Final Fantasy Tactics / FFT's on Android now too
February 17, 2013, 01:38:42 am
Square Enix is apparently continuing their mobile push, because FFT (and specifically, WOTL) has arrived on Android, at least in Japan so far, though I'd guess other versions of it aren't far behind.

The big change this time around? Further enhanced visuals

There's more screenshots of the new visuals located on Famitsu. To my (admittedly untrained) eyes, it looks pretty good and, assuming the game doesn't have any major issues, I'm looking forward to trying it on my Nexus 4.

Stumbled across this yesterday while wasting time randomly browsing Siliconera's website.

Interview with Former Square Enix Translator Tom Slattery

It's worth a read for some pretty interesting insights into the localization process. It's even more interesting because he was involved in localizing many of SE's recent titles, including some re-releases (Final Fantasy VI Advance, Final Fantasy IV DS, etc.).

The Lounge / FFT's on iOS
May 18, 2011, 08:53:42 pm
So I'm sure some of us know about the upcoming iOS version of War of the Lions, but there hasn't been much info revealed since the game was announced almost a year ago at E3 (nothing besides announcements of delays anyway). All we've known is that it was slated for release "this spring." Now we've finally gotten an update:

FFT: WOTL iPhone Release Date

The big takeaways:
- The game is now slated for a late June to mid July release (they're aiming for June).
- The iPad version might be a little delayed though because they are making a high-res version for it. Here's an example of two touched up portraits:

Frankly, I don't see the iPhone/iPod Touch version can't also have higher res visuals that would take advantage of the Retina Display. They did it for both versions of the FFIII port.

The Lounge / Allow me to reintroduce myself
March 23, 2011, 03:29:05 pm
What's up folks? Since I've been relatively inactive for the past 10 months or so, I feel like I should (re)introduce myself.

I've been a member of FFH since summer '08, though I was lurking around the site since December '07. I was mostly just writing down a battle by battle account of my (unfinished) 1.3 playthrough, which turned into this thread. Along the way, I ended up helping out with several projects and became the projects mod two years ago (I'm  it's been two years since the controversies of lolpatches), mostly because no one else was really willing to do it at the time. FYI, I'm the current moderator of the Progressing Patches and New Project Ideas sub-forums.

The past year or so (10 months really) has been somewhat challenging for me, so I haven't been nearly as active as I used to be around here. I won't go into detail about it here, but things are a little less hectic these days, so I have more time to spare (for now).

Anyway, with my spare time (and my new 15" MacBook Pro :D) I'm looking forward to getting back into the swing of things around here.

Whether or not you put any stock in astrology, I thought FFH might be interested in hearing about this.

Just a quick heads up for those folks recording and posting videos who don't already know. YouTube has increased the upload limit to 15 minutes for all users.

Would a new sub-forum under New Projects for idea threads be a good idea? That way, people can give their thoughts about specific ideas in a dedicated thread instead of having to post it all in the same thread.

Now, I know people might flood the place with threads for whatever idea comes to mind, especially newbies who aren't aware of the amount of effort needed for all but the most simple of hacks. But I also know that the members here are pretty good at either ignoring untenable ideas or chiming in on something that does seem viable. And of course, the standard for making new threads in the main sub-forum would remain the same. In other words, the new sub-forum would simply be replacing both the Patch Proposals and Job Proposal stickied threads.

So what do you think? Interesting way to allow people to post ideas without cluttering the New Projects forum with half-baked ideas and brainstorms or having ideas lost in a sticky topic? Or would it be an unnecessary change?

I'm interested in seeing [s:2n88jutf]whether or not they'll fix the damn slowdown[/s:2n88jutf] how will they adapt FFT's menu-based UI to a touchscreen. It looks like they did a good job with the FF I & II ports' UIs, but I haven't tried them on the iPhone/iPod Touch, so I can't say for sure how well it works for those games. Either way, I'll be keeping an eye out for this.

The Lounge / A Piece on English Spelling Reform
July 27, 2009, 05:41:51 pm
For example, in Year 1 that useless letter "c" would be dropped to be replased either by "k" or "s," and likewise "x" would no longer be part of the alphabet. The only kase in which "c" would be retained would be the "ch" formation, which will be dealt with later. Year 2 might reform "w" spelling, so that "which" and "one" would take the same konsonant, wile Year 3 might well abolish "y" replasing it with "i" and Iear 4 might fiks the "g / j" anomali wonse and for all.

Jenerally, then, the improvement would kontinue iear bai iear with Iear 5 doing awai with useless double konsonants, and Iears 6-12 or so modifaiing vowlz and the rimeining voist and unvoist konsonants. Bai Iear 15 or sou, it wud fainali bi posibl tu meik ius ov thi ridandant letez "c," "y," and "x" - bai now jast a memori in the maindz ov ould doderez - tu riplais "ch," "sh," and "th" rispektivli.

Fainali, xen, aafte sam 20 iers ov orxogrefkl riform, wi wud hev a lojikl, kohirnt speling in ius xrewawt xe Ingliy-spiking werld.

It's often attributed to Mark Twain, but those who know about his works say there's no evidence he wrote this.

The Lounge / So I turned 21 today...
May 20, 2009, 11:38:44 am
I'm finally 21 and "legal" (in the U.S. anyway).

I should feel happy. But instead of feeling excited, now I'm just a little down for being a year older. At least I have good plans for today.

So how was your 1st birthday at the legal age?

EDIT: Quite a few folks here from outside the U.S., so I changed the post up a little.

Old Project Ideas / Patch Proposals/Ideas Thread
February 14, 2009, 01:59:21 pm
Part of the issue around these parts was that people were posting new threads about ideas for a patch without any actual work done. While ideas are certainly welcome, it's a bit rough wading through a lot of topics that are just ideas, but with nothing actually accomplished.

Instead of making a new thread whenever you have a new idea, post your ideas in here. Brainstorming, dreaming up, etc. Or comment on the ideas/proposals of others. Feel free to do that in here.

Hopefully, things won't get too hectic in here.

Archives / READ BEFORE POSTING *12/26/10 UPDATE*
February 14, 2009, 03:32:42 am
Have an idea for a new FFT mod? Great. You should start by heading over to New Projects Ideas.

This part of the forum is for projects that have progressed far enough that at least a playable demo for the mod is available and the mod's author is actively working on the project. Keep in mind that any other kind of thread, like a thread proposing a new mod, will be either moved or deleted.

*12/26 Update: Shifted a bunch of topics over to the Ideas sub-forum. If you're looking for a thread that was under New Projects, check in the Ideas sub-forum, since I likely moved it over there.

War of the Lions Hacking / Something Odd That I Noticed
January 21, 2009, 12:47:57 pm
I was playing through 1.3 yesterday and got to Yardrow/Yardow. After the battle, something strange happened. Before I got there, Ramza was 18 years old. But after I finished the battle there, he was suddenly 19. Not only that, but everyone who was still listed as alive at that point suddenly became a year older. This happens whenever I play through the game and get to Yardrow.

Anyone have any ideas about how this happened? I suspect that the same thing happens in the PSX version, but I can't verify that ATM.

The Lounge / What's Your Personality Type?
January 10, 2009, 09:00:08 pm
So I took the personality test on this site:

Personailty Test based on Jung - Myers-Briggs Typology

There's others, but this is always the first result from a Google search.

This and most of the others I've taken identify me as an INTJ, which is apparently considered the "Mastermind." I've also been identified as an INTP a few times. But almost always, I'm identified as an INTJ.

And there's a bunch of frozen snow outside, and all of the BS that go along with it. Like nasty ass salt, black ice, etc.

Of course, it's going to be 50 degrees tomorrow and around that for the rest of the week.

July 15, 2008, 02:56:11 pm
I found out about this site while lurking the GameFAQs forum and seeing the 1.2 thread last November. I've been lurking on and off since then, but joined up fairly recently out of interest for the 1.3 patch.

I have a patch for TWOTL based on the 1.2 patch that I'm going to start working on again.

I look forward to contributing more  8).
