Wait wait wait, so your saying I don't have to do both the blue bar copy/paste hex and the xml patch insert? Its just the xml patch insert? If that is the case I completely misunderstood the process and no wonder I have had so many issues. I guess the blue bar thing in the Excel sheet always made me think I had to do it that way!

I don't know what the Gameflow Editor is. I have always used the Ravens Workbook stuff. I didn't notice the Attack.OUT inside it, I always just pulled out the Attack.OUT from the game itself. Is there a difference between the two?

Thank you for your help Elric and you have helped me out several times in the past. I just get confused as there are so many little things that have to be done just right.

Maybe just posting in the forum turns the light bulb on for me I don't even know.

I think the issue is specifically with the 010 Hex editor.

When using ctrl + shift + v --> the editor pastes in ascii into the address. There is no need to take the XML from the spreadsheet and patch using FFTorgASM. Doing so will actually cause the game to crash loading any event at all.

I now have a working event in between a story event. The location is red and stepping on it calls all the right scripts. The event itself is written like a mess and needs a lot of work. But considering how much trouble I had to get to this point I will take the win.

I have a similar question but this time regarding to the ATTACK.OUT battle conditions editor.

I am not able to correctly paste the hex and use the XML in FFTORGASM to modify the ATTACK.OUT

I am missing a step and I cannot remember or figure out what it is. I have done this correctly before but it was months ago.

Just to make sure that this isn't an unrelated issue I have tried this on an unmodified game with an unmodified version of the Xifanie spreadsheet. I know I am screwing up steps with the file modification itself.

I have also read through http://ffhacktics.com/smf/index.php?topic=6694.0 and a several other forums but I am not finding an answer to what I am doing wrong.

Any help would greatly be appreciated thanks!!!

Well I figured it out and it was something silly that I forgot to do.

Once the WLDCORE is edited, I forgot to take the XML from the spread sheet and then put it into the patcher. No wonder why it didn't work.

Oh well, I still have to find something I can safely remove to add my one line that I need. If anyone has input on that I would be all ears though!

I have what I hope to be a simple question with regards to pasting into WLDCORE using the World Map Editor.

Any time I modify the WLDCORE the game crashes trying to load any event. I am doing something wrong but I don't know what. I have also had no problems doing the same thing with the ATTACK.OUT Battle Event Conditions editor and have gotten custom events to work.

Using a completely unmodified version of the Xifanie World Map 1.00 Editor from the Raven Books.

I copy the blue bar as normal then open WLDCORE using 010 Hex Editor, use a goto command and search 30234 as the address, then Paste with Overwrite selected as the insert option.

The thing is, even unmodified the pasted content looks completely different than what was in there before. The hex numbers are different and the conversion on the right to characters is completely different.

Hopefully what I am doing wrong is obvious as I am at a loss.

Thanks as usual for any help that anyone can provide.

Ok so one last thing as I have figured out exactly what caused the error, thanks to Elric who gave me the TacText advice.

I changed the name of several characters in my party using cheat codes, specifically of course to name them after friends and such (and not nearly as harmless as I thought)

This apparently breaks their ability to speak during propositions and freezes the game. This of course is not fixable as I do not know what their original names are and I would have to delete all of them and hire new ones.

This particular instance wasn't TacText, but without thinking specifically about the game calling text being the problem, I wouldn't have thought of the fact that I changed the character's names possibly causing an issue.

Thanks again for the help and I just wanted to give you guys my findings in case anyone in the future was having this issue.

And that is precisely why I brought it up here.

I probably screwed up something in tactext that is un-repairable without a brand new save state to work with.

Well thanks again Elric as always and another thank you for Xifanie as well. You both are great and Ill just work on this later with clean saves.

So I found my other 2 copies since I have 3 physical discs total. One of which is nearly brand new without any major scratches.

I just tried the one in very good condition with the exact same problem showing up, and its too specific for me to believe that 3 different physical media copies could be damaged in the same exact way.

I do have a physical PS1, but it may take a day or 2 to find my memory card with FFT data on it (since you can't do props in ch1), but I will do so just to 100% confirm that this is not an issue with my game discs.

Very interestingly, I found someone that had the exact same issue a long time ago. He was unable to fix it though sadly

Unfortunately I still got the error when booting directly from a physical CD itself with a different ISO.

I then wanted to test the input and switched from a Bluetooth controller to a keyboard. Still no luck.

I also attempted another emulator with no success.

I really don't understand it, but I think it must be something I am setting incorrectly

First things first, I am still getting this problem without any mod and only using the base ISO. Still, I am hoping that someone in here has heard of this issue happening to someone else before.

Any time I go to click on report job for any proposition, the character text box pops up and then instantly disappears without showing anything. The game then sits with the music playing indefinitely until I shut it down.

In addition, when characters cast spells, the text box that sometimes pops up when they say thier "cast text" also disappears instantly.

I am currently using ePSXe with:
Pete's OpenGL2 GPU core 2.0.0 video plug in


I have tried messing with many of the CPU and Video setting without any success. Any help at all would be appreciated greatly as google has sadly not provided any answers that I could find.

Sorry for the bump, however, there where some issues with the Heaven Knight sprite and I fixed those issues for my game and wanted to share the time savings for others.

I wanted to use this as my chap 4 sprite but noticed a few issues with the sprite.

1. The walking animation with the cape was too large and caused parts of the cape to show up in the wrong animations.

2. The kneeling cast animation also had parts of the cape show up as the sprite next to it was also too large.

3. The portrait did not show up correctly as the colors where using 18 instead of 16, causing parts of the portrait to show up white.

4. I made other minor alterations to include more detail on the belt as well as adding more length/detail to the blue tunic in the back of the model.

5. Many sections inside the model where originally black pixels, instead of the dark grey that everything else uses. This made odd parts of the body and inside cape area transparent. I changed these black pixels to dark grey, so that none of the model is transparent.


Hopefully this will help anyone wanting to use this sprite in the future that would have noticed some of those issues and not want to spend the time dealing with them as I did.

It also took me several hours since I am not even a spriter.

Ok so I figured out the problem. I came across another random topic where Elric told someone that you cannot use the tutorial events in ATTACK.OUT.

Although I still seem to be having a different issue, I can elaborate on that tomorrow. The main issue of the map glitching out is solved.

The event scripts are just copied and pasted in my first post under the spoilers.

I have pics of the attack.out stuff as well as the numbers I used Event Battle Conditions Spreadsheet are the in the next post.

I didn't say anyone had to watch the video. I don't mind posting any pics of stuff that people would need if they wanted to help.

I also added the ENTD, which should be everything.

Elric,

Sorry I thought the Battle Event scripts are what I put in my first post, so I have no idea. I am not sure what the GUI and Condition settings for ATTACK.OUT are other than what I have already posted.

If anyone would like any other specific information please let me know!!!

One last update if it helps at all.

When the map loads, Ramza is already selected with his action menu up ready to go, which I found pretty odd.
Using the UnitAnim command I was able to make everyone else stand stil, but Ramza is still walking with his action menu up

This is all BEFORE the victory conditions are displayed.

So maybe whatever is breaking the event is what is also causing this weird issue

Ok so small update!!

I accidentally had the Adramelk victory pointing to 19B instead of 19A, which was skipping the Setup event entirely.

Although its still not working, the event does something different!!

Its still blinking in and out black, but at the beginning the camera spins a bit, the victory conditions actually do appear, and then it quits out back to the main map without doing anything else.

So I think that Event script got setup correctly, but maybe something is wrong with the camera or something else in the scripts... Still not sure

So unfortunately I am still having the same problem. Ill will just post what I have done so far because clearly I am still missing something.

1. I first added two lines in the "ES" column within the Battle Conditions Editor. I took the lines from one of the standard battles "Finath River" (no guests & defeat All enemies), and then changed the event pointer to 411 and 412.

Column ES
0100FD01010019009B01  ------> (0100FD0101001900) Start of Battle + (9B01)  Event 411 which is the battle event.
160019009C01 -------> 1600 (Killed all flag) + 1900 (Play next event) + 9C01 Event 412 victory event.

2. I then clicked the blue bar and copied it. Opened 010 Hex editor (ATTACK.OUT). Pressed CTRL G to insert at 14938. And then CTRL SHIFT V to overwrite as ASCII.

3. Opened ATTACK.OUT with the editor and changed the Event Script pointer to 92, the last one in the list was 91 so I think that is what you meant.
----->which I added as attachments.

4. Used CD MAGE to insert the new ATTACK.OUT

Now other events still play correctly. I temporarily attached it to the end of the Adremelk events which all play correctly. So if I screwed something up with inserting things into the Hex editor, it didn't break anything else.

Maybe Ill get lucky and I messed up something super simple and obvious but who knows.

Thanks, I have stared at this too long.

I was trying to get it to work with a simple defeat all enemies. I have not even started trying to edit victory conditions.
