Lady Ruglia, apparently she wasn't married to Balbanes, since she had Ramza and Alma out of wedlock, (at least Ramza). She was of common birth, and just a concubine of Balbanes. She died before the game begins, but she apparently told Ramza not to try too hard to live up to the Beoulve name. That's really all that's known about her.

The game. Ramza in the second chapter calls himself Ramza Ruglia until Gafgarion blows his cover, according to the game the name is his mother's maiden name, so it is hinted that she did marry before Alma was born, at least. The brave story says this all.

She was of common birth "Bad blood is bad blood after all!" Zalbag yells at Ramza in terms of his birthright.

She was a concubine "Very well done even if you are the son of a consort, you have the blood of a Beoulve." Cardinal Delacroix says in WoTL.

Died before the game begins, well... we never hear of her, that's for sure.

And finally, Alma's remark "You're the one trying to hard to live up to their expectation" Ramza replies " You sound like our mother, ha, ha, ha.". That's all we know of Lady Ruglia.

"Unparalleled knowledge" LD you might have some competition from me (not really) in that department cause I make knowing the story of this game inside and out the inner essence of what my memory is allowed to store. Lol but yea like he says we don't learn more about here than those little tidbits in the Zodiac Story and and lines in the story. I would be nice to have a sprite for her based lightly on Alma as I would like to take the info we have and make a patch of the 50 year war.

Well great to see another one who can appreciate the story! Personally my least favorite character in the PSX version is Balk, but the PSP version really gives him much more character for his still, very few lines.

Indeed but my least favorite character in the PSX version was was Rofel as he seemed like too much of a lackey for my tastes. In the PSX I kinda despised the concept of Luso as he was a Ramza clone at best, a custom skill set would have been nice. At least they tried with Balthier even though barrage was the only move that made him stand out.

Well Rofel was just... a lackey, but at least he's shown to be the brains behind the brawn, he's the clever diplomat, with a silk tongue, (if only his battle displayed this a bit more.)

Kletian was the arrogant youth straight out of Gariland, graduated at the top of his class, and felt it was a gift to become a Shrine Knight. His PSP battle shows before he turned into a complete jerk (Read... Demon?) Meliadoul and him were at least on a bit more then a friendly basis..

A few things I'd like to point out.

I don't remember "Ruglia" being mentioned as her maiden name in the PSX version. And in the WOTL, Lugria is said to be her family name. They never really mention her being married.

Delacroix's line in WOTL is also a bit different than what you posted.

"I see Gaffgarion's sword was no match for his words. Then again, perhaps the fault lies with his adversary. Beoulve blood is not given to spill easily. Even when thinned with that of a courtesan, it would seem."

Finally, in Ch. 1, Ramza is called the "issue of his father's paramour" in the Chronicles. All of those suggest that she was his father's mistress.

Indeed I like the PSP scene between Wiegraf and Rofel cause it does show his clever uses of words more than the simple scene with Dycedarg in the PSX. Also that battle against Kletian does show a bit more that you didn't get so I think those where less story components and more of developing the characters for the players enjoyment.

@Dom it does mention Ruglia in the PSX version you may want to replay cause it's only in the chronicles for a short while so it's hard to catch. Also these are a good deal of assumption as very little is actually blatantly stated.

Balthier is good for more than just Barrage though. His Plunder skills all have a higher success rate than Steal. He's as fast as a Ninja, but with better overall stats. And he has one of the widest choices of equipment in the game.

He's one of the most versatile units you can get.

I never said anything bad about him though he is my goto guy. How did you train him? my Balthier was 1.5 times faster than my ninjas with a max speed of 27(In vanilla of course).

I'm looking at the PSX Game Script section with the Brave Story entries and I see no mention of Ruglia being his mother's family name. It just says that he changed his name to distance himself from the Beoulve family.

I was responding to where you said only Barrage makes him stand out.

Anyways, I dabbled him in everything. I usually rotated him between doing three things though.

- Jumping on enemies
- Melee
- Gunslinging

Yup, he is one ridiculously powerful unit.

PSX Game Script

I may not be remembering it and this script may have missed it, but I doubt it. There's even lines in here that I was never aware of (I didn't know that there were more line in the battle with Queklain for example).

He's right, but I don't believe it's an embellishment of the PSP script, but something missed out by our translators. The name Ruglia is used though for Ramza in the second chapter, though the PSX might not give a name to where this comes from the PSP correctly translated certainly does.

Ramza Ruglia (Age: 17)
------------
Fencer of mercenary group led by Gafgarion and became a
mercenary after the tragedy at Fort Zeakden. He changed his
name to distance himself from the Beoulve family as Gafgarion
is the only person that is aware of this. Fights in search of
life.
