If you have any questions about making or adding sprites, or anything sprite related for that matter, please take the time to read the topics that already exist or post your questions here and we will re-direct you. To the topic with the answers.

We have had far too many new topics made lately asking questions that have already been answered. From now on, these duplicate questions will be removed.  Please keep that in mind before creating any new topics in this section. Suggestions for improving this section are always welcome.

You are welcome to ask questions here if you are unsure where to find answers.

For those of you who aren't new. I ask that you please do not spam the topic with warnings to our newcomers as they are entitled to the same experience we enjoy on this wonderful site.

And remember. The best place to share your completed sprites is to subit them here: http://www.ffhacktics.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=405

Thank you,

Is there a program that allows you to view your sprite in the manner it would animate in FFT without patching your ISO and testing it?

Who are the FFTactics characters that you usually overite custom sprites over? I am looking for characters that have are available for UNIT.BIN, WLDFACE.BIN and BATTLE.BIN so that I may be able to overwrite over their portraits, formation screen sprite and battle sprites. So far i have one person in mind: SOURYO the priest you see at the ending scene since I figured he is not part of the main storyline... Thanks!

well all ya have to do is scroll through both and match up and any sprite that has a both a unit and a worldface and those are the ones to overwrite or just go with one of the face characters

you have to give up something to get what you want

in my case i used the guests sprites (and put their actual sprites in dupes of other characters linked to the same menu sprites)

in my patch guests NEVER appear on the menu at all. so i was able to use the  slot for Algus, to add my custom Miluda for  an example. then i put the real algus sprite into something thats kind of useless to me, like 33 zombie zalbag

this does, however, require a bit of entd editing as well.

yea i made a mistake with changing algus into a custom so when he left it kept the guest form and got rid of the one i trained

also some funny glitches appeared that made gameplay hilarious like no algus on the field but his lines appearing out of nowhere

yep,

if you cheat which why would you need to with ffh?

then you might have problems here, if i put my miluda which uses 07 job/and sprite

wherever algus was supposed to be, it will look at her first... making it so guests dont appear in the party, solves a big problem tho, with them leaving and removing units. my suggestion is the ppl u add into those slots should only join after the point in the story where those guests are removed.

Ok, I'm trying out Sentinel Blade's tutorial on adding to the Unit.bin but having trouble making a 4 bit sprite in Photoshop.

I have loaded the Wiegraf sprite and pulled the second frame for use.

I created the 24x40 (96dpi) canvas and loaded the previous color table (17 w/ black for trans).

I pasted the sprite onto the canvas and clicked Save As.

Selecting .bmp I got to the options but could only choose down to 8 bit.

Can anyone tell me how and where I have erred?

The color limit is 16 including the black for transparent.

That's really odd that Wiegraf starts with 16 plus transparency then.  I think I figured out what to do when editing Altair.  Thanks for confirming my suspicions.

Sorry to doublepost, I'm getting a slightly different problem now.

I have switched over to Isilud, doing the same thing.  I have his 24x40 (96 dpi) image set with only 16 colors, including black.  I still cannot save out a 4 bit bmp for him.  This is slowly driving me insane.

What program are you using to save it as a 4 bit bmp?

Photoshop.  I had success with CS2 but now issues in CS3.

Okay make sure you change the color type to Indexed. And then set it so that it is 16 colors. Then save it as a bitmap, doesn't really matter about the bit size. Then open up your BMP in Graphics Gale. Change the color depth to 16, this will make it so your palette matches up correctly, and then change it back to 256, so that it can be imported into ShiShi correctly. That should solve all your problems and is the method I use.

Thanks much for the clarification.  I had all of the aforementioned criteria set (indexed, only the top row of colors including black) but could not get 4 bit for the life of me.  I'll try this process with an 8 bit and bring it into Gale and then ShiShi.
