Title: Tester's Report: Text
Post by: Cheetah on September 04, 2009, 01:28:27 pm
What is the Text: This is all text that appears outside of events, from item names to character descriptions.

How to test the Text: Really good testing is going to require really close comparison of all the menus, descriptions, help info, Chronicles, and Propositions to the PSP version of the game. There are many many menus hidden in the game and lots of nocks and crannies to explore and see if we have missed something. I am attaching a save file to this thread which has all items and unlockable Chornicles stuff available from the beginning of the game to facilitate testing. Some things will just require paying close attention while playing through the game.

What to look for:
-Dialog boxes with wierd lines through them (first screen shot)
-Text running over the edge of a window, dissappearing, or just being poorly formatted.
-Typos, stuff looking like it is in the wrong place

Areas that need extra attention:
-Spell Quotes: These are the only thing that are original and need to be looked over for content errors, like correct naming and matching up with the spell being cast. Obviously these will be difficult to test in game, we will look into ways of making it easier.
-Propositions: The only way to test them is to do them all. Not only is there the text while you are excepting and completing them, but while your characters are off on them there is some different information in the Chronicles section.
-Character Quotes:

How to report Text errors: Screen shots are essentially mandatory for error reports and info on what it is supposed to be if it is unreadable in the screen shot.

Outstanding Text Errors:
- Change the menu text "All" to "Total", then revert Darlavon's statement back in the tutorial.
- Remove the spell quote autoskip, make a seperate hack.
- Error in dialog from Ninja in Tutorial

I noticed that "Critical: Recover MP" doesn't completely fit. It shows "Critical: Recover M".

Spell quote for Judgment Blade disappears immediately after being displayed. Kind of hard to get a screenshot of the exact problem because it just disappears instead of pausing for the button press...

EDIT: Spell quote for Haste did this too. I'll turn text output speed down to lowest and try to get a screenshot, though I dunno if it'll help.

EDIT THE SECOND: Also Umbra

Screenshot doesn't help much, it just displays the spell quote and immediately closes it. I managed to get it mid-close...

We changed the quotes so they close automatically (instead of requiring you to press circle).
Maybe there should be a delay...

Yeah, especially if people play on Frame Skip.

Darlavon reads a label wrong in the Roster tutorial #3 (Equipping Items).

He talks about a "Total" label, but it's actually "All" in our game.

If only we could add an option to the option menu saying whether you wanted them to automatically close or not... But at least having a delay is a good starting point.

I think you could, though it would require a lot of ASM work.  I've seen something simular with changing the text for skills in another PSX patch, Cless's Tales of Phantasia Translation at www.tales-cless.org (http://www.tales-cless.org) .

When you press select on "Act" in battle it gets the weird lines.

Damn guys this is amazing though, I plan on checking for errors quite a bit in the next day or two.

Equipment description formatting issues I've come across so far.

Zwill Straightblade effect is partially covered by the next page icon:

"Jobs capable of equipping" formatting is off on the Assassin's Dagger:

As well as on the Orichalcum Dirk:

On Flame Rod and Ice Rod, the spell effect (ie Blizzard and Fire) are placed under the "page down" icon, so they're only partially visible. The Thunder Rod seems to avoid this problem by making the description of the item on a separate page.

Also, a line runs too long when you're first made a treasure hunter, and extends a bit past the text box.

(http://img82.imageshack.us/img82/1381/argath.th.jpg) (http://img82.imageshack.us/i/argath.jpg/)

This is necessary because the length of Ramza's name can change from game to game. If someone names Ramza "WWWWWWWWWWWW" or something that is very wide, it will push the text off the edge of the window.

So here's a question for you guys who are working / have worked on FFT:C. Another thread in this topic suggested that you weren't/aren't using a standard version of FFTacText for your edits, and this seems to be causing problems for those of us who wish to use FFT:C as a base for our personal mods. Are you guys using TacText 457? 466? or the ever-elusive 478? Is there any way to get the exact same version you guys are using (rumor has it that you are using a modified 457, but thats just what i've heard).

Are the fixes done by melonhead already applied to the v50 downloadable patch? When I applied the patch from the download, the errors were still present. Anyways, thanks for the effort, I hated the psp version for the slowdown, this saves me from having a nerd rage lol.

EDIT: Missing Text Bubble
I think there is a missing text bubble on the battle of Sweegy Woods(Siege Weald), the one being of Gaffgarion. Gaffgarion looks at Ramza but no text bubble appears and I think he was trying to say something there. I'll try to get a screenshot.

It was the battle to save the chocobo, if that needs to be known.

Hey  hey, been a few months, but now that I have a bit of free time again I was playing some FFT:C and came across this bug(?):

Screenshot: http://img718.imageshack.us/img718/8644/fazade.jpg (http://img718.imageshack.us/img718/8644/fazade.jpg)

I never made it far enough in WotL to get this so I'm not fully sure if it's really a bug, but I'd assume that the word is supposed to be façade? Course, it could just be Square coming up with their own term, I dunno, either way I figured I'd bring it to your attention, if it's a bug then good, if not then that's how it goes.

Hey i was just going through FFTacText working on my own patch built off of FFT:C, and i noticed that all of the holy swordskill effects don't have the Holy keyword in their descriptions. Its true that the WOTL script doesnt include them either (I also checked just to make sure) but i think that its important to have. Even though the fire spell is clearly fire elemental, it still says so in the description.

Just my two cents.
Title: Re: Tester's Report: Text

As far as I remember, the Holy Swordskills weren't Holy-based, they were just plain old physical attacks.
Title: Re: Tester's Report: Text

The Swordskills don't actually have an elemental property, they take on whatever property the sword you are using has.

Orly? I just started up a new patch and looked at them. They're all holy, and Lightning Stab/Hallowed bolt also has lightning. I also imported a freshly patched version of FFT:C and found the same thing.

I believe the holy swords skills' data i set up correctly, but there is some glitch that prevents them from taking those elemental settings into account.
Zodiac made an asm patch to fix that.

Well, FFT 1.3 or whatever patch might have changed it, but in the original, the  holy swordskills were bugged and didn't actually have the elemental properties that the description said that they did. They simply took on elemental property of whatever weapon they had equipped. The computer however is not aware of this which is why they will not attack you with holy swordskills if have a holy immunity, like if you were wearing a chameleon robe.

If it was originally meant to be the element of the ability it should be made so. Although, if it is a bug, we don't entirely know what the original creators wanted it to be...

I also agree. I think that you should use the ASM hack to fix the elemental nature of the Weapon Strike boolean, then include the {Color 08}Element: {Color 00}Holy in the description. Just my opinion though.

In the fight vs Zalera, the two ghost Knights that come out of the coffins around Elmdore have the Knight class, but their first Action Ability slot reads "Swordplay". The description, however, corresponds to the Knight's "Art of War" skillset.

They also don't have any equipment. Not sure if any of that has anything to do with the patch or if it was like that in the original, though, just saying.

Forgive the "screenshots", they were taken with my ipod touch, playing on cfw PSP and don't currently have any screenshot plugin active.

Not sure if this has been reported yet...

In the save/load menus, the name of the map point you saved on obviously needs to be different from the map point's name due to space contraints ("The Walled City of Yardow" becomes "Yardow", that's fine), but Fort Besselat is still refered to as "Bethla Garrisson" in save menus. There may be others like that, I'd need to check them all.

Hmmmm, dunno if you're still working on this, but Gaffgarion's Shadowblade (that's the one that does HP damage, right?) has no pause after he recites its punchline, that is, after he says his thing, the text box disappears immediately.

As for them having nothing equipped, it was also like that in the original. Either the developers forgot to put equipment on said characters or it symbolizes that once you die, you can't bring material things with you to the afterlife. They are summon from the stone "coffin". Pick what you like...

After applying the .ppf to an iso, any edits made with FFTactext to that iso thereafter will *always*--and I mean *always* even if no changes were actually made--result in the OPEN.BLV error. It doesn't matter if you have a specific iso type, doesn't matter if you actually edit anything, nada.

Quite frustrating since the WotL text was quite enjoyable.

These are the currently garbled audiobooks that are unlocked but are still in the process of getting translated and inserted.

Please remove these pictures from your post, they are WAY to huge.

Sorry for necroposting. I have some questions.
1.Ability quote always goes away right after the last letter pops up, so I can't read the whole text. I wonder if anyone know how to fix this.
2.It is not like this in FFT vanilla, right? I kinda remember that ability quote will not go away if I did not press O.

Sorry about my English that might make you confuse and thank you too. :D

Correct, because they made it close on its own, without testing to see how it looked in game lol. They needed to put delays in there and didnt :P

Will the ability quotes going away with no delay ever be fixed? Is anyone interested in fixing it? Or has it been too long and there will be no more new releases of the patch?

Thank you in advance.
