Quote from: "Zodiac"Ramza 1: Very good, maybe too anime style-looking.
Ramza 2: Looks really worried... which I don't think what was you were going for. Check the mouth a bit in any case, the shading makes it weird.
Delita 1: Looks exagerated, his eyebrows are way too wide.
Delita 2: Very good.
Dycedarg: Looks D:<, *yawn* and dying at the same time.

for delita one, okay, I'll fix his brows.
ramza 2, I'll fix the shading on the mouth (or change it)

Yeah. Dyce = D:<

Quote from: "mav"

Hmm.. Used the Legendary Magnifier:
mav, I think the shades below the eyes look like a scar..

EDIT:
1. Angry Cadet Ramza
2. Sad Ramza type1
3. Sad Ramza type2
4. Ramza wondering/surprised/horrified a bit
5. Sad Delita
6. Angry Delita
7. Angrier Dycedarg
8. Algus clear face NO MORE
9. Gaffy angry NO MORE!

Is there a limit with portraits in-game?

Shouldn't the shadowy Algus be like... more shadowy?

QuoteAh, where Algus's eyes are at least shadowed over, so you never get a clear look at him, so to speak.

That's what I did, at least.
Hmm..

Also, I don't think there is a portrait of Ramza's mother. Did someone make one or did it already exist?
If there isn't one I'd suggest taking the portrait for the 40 year old woman and making it look more like Alma.

Yep, everything looks good, as I got your message on IRC, you'll probably take care of that when you get back. Though yes, Vanya has the right idea Algus to Ramza represents everything wrong with the current way of things, therefore his face is shadowed to show, to Ramza he's much larger then simply Algus, a stuck up brat.

With the sad Ramzas, you gotta get rid of the shadow beneath his lips. It looks too blurry and just makes his face look dirty. Likewise give angry Ramza an extra pixel near his mouth to make him look like he has a scowl (like my avatar or Algus's face). And without a precedent for open-mouth portraits, I dunno what to tell you about surprised Ramza and super mad Dycedarg.

Quick warning for shadowy Algus: you gotta keep the light source consistent on him. Vanya certainly has the right idea, but make sure what's happening in the portrait is physically possible. Maybe someone like Asmo (who seems to understand shading quite well) can explain what to do.

I love that you're doing this LD; it'll really make the patch shine.

I fully agree that the Algus shading is very important, especially for what he represents and I really like your new Teta portrait, it will fit all too wonderfully for the scene! Also yes, that was one of my goals from the start, but when I decided to make it a 4 part patch, I realized that I had 56 x 4 portraits I can put in, and that seems More then enough for what I want to do.

Good stuff; there are a couple aesthetic choices that I'd have done differently, but let's hear what the others think before I start spewing my suggestions.

Hmm, for Lady Ruglia I was thinking of something like this...

For Algus I had hoped his eyes above all else would be shaded and unseeable, if possible of course. Sad and smug Algus is interesting, but unfortunately I don't think there will be room to use that in.

Ah yes, that's what I was looking for! It really gives him a dark and "larger than life" feel. After all, Ramza only sees him in memories, and in that he's an unconquerable opponent that broke down everything he had believed in. I feel this is a fitting representation for him.

Yes, but what's important is that Algus is only seen in a dream state, therefore things that wouldn't normally be possible with lighting and the likes are, since well... it's only a dream, the symbolic touch is much more important then realism.

Hmm, yeah, I might edit some of the portraits soon. You did the most challenging work: redrawing the eyebrows, etc, I'll just sweep in and polish.

Oh and as far as Algus goes, I compare it to how directors utilize lighting in their films to create seemingly impossible silhouettes, shadows, and things of that nature. It's not completely "fair", but they're not trying so much to convey truth as to convey image, idea, mood, etc.
