Templar- You could use Crusader sprite

Yeah. Et pretty much decided on Templar and the Crusader sprite. At least he told me this.

Sprites Still Needed
Male Freelancer:
I was thinking a very basic sprite, like the female cadet is. Nothing fancy, no cape or anything. Just basic. That is what the Freelancer is, afterall.

Female Paladin:
Something akin to the current female Knight sprite, but a little more armored. The cape can stay, unless it looks bad with the armor or something.

Male Berserker:
A feral looking sprite, wearing only fur covering the groin and buttocks.

Female Berserker:
Again, feral wearing fur, covering her breasts, groin, and buttocks. Think Ayla, but without the tail.

Male Viking:
Like this image: http://images.wikia.com/finalfantasy/im ... Viking.jpg (http://images.wikia.com/finalfantasy/images/4/44/Ingus_the_Viking.jpg) but without as much detail, and a more fierce-looking head/portrait.

Male Psion:
I want to try something very different here and go for an exotic, futuristic looking sprite. Futuristic and cold looking. White robe, visor covering their face etc. I'd be very happy if they were made as cold-looking as possible.

Female Psion:
Twin started a concept of this already with a robe and visor, but I don't think he was happy with the visor. The female Psion's robe can be purple to differentiate from the male's, and perhaps she could wear boots or something? A good reference for this is FFX-2's Psychic Dressphere: http://images3.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb2 ... sychic.jpg (http://images3.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20100208084152/finalfantasy/images/thumb/0/03/FFX2psychic.jpg/432px-FFX2psychic.jpg)

Male Necromancer:
A pale man wearing purple robes and grey hair, whose eyes are red. I envision him as being a zombie-looking, demonic-looking mage. Because that's basically what he is.

Female Necromancer:
Robed, pale woman wearing purple and black robes with long, grey hair (a la Ajora's). Red eyes as the male, but possibly some other feature to differentiate her?

Male Performer:
I don't really have a vision for this one. Maybe a spruced up Bard?

Male Alchemist:
Not sure about the face, but I'd like to see the FFTA/A2's Alchemist robe be used on the sprite. Reference is here: http://images.wikia.com/finalfantasy/im ... hemist.jpg (http://images.wikia.com/finalfantasy/images/7/7b/Ffta-nu-mou-alchemist.jpg)

Female Alchemist:
Unlike the male alchemist, I was thinking this sprite could be based off of the human Illusionist sprite in FFTA/A2. Reference: http://images.wikia.com/finalfantasy/im ... ionist.jpg (http://images.wikia.com/finalfantasy/images/5/5b/TA2-HumeIllusionist.jpg) It looks a little nature-y, I guess, but that can probably be changed fairly easily.

Female Scholar:
I know Kage hates this design, but I think if it was made younger that it'd be awesome: http://images4.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb2 ... px-Hal.jpg (http://images4.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20080705150418/finalfantasy/images/thumb/6/65/Hal.jpg/200px-Hal.jpg)

Male Harbinger:
Something like this, but with less detail: http://images.wikia.com/finalfantasy/im ... Knight.jpg (http://images.wikia.com/finalfantasy/images/6/63/LOV_Dark_Knight.jpg)

Female Harbinger
Something akin to a reverse Agrias. Swapped palette for something darker, and a more fierce-looking head/portrait.

Templar (Male only):
Crusader sprite.

Assassin (Female only):
Kage's working on a concept.

Quinn (Ecclesian Sage):
As with the normal Sage class (which I forgot to list), something like this garb: http://images1.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb2 ... S_Sage.jpg (http://images1.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20090101175246/finalfantasy/images/thumb/2/22/FFIIIDS_Sage.jpg/320px-FFIIIDS_Sage.jpg)

Rad:
Combination of a Squire's body, a Knight's head, and a modified Archer's portrait.

Sorry for my inactivity. Once I find more time, I will work on Assassin more, so far I got forward and back frames done(including walking). I also started to work on Bahamut sprite, but I dunno if you will want it.

I think for templar you should use a crusader with Vicks head, that helmet makes the crusader looks like a silver dildo.
Title: Re: FFT: Parted Ways Sprites
Post by: Eternal on December 30, 2010, 11:21:40 pm
Agreed. I really don't like the helm at all. Should be a simple enough headswap.

LMAO.
knight's head stuck on crusaders armor in a port would be sexy too.

For male Psion should be a custom Oracle's robe with some bright colours like a light blue and a darker white for details, for head I was thinking in a male archer with Uni-glasses like cyclops from X-men but instead of red glass it might be blue or use the reference.
Title: Re: FFT: Parted Ways Sprites
Post by: Eternal on January 03, 2011, 10:57:23 am
The uniglasses are a good idea that I presented to Twin before, but he said they'd be really hard to implement. And yeah, I agree with you on the robe. I'm thinking a very cold color, like white, would fit their "personality".

Also, this is weird. I posted a response to this back on New Year's, but the post didn't seem to stick. :o

First time posting for this wonderful project, and I come bearing a gift. A humble attempt at a portrait for Rad. If you don't want it, that's fine. If you'd like any changes, modifications, etc, let me know and I'll get it done as best I can.

Good luck, friends!

Indeed it is very nice, but maybe you could change his clothes? Something that won't make him look like Archer's body. Up to you and Et though.
Title: Re: FFT: Parted Ways Sprites
Post by: mav on January 05, 2011, 01:06:01 pm
Yes, I can happily change the clothing a bit. Just give a little direction and we can get this thing done.
Title: Re: FFT: Parted Ways Sprites
Post by: Eternal on January 05, 2011, 01:13:05 pm
Perhaps use some Squire clothing? The original concept of Rad was an Archer's face, Squire's body, and Knight's cape.
Title: Re: FFT: Parted Ways Sprites
Post by: Kagebunji on January 05, 2011, 01:25:05 pm
I think some custom clothes could be nice, but I am sure Et won't want him to look too fancy or anything. Well, let's just wait for next version.

Ok, I did something for Female Assassin portrait, but Mav or some other skilled portraiter will have to help me out. It would be best if you took it over and fix it, since I really am still learning about shading on FFT portraits. So, here it is:

Well here's a quick edit to Rad. He's looking a little too generic now though, in my opinion. Lemme try my hand at cleaning up this assassin.

Title: Re: FFT: Parted Ways Sprites
Post by: Eternal on January 05, 2011, 02:43:28 pm
Any way you can turn that white into a "dirtier" color for Rad? White seems a little too clean for a mercenary, IMO. Maybe a brown or something, but that leaves the collar. Meh, I trust you with color choice. :P
Title: Re: FFT: Parted Ways Sprites
Post by: Kagebunji on January 05, 2011, 03:14:11 pm
That's awesome Mav, I  guess I will ditch the bandana on the rest of the head then, though it is on sprite, so I kinda wanted to attach it to portrait too. Anyway, thanks for help, I will change around the eyebrows, and I quess she will be done. If I am not mistaken, you added some shading above the mask, obviously made bandana smaller, and erased the bandana on the hair, yes?

As to Rad, it's awesome, I personally would go for a dark, dirrty gray color, not brown, like the portrait Smash  once did for Katelyn. Up to you pal.

Yes on all those things. Oh, I wasn't aware that the sprite had a particular look, I can work on making a better-looking bandanna that's still visible.

As for Rad, here's brown. I'm currently using three greens--if I make the shirt/collar brown I will probably be able to make a dirty gray version, as per Kage's suggestion. If you've seen the original Minwu palette, that's probably what I'd go for. Check out the brown one first though.

Any other sprites done that need portraits?

Hair was based off of fang from FFXIII, and im sure you could do a "sari" fairly easy mav :)

Hmm, making this hair look messier might be tough. Good reference pic though, twinees. I'll see what I can do. What about her eyes and mouth, how would you like those to look?

EDIT: Err...

Really nice portraits guys. the bandanna on the beautiful Assassin seems misaligned.
Title: Re: FFT: Parted Ways Sprites
Post by: Twinees on January 06, 2011, 11:15:03 pm
Eyes and mouth would probably need Eternal's input on that. Could the sari possibly only go over one shoulder? so one shoulder would be completely bare.

You may have to make it so whole strands of hair, rather than little frizzy bits sticking out.
Title: Re: FFT: Parted Ways Sprites
Post by: mav on January 07, 2011, 12:01:15 am
Thanks for pointing out the bandanna issues, Lijj. I felt that way too. If Kage doesn't fix it, I'll do it. As for the Elementalist, how are these changes? Note that this isn't reduced colors or at the correct aspect ratio yet. I tried making hair strands and a sari.
Title: Re: FFT: Parted Ways Sprites
Post by: Twinees on January 07, 2011, 12:31:09 am
More strands and possibly longer? And the sari looks better, maybe Eternal could give more input on this portrait.
Title: Re: FFT: Parted Ways Sprites

The only thing about these strands is that they look really strange once the portrait is cropped. I'll see what I can do.

Ah, well portrait wouldn't be a problem, I would steal Twinees's portrait for Isaac and modify it, hehe. But this thing is ditched, I will continue with my older one. I also think about making my original Warrior's hair black.
Title: Re: FFT: Parted Ways Sprites
Post by: Kagebunji on January 09, 2011, 09:06:26 am
Ok, I finished doing some slight chanfes to Assassin portrait. I fixed the shading on bandana(the forehead part), changed part of hair(the part of hair where hair meets the bandana, on far right), changed eyebrows(but I think I will have to change them again), even though I don't like the current eyebrows much. C&C everyone please.
Title: Re: FFT: Parted Ways Sprites
Post by: mav on January 09, 2011, 11:10:03 am
The the part of the bandanna that needed a shading fix was on our right, not over the forehead. That said, it doesn't look bad though. The part where the hair meets the bandanna looks better. I'm definitely not a fan of the new eyebrows. They're too dark and she looks too confused now.
Title: Re: FFT: Parted Ways Sprites

Twinees helped me with the bandana, it looks great now. That said, I will post a new version with different eyevrows some other time(probably tomorrow).

I do have a sprite request for whoever would like to come up with it. I'd kinda like the Berserker to be out of the way. The concept is very simple.

Female: Think Ayla from Chrono Trigger. Barely any clothing, strips of fur covering the important parts. No tail like Ayla has though, that's far too anime. Hair messed up, and tattered.

Male: Like female, but maybe some type of fur draped across his back? I want him to look primal and rugged. I think a good way to express this would be bloodshot eyes somehow in the portrait, but I'm not sure if that amount of detail can be shown in such few pixels.

Anyways, very nice work as usual, guys!

Post by: Kagebunji on January 14, 2011, 02:22:53 pm
Well, plain look was what I imagined for an Assassin, she shouldn't stand out TOO much, she is a silent killer, heh. I could add some details with hair color, but I don't feel it will look good, I have no idea what to add anyway.
Title: Re: FFT: Parted Ways Sprites

Well, I think the hair color's fine, just add something to the clothes. Preferably around the waist.

Ah, Jimmy! You are finally back, man. I hope you will stay for long, hehe.

Female Scholar, I assume. Ok then, her arms seem very thin, especially on higher parts. Whose arms are those? I feel like legs and coat clash together too, too much orange in there. As to the strand of hair next to her right eye, erase it, I tried smae thing once with my Warrior, and it looked really out of place, IIRC Zozma's Miluda had a nice looking strand though, maybe try that one? Let's see whta others have to say.

Kage hit all the nails on the head. What legs are you using anyways? I mean, you can barely see the legs, just those gigantic feet.

Welcome back, Jimmy. We've missed you, man.

Also, don't base her on the concept of that old-lady-with-coat design, it is way worse than FFXI's design. Here is a nice ref:

I dunno if it's just me, but the blue tassel on her hat seems very bright. Maybe it's just a trick of the eye? Otherwise, along with the other crits, it's a very nice-looking start! Glad to see you're back!

That's really nice, I like it! Still glad to see you're back every now and again, Jimmy. Your sprites are awesome to look at. ^_^

Thanks, Eternal. Yeah, I'll drop by from time to time for now; can't fully back yet. Naw, my sprites aren't any special or unique. Just normal sprites with copy/paste from existing.
Unfortunately, I'm above the colour limit; unable to incorporate the red and hair.

EDIT:

Managed to fit in the hair colour, however, loss bit of its details.

Change the tassel on the hat to white. As for which sprite I like the most...It might be the last on on the right, just cause it's easiest on the eyes. Can you make her shorts blue or red on the other versions? Brown around black is just too dark for me. Very nice sprite though. She's got angry eyes, but who cares.

I have to agree with Mav here. A white tassel would look much better, IMO. And yeah, the fifth one is my favorite.

Alright. Here's the blue and red skirt, though note that I'm using only 2 colours. So there's loss of details. Also, is her shoulder preferably clean?

I like the blue one a lot. This is an interesting sprite. I can't wait to see the other angles.

Something about this sprite's face is really throwing me off, are the eyes too low or something?

Also I fell like a long dress would look much better on this sprite.

Great to have you back btw Jimmy :D.

I think the hat is too high not the eyes,Cheetah. And the skirt is fine but the left arm ( the one facing us) needs some shadows in the upper part. This sprite is amazing, Jimmy.

I think I prefer the red one, to be honest. The blue looks great on the skirt, but I don't like it on the shoulderpads, whereas the red model you made blends perfectly with each part of the sprite, if that makes sense.

@mav ~ Thanks. Or would you like to try some other choices of colours? You're great with palettes.

@Cheetah ~ I feel the same too. The one with coat seems better. And thanks ^_^

@Wolfran ~ Yeah, the hat a pixel or two higher. Ah yes, the arm, thanks. And thanks.

@Eternal ~ Yeah, I like the blue because it looks good on the skirt. Unfortunately, I'm only able to choose one. That, or sacrifice the white.

Looks great Jimmy.
I think the lightest black colour could probably be a slight bit lighter, and is the sprite 16 colours?
Anyway great job.

Hat seems too small for her head, other than that it is great. I can't give much crits ATM....

Kinda outdated, but the hat does seem to be too high like noted earlier. IS it straight copy of Male Scholar? If you give me permission, I will try to edit the hat and hair a bit, cause I am just curious to see how it would look if the hat was lower.

i was looking at the portrait of the Assassin and something seemed off and i realized the mask wasn't really the right shape.  Even tho the FFT portraits don't have noses, the mask would still be stretched over the bridge of her nose making it look more angular.  Here's a quite paint over of it.  The third I added a little shading to show there's a nose there... not sure if it's better with or without the shadow, so I posted both.  Also tweaked a single pixel near her hair so it looks like it's not going over her ears.

The mask hanging on her non-existant nose is not making sense though, I would agree if the portrait had a nose, but now it is just weird, no matter how you look at it. That's just the style.

really? i thought the over-the-nose was a big improvement. the under-the-nose just looked weird to me.

This error can actually be caused by emulators, as it reads the file one pixel off. However, it is easily fixed by putting an additional horizontal line of the background color. I believe this doesn't interfere with any other animations. Alternatively you can make the portrait background color equivalent to the solid black of the sprite sheet.

Lately I came across a really great site with loads of FFT fan artwork. There are some nice, inspiring concepts to be found, so I wondered if I should share those. Here is a small example:

A knights of some sorts(on the site labeled as young Balbanes, but I tihnk the one in brighter hair might be Orlandu)
http://i55.tinypic.com/154dno9.jpg

A witch?(minus the schoolgirl uniform)
http://i53.tinypic.com/2ilipz9.jpg

If anyone will attempt to do some concept, I will gladly finish it(like I did with Cyan, teamworking with Twinees). Some of those concepts are really worth it IMO.

EDIT: I just couldn't leave this, I kinda like this concept

Reuploaded and fixed my last post. Should be fine now.

Another one I found, looks nice for an Assassin of some sorts:

I actually like the school uniform witch, it would be good for a base-job magic user if chemist gets kicked out, or a unique magic-user.

I love the first picture because it's very solid and polished in design. For the witch, I'd definitely strip the cape and change the schoolgirl uniform to something a little more "witch-like." You could probably with the hat, loafers, and add in a cleaner looking outfit rather than "schoolgirl 'n' cape."

Oh, well *blinks, blinks*, what I've meant for update is to know what in that list has been made already, or all of that is still missing? Knowing what's missing is what I want to know. :D So I can focus on something and start, feverishly and having spasms, spriting stuff here and there.

EDIT

Hum...got interested on Necromancers... *derp grin*

Hey, Willy! Welcome to FFH! Thanks for contributing! My suggestion would be to also post this on the Spriting forum. The spriters there are very talented and will be able to guide you through FFT spriting and help you continue to make sprites. Even simple headswaps are a great start. :)

PW is on hiatus until I finish the other, less time-consuming projects I'm working on, but it's a cool looking sprite!
