Hello I'm new to the forum. I wanted to contribute to the website, seeing as I am an ametuer sprite artist. I have decided to make a Necromancer sprite. I'm using marquis elmdor's sprite and giving it a more evil look. tell me what you think.

Your avatar looks cool. The necromancer does not however. It only looks like a mildy recolored Elmdor. If you are going to continue using the sprite I would suggest a change in hairstyle.

Maybe change the style of his cape to. My suggestion make is look like half a cloak. Draped over one side of his body.
Oh pitiful shadow lost in the darkness, bringing torment and pain to others. Oh damned soul wallowing in your sin, perhaps...it is time to die

or you could just make it look like a necromancer.
I never learn from my mistakes.

Well, sprite artists are always in demand here, but I think, but this sprite's gonna need some work. Right now it looks like Elmdor got a couple black eyes...I assume it's a work in progress, so keep working at it.

Thanks for the constructive criticism!

I changed it up a bit, gave him the side cloak like you said and gave him a skull mask. Hope this one is better.

Make his hair brown and he'd be Casey Jones in a funny outfit.

Really though, I like the skull shoulders. Hair does need a change, though. And that mask idea might be more trouble than it's worth.

And finally, that cape style is really, really damn hard to pull off for every frame (I've tried something similar myself). I suggest moving a cape from some other sprite instead of making a new one.

Still a nice looking avatar.

The cape could be made to flow better. I sense that it has excellent potential for casting animations.

If you are going to do the mask maybe make his hair more gothic, or bald.

Kaijyuu made some good points: if you're gonna plan on making this a full, working sprite, you need to take every frame and pose into consideration. It won't be impossible, but it'll be tough. This is why I stick to doing lame portraits. :>

Anyhow, this is shaping up: it looks a lot more unique, perhaps you should fiddle with the colors to get some more contrast?

Ok, I changed the hair to black and spiky. The cloak thing looks too cool for me to take it off, it'll just take a bit more to make all the animations. The mask isnt a problem for me, I've already done something like this on another sprite, so I'm gonna leave that.

Here's the updated pic

Honestly, I preferred the old hair. This hair looks a little strange--it lacks dimension and doesn't have the same style as most other FFT sprites. Likewise, the mask looks like it needs some more shading, check out the Skeletons for reference.

I agree if you are going to do spikey hair in that style take a note from Kenpachi Zaraki.

Also I am not too sure on this but the legs look a little weird.

Quote from: "AlphaBetaGammaDelta"The first one looks like Sepheraph LOL.
I assume you mean Sephiroth.

Anyways this sprite needs some work although I do like the skull accessories. Take Darth's advice and base his hair off of Kenpachi's hair for spiky hair.

I could be touched up on but it is turning out nicely.

Try some different poses, then work on touch up to make it flow nicely.
