News:

Use of ePSXe before 2.0 is highly discouraged. Mednafen, RetroArch, and Duckstation are recommended for playing/testing, pSX is recommended for debugging.

Help! / Endless Loop

Its been a while since I've been on, but last time I was here someone mentioned an intriguing project they were working on. This project was simple: that the game would restart at the beginning of the story line after you beat the last battle. Is this work still in progress, or is it possibly finished?

No, I use windows. The weird thing about this is that I've already done this before and I had no problem, but now all of the sudden I'm having the problem. I've uploaded the same sprite, although it has been edited since then, to Shishi and it worked fine.

*sigh* Now I seem to have a new problem. I took a break from editing and was going to upload the uncompleted sprite to my ISO so I could see how the changes looked but the BMP won't uninvert. Like your instructions say on this topic, I opened the BMP on Palette editor and clicked Null palette and then exited. Then I uploaded the BMP to Shishi and it still showed inverted. I went ahead anyways and started the game up, entered a battle, and it was inverted. So I went back and resaved the BMP from Gimp and instead of loading it into Palette editor I just uploaded it straight to Shishi. No dice there either. I've tried a multitude of things at this point. What am I doing wrong?

Huh, Gimp must've changed the bit depth for some reason. Anyways, it worked. Thank you  :)

Here it is. It's not quite finished though, but the problem is still there.

Help! / Re: The inverted portrait
May 17, 2012, 11:57:49 am
Thanks man. That really helped a lot. But now I have another question.

Now I know it must be possible to insert new colors into a BMP. I'm editing Ramza's chapter 4 sprite and there's an apparent lack of color. I was using palette editor yesterday and noticed the palette colors. Most of them are black, so I tried to edit one to a red, but then it just highlighted everything on the sprite red. Help?
8
Yes, I'm positive it is. And everything looks fine on it. The only thing I could possibly think of is that it can't read the cape I inserted.
9
I get an error "floating point division by zero." Everything looks fine. The BMP IS 256x488.

Whenever I export a BMP from Shishi and go to edit it the portrait's colors are always inversed. Why? And how can I fix it so that I can edit it?

Help! / Again, the PSP restricts me...
May 16, 2012, 12:42:33 pm
So I've recently got into spriting and I want to have my new sprites work everywhere in the game, not just in battle which is what Shishi only seems to do. I went looking around, talked to some people, and found this tutorial http://ffhacktics.com/smf/index.php?topic=6702.0 on how to completely insert a new sprite, but the tutorial requires Cdprog or Cdmage to complete and they're both for the PSX version. So is there anything else I can use in their stead?

Also...how do you put a hyperlink into words on this website? Total noob question...

Spriting / Re: First time. Tips?

The reason I want to select multiple colors is because I'm going to alter some of the colors with effects instead of going through with a pen and recoloring everything. I was going to select all the blue of the sprite and alter it to look a kind of maroon color.

And thanks for the tutorial. This should help a lot.

So I've downloaded Graphics Gale and I'm doing alright with it since I've taken classes before that required me to use Photoshop, but there's a few things I can't figure out:

- When I use the color selector tool I can only select a color once, very much unlike the magic wand in photoshop. After I make my selection it changes my cursor to a mover tool. How do I click and select multiple colors?
- I decided to use Ramza's chapter 4 sprite but the portrait's colors are inversed. What the heck happened?

I looked around and didn't find the tutorial. I found one on making the sprites themselves, but nothing about importing them.

Help! / Re: The Biggest Flaw Fix?
May 16, 2012, 01:42:17 am
Seems fairly simple and straightforward. Looks like the biggest thing would be just selecting and unselecting the right things, providing you have the proper tools. I haven't gone too in depth with the gaming code in this game, but I would think that the PSP version would be simpler because it's on a smaller platform. But of course it did come out much later than the PSX version did, making it possible that it's more complicated.

Well, would you have any idea where I should start? I really want to do this. I might even post it up on the site if I can finish(if I can even start) this thing.

Spriting / First time. Tips?

I'm going to make a Ramza variant:

- Primary colors red and gold
- Upturned head, confident look (much like Delita's portrait chapters 2-3)
- Cape
- Shorter, better kept hair like his chapter 4 hair

Any tips before I start this? And what program would be best for this? I've heard paint, but I'm not sure...I feel like it's going to be hard.

Also, I have a few questions about Shishi. Before I proceed, know that I use the PSP version.

- What do I do when the sprite file is too big? This happens a lot.
- The new sprite only shows up in battle. What do I have to do to put it into cutscenes, party overview, etc.?

Then I guess I'll start asking more complicated questions and attempt to do this myself. What applications would I need? Again, all I want is to somehow loop the game into letting me start over.

For PSP as well I hope? I run on it.

In my opinion, the biggest flaw in this game is that once you get to the end of the game it's completely over. You should be able to do everything over again. In a lot of games once you beat the game you have the option of starting the story line over again with all of your stats, weapons, etc. Would it be possible to make the game do this? And if so, how?

Help! / Re: how do i use text editor
January 23, 2012, 07:31:55 pm
I hope you're using Quick Edit.... and if you start getting game crashes when a unit dies and crystalizes when they die, you'll need to change the death notification message text.
