to it's original proportions.

I'll give you an example. When playing FFT on ePSXe I set up the emulator so that it EXACTLY doubles the pixel ratio. So, for every original pixel in the game I get 4 on the screen, which leave the proportions perfectly where they should be and looks great. In other words, I'm exactly doubling the resolution. I tell it to NOT go full screen, so I do deal with small black bars at the top and bottom of the image but it's a small price to pay for having perfect pixel ratio. I want to do the same thing with the PSP version since I feel it's superior to the PSX version.

I hope I made this clear enough. It's a lot easier to see what I'm talking about when looking at comparison images.

"Where they should be" is incorrect, since the game was designed for 4:3 output. 320x480 is another strange resolution that gets sorted to 4:3 by output, and would look absolutely ridiculous at pixel aspect. 4:3 is how it should be, how it was intended to appear. This was kept in mind when porting to PSP, and scaled accordingly for the new 16:9 display.

Don't get me wrong, I hate stretching, too - especially the fuglystretching ePSXe does (which is a poor choice of emulator for FFT, but that's an argument for another day) - but I've always had the game on a real PlayStation, to a real TV that displays it properly, and PPSSPP does an outstanding job of keeping the crispness of the image without distortion while showing at the correct ratio. I wish more emulators handled scaling as intelligently and beautifully as PPSSPP does. Half the time, I have to fall back on user-made filters.

If you're still adamant about having it draw at pixel ratio with incorrect proportions, I begrudgingly understand. Just please don't say that it's how it should be.

Hi, I have trouble running the slowdown removal patch.

I'm running an ISO ripped from an original NTSC-U/Greatest Hits version of the game - I had to do so to apply sadnes city's translation patch (I'm namedropping in case there is a known problem with that particular patch, not intended to be spam). I tried applying the slowdown and unstretch patches following https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y7stkSsobPM&feature=youtu.be and, while the latter works, the former (and the one I really care about) doesn't have any effect. I loaded up my old save file, tried using some of Ramza's Squire abilities and they still suffer slowdowns.
This is how my folders look like http://imgur.com/ImMR8Ic

Again, the aspect ratio patch does work, and the translation patch makers suggest the slowdown removal too (even though through an executable by a french hacker called "plastik", of which I found nothing online, and whose tool was supposed to be included in the translation patch - sadly it's not anymore, so I'm stuck with livepatch) so it should be compatible.

Any tips?

EDIT did some other testing with both my original UMD and the translated ISO (and I now I'm beating a dead horse but, goddamn, the UMD load times are nightmare fuels) and the UMD/english copy does have slowdowns removed. It's the translated iso that doesn't work, only the unstretching patch does with it. I'll ask on the translators' forum, but does anyone have an idea about what might be causing this and how to fix it (for example, I just noticed another thread here with the slowdown patch in .pff form. Can I apply it on top of the already .pffed, due to the translation, ISO?)?

Yes, fresh new (I'm playing Valkyria chronicles 3 thanks to an ISO so it's fine) :s I'm sure I did something wrong but I don't know what (installing the patch I mean). The patch work on UMD version of the game, right?

So I downloaded the .7z file for the slowdown animation patch from cdromance since it says it has the patch already implemented into it. After I extract the files though I can't find what would be the .iso file in it. I'd love any guidance on this since I want to try the game without lag. I'm trying to put it on my psp 3000 model, thank you!

Edit: I figured it out. The .iso extension wasn't showing up through all the text of the file name XD can't wait to enjoy <3
