It's my birthday today, and I like my blue mage portrait.

The above two clauses don't really relate.

Stupid question: is there any possible way to play my ISO on my PSX/PS2?  I've got an emulator, but the graphical capabilities of my computer aren't the best and my chair isn't very comfortable, so I'm thinking my immersion will be somewhat impeded without DualShock sticks under my thumbs.

Appreciated!

Otherwise, public scourging is allowed, as I R ignorant.

Austin, you're right, the ENDT would be the best way to go here.  Blargh, it seems the closer I draw to a close on this patch, the more things I find I want to add, and these things are getting progressively more time consuming.  I'm not sure why I was irrationally avoiding the ENDT before though, it all looks very straightforward and there are so many new options it creates for me.

And thanks for the learn percentage advice, Zozma, I hadn't fully realized what that percentage meant outside of its use for blue magic style learning.

PSX FFT Hacking / AI's method of choosing abilities
July 02, 2008, 07:58:51 pm
When you encounter an enemy unit in battle, how exactly does the game determine what skillsets and abilities that unit carries?  Does it come with a random amount of JP that the AI can then spend on random abilities within the unit's base and prerequisite classes or what?

The reason I ask is because I'm curious if lowering the JP costs on all the abilities in my personal patch will allow for more diverse enemy skillsets.  I'll likely restrict my own ability selection so I'm not hurling Ramuhs, Earth Slashes, and Wiznaibuses (Wiznaibi?) at the first Dorter battle, but I would like to see enemy Wizards able to cast spells in excess of Fire 2 by midgame, if at all possible.

Any thoughts?  I'm trying to avoid playing with the ENDT.  I'm comfortable knowing my limitations.

And it's so teensy.

Oh, oh wow.  I especially love the dead pokeball pose for it.  You speak the truth about awesomeness.

With regards to the nonexistent Blanka sprite, would Wave Around's animation work for his shock attack?  I seem to remember little lightning bolts being involved.

Blue Mage > Archer, so I am approving so hard right now.

It's totally up to BP and what he's already decided for my character, but for what it's worth, I definitely wouldn't mind if Dorminid were a Blue Mage.  One of my favorite classes, that.  Only thing is I originally envisioned her (him? me?) to be fairly mundane and painfully ordinary.  Someone who wallows in the depths of self-deprecation, as I am often wont to do, so Blue Mage might be a bit too flashy?  I dunno, up to BP.

As for portraiture, see my avatar for my clearly defined and overtly feminine facial features.

BROJ speaks the truth about the wild man Enkidu and his immortality-seeking buddy Gilgamesh, but for those that aren't completely obsessed with ancient literature and history (I like them so much they're basically my college major and minor, respectively), the many armed goofy samurai Gilgamesh is probably more culturally relevant.  So it goes.

Anyway, any flavor of Gilgamesh = awesome sprite!

The most interesting character in The Epic of Gilgamesh is Utnapishtim, anyway.  /opinion

I'm fairly intermittent in my replays, usually visiting other games in between playthroughs, so I tend to really enjoy the story every time.  That said, the game with no events at all would be like a super shot of distilled battle heroin and would be awesome.

I vote for fixing, but since I'm not having to do all the work, I say do both and have two different versions!

Quote from: "Nevarie"Did a quick test and what Voldemort7 said works fine.

Side note: wave fist without the weapon strike using that formula is hilarious. its like a telekenetic pimp slap.

I am currently really digging that idea.

I appreciate the replies guys.  That gives me some options to brainstorm.  I haven't been able to get in there and test each ability myself, so that'll help when I can get back to my home computer.

Just to be clear, if I customize a blank to be similar to a preexisting ability, I should be okay as long as I check all the same flags and give it a reasonable effect, yes?

An unrelated question: are knockback effects usable in other abilities, or are they hardcoded into Dash, Throw Stone, and crit Attacks?  I can't seem to find it listed as a status or as a part of a damage formula, so I'm going to assume this is the case.

PSX FFT Hacking / Customizing unused abilities
June 19, 2008, 09:40:14 pm
I've checked around the site somewhat aimlessly, and have so far failed to find a good list of unused abilities that I might use to make new/custom abilities from.  Does anyone have such a list lying around?  Or, if such a thing exists, could you point me in its should-have-been-obvious direction?

I know I can use things like Small Bomb for new sword skills, and that, after I shift the monster abilities around a bit, I'll have a few others to work with, but I was especially wondering about the blank slots, such as those that appear under Parasite in FFTPatcher.  I've heard that messing around with some of these blank spells result in game crashes, but which ones specifically?

And one more question: are there any plans in motion to create an easy-to-use text editor for simpletons such as myself?  Granted, my gameplay concerns currently outweigh my aesthetic ones, but it doesn't hurt to ask, right?

Thanks in advance for your answers, I'm very grateful.

Just got back from five days in the Appalachians, which was a great trip and all but for the continually mounting anticipation leading up to finally getting to watch your video.  That said, the wait was totally worth it.

awesomefreakingawesome

The biggest praise I have is that in only a few minutes' time you got me to care so much for a common named secondary generic character, that I was genuinely bummed when he met his end.  That's got to be some sort of speed record for a tear-jerking heroic sacrifice.  And now I'm really tempted to describe something as "for hammer" the next time I'm in a fitting conversation.

This is a prime piece of FFT fandom, and I hope it breaks out to a reasonably wide audience.  Looking forward to seeing my likely ill-fated Dorminid in the next installment, but definitely enjoy the break!
