Thanks, Shintroy. She's totally perfect and healthy.

Bad luck for CT5Holy here, but in fftarena it pays to lean towards the offensive side. the whole reason 40 br/fa is the minimum and 70 is max is to ensure every game ends, and it's much tougher to make a defensive team that can succeed against an all out offence. Think i'm going to make an experimental defensive team to test out against the standard offensive team. who knows, could be good.

Great show, andrew and better luck next time CT5Holy!

It's clear that there's a damage buff associated with berserk. My theory is it makes your effective brave 100, which is why berserk units do insane damage to each other. Pairing a couple chemists' with the berserk units was a clever idea.

Barren had it right when he said reks' team is lacking offensive punch. There's real potential in this team, but the units need to be a little better rounded in order to have success reliably. I'm not sure why the oracle is missing a secondary, just seems unnecessary. She could definitely benefit from white magic and even use regen for self healing.

O..ouch.. it's hard enough to make MA stacking effective without a berserk ninja going nuts everywhere. Not to say ma stacking isn't effective -it certainly is- but every turn you spend raising your stats is a turn someone is using masamune or an oracle is petrifying, or in this case a ninja being a ninja. I generally stray away from stat stacking on a more serious team for this reason.

in any case, respects anima, i have NEVER had success with ninjas. Ever. Period. So i like to see people have success with the things i can only dream of doing. It was a good shot, andante, just the speed became too much to overcome and that first map offered you no forgiveness. Also just beat ff9 for the first time about a month ago. Played a bit when i was younger but i really procrastinated getting back to it. I like the classic style FF.

Wow, that was a fantastic game. Unless i'm mistaken, that's corosar's first team refined to a point, and they are surprisingly effective. Great job, beating any of shintroy's teams isn't an easy feat. Action packed from start to finish, i definitely enjoyed this one. The meatbone slash was a welcome sight.

The fuck was that?! I haven't seen such a bad sandbag loop since derpstock 2015.

That aside, undead/anti undead is very powerful in the current meta. The only counter is holy water, which is usually the first thing cut when over JP and refute which is semi-reliable at best. Being able to shut down the entire white magic skillset (which is still the best for sandbaging) is borderline OP.

I'm definitely a fan, mudvayne. they have a clear goal and do their jobs well.
also of note: lancer has to be the best itembot in the game. Easy access speed gear, heavy armor and the potential to do damage no matter the multiclass just makes them THE class for an armored item bot. Paladins ain't got shyt on that.

CRAZY! Kudos to TL for thinking to pit these two teams against each other, it was a blast to watch. Awesome unit compositions, i particularly like the dual chiri undead quickening paladin (whoa mouthful) but both teams' concepts as a whole are rock solid. Both teams lacking in the sandbag category, but that's not a huge deal, watching two teams brawl it out is more exciting than watching sandbag loops anyway. GG guys, looking forward to seeing these teams in action again.

Mudvayne

Wow, sorry for that Barren! Other than the stall fest, I do like how this team performed. I've made some edits to the team, so I think now it will function even better. GG Lakitu!

I've made some edits to 'We Love The Undead' since that match and I'd love to see those edits in action if anyone could record a match for me.

Andrew

Hey, sorry about that... I'll be changing the silk robes to brigandines.  Thanks again for using one of my teams in a recorded match!

That round one had so much back-and-forth!  I was scared that your bards were going to collect enough Speed to eventually double-turn my units... scary stuff.  Seems like your mime could deal some great double punches to 70 Brave units... I hope to see that in the future.  Aegis shield for MVP?  Yikes, those guards.  Also, your Lich was pretty heroic.  GG!

Thanks for the matches Barren. I really appreciate that!!

Vs. Andrew- Now that the tournament is over and gone, I can change that Mime into what I really want...a talk skill mime. I didn't have much of a choice since I was displaying what my SCC tournament team would be if Mimes were allowed. Normally, I'd can the team but I like this team and how it functioned, and think it can be pretty good if the Mime stayed back a bit and actually...well...didn't die in the first round or two. GG.

Vs. Mudvayne- The Zombie/Undead kill is really hard to pull off, so I commend you for creating a decent team with this concept. On fast/evasive units, it's even tougher since your odds of hitting or inflicting Zombie with a proc is low. 7% was kinda funny. In any case, GG.

Vs. Shintroy- Very interesting units all the way around. Yeah, that Mediator not being un-petrified in round 1 hurt him bad. Round 2...once my Summoner got petrified I knew I was likely done for. I might need to raise the faith on that dancer...70% Raise 2 is just not good enough. Lancer, possibly too though I think I'm okay there with Dragon Spirit. GG.

themed dark absorb vs balanced team
Went into the video thinking it would be even. Wasn't aware I posted the wrong version of the team though. With or without shadow shade it looks like its in silentkaster's favor since he has raise 2 and faster units.

R1 - 3v4 at the start. The only chance I had at making this a close match was landing petrify. GJ to silentkaster and RNG for not allowing that nonsense.
R2 - Weird round. The oracle didn't go for petrify as much as he could have. Probably due to the 12 speed lancer. Unlucky round for silentkaster with bio 3 and dancer not being able to OHKO the thief.
R3 - Charm gg
Would've been more interesting with shadow shade. Still fun to watch.

Thanks for the match Barren. Couldn't decide between abandon and awareness. Awareness would fit the character more, but I picked abandon since there'd be little need for awareness if I had shadowshade combos on large and medium maps.
Some day my people will be free.

Another great video, barren!

V. Andrew:
What a great match, really could have gone either way. You never cease to impress me, Andrew. I happen to be a fan of twins, most my teams involve a twin of some sort. Super hard to kill with all that sandbag potential and samurai as armored casters. As far as silentkaster's mime goes, perhaps he could benefit from move -1. The enemy tends to move towards you anyway, so you'll get whatever reraises you would have had anyway with a raise in there somewhere. You really just want him to get some good mimics before going down anyway, right? Fun team, great show.

V. Mudvayne: Really tough match up for mudvayne here. Zombie really isn't potent compared to magic that does good damage, and it is most effective on a heavily defensive unit that can't do decent damage otherwise. I understand using faith on the oracle is there to boost petrify, but it's a bad deal. Once she goes down, they'll go into sandbag mode and everything could fall apart from there. Still, a great team, just needs a tweak on that oracle specifically. I think a book would be nice on her. Great job silentkaster, really punished every mistake without letting up. Solid team.

V. Shintroy: Definitely a fan of vampire based teams. Favourite novel is bram stoker's Dracula and my favourite anime is hellsing (I know, just gore and gun porn, shut up it's beautiful) I would have made alucard a male undead mediator as well. Not so sure about stone gun though. I'm confused as to why silentkaster's didn't go for esuna round 2 on the summoner.. still probably shintroy's round, but that could be a problem in the future. I mean.. she has ONE job..

Great display of team design, silentkaster. Always a thrill to watch your teams in action.

I knew I was in trouble when I saw my units move first. Good, thorough stomping.

Thanks Barren for all the vids!

That stream was a lot of fun, CT5!  Those 3~ hours flew by, as there were a lot of fun moments throughout!  I look forward to the next one!  Thanks again.

Got my can kicked big time!  Truth be told, I wish that my monks used Frog more often, and you were right about giving them Poison being a mistake (I've already made adjustments based on that).  Map 3 was the last nail in the coffin for my team, heh.  Regardless, I really like your new team, especially your archer.  Maybe you could use Reraise to make-up for only having one revival unit?  I know that this would force your paladin to not use his Talk Skill as often, but I think its pros outweigh the cons.  GG!

I'm sorry... I just wanted to see my Episode 02 be recorded at least once, LOL.  This will probably be the only time I'll see it being used, and I completely understand why (even *I* wouldn't want to see it in recorded matches often).  Arm Aim is a skill that I fear deeply, and I think if you managed to spread it around more often, I would have lost the first two matches (especially since they were small maps).  My favourite unit of yours is the paladin, since he's capable of great defence and decent offence (probably my favourite type of unit).  GG!

I think poison's best usage imo is anti-sandbag that proceeds through reviving, stall tactic to make the opposing team waste turns curing it, and I also like the repel knife/poison combo.

Upon watching it the 2nd time, in Barren vs Reks, that Geomancer's Elemental indeed did 79 damage first time and 91 second time with same Kamaitachi, no MA boosting or elemental difference. Anyone warrant a guess why that happened??? Weird.

could be a weather effect. Like it was thundering out, and maybe the wind had a increase in damage? Dunno, just pulling it from the hat I suppose

TrueLight

Strange. Maybe it's just a bug? Now that I think about it, I have been noticing some numbers being off recently. I'll try to find some examples to show.

I don't think so. I believe FFM removed the elemental boosting from weather in Arena.

does elemental crit?
Nope.
  • Modding version: PSX

Kurosabes

91 was the regular damage, 79 is the odd one here.

This reminds me of some other game where you could have opposite of crits (failures) and do less damage than you were supposed to.

Was it on the same target my geomancer hit? Or was it a mimes elemental? If so then it may be a bug

It happened on the first turn.

Reks chemist moves forward, attempts Arm Aim on the Geo. Counter Flood (Kamaitachi) for 79. Geo waits in place and uses Elemental (Kamaitachi) on the Chemist for 91 damage

Then Mime mimics for 79 78 damage

I think I figured out.

Counter Flood probably calculates Fury.

Geo is 48 Brave, Chemist has 70.

His regular damage is 91

(48 + 35) * (70 + 35) / 10000

0.8715

Multiply that by 91 = 79.3065 which rounds to 79

Interesting. I did not notice that when I watched the replay. It's most likely a coding exploit in the patch where normal geomancy does more damage than counter flood. Not sure how that happened. Definitely something to be fixed next version

If your math is right white knight then we need to mention that in the geomancy formula
