Final Fantasy Hacktics

Having never done any hex editing so far, I would like to ask whether I am reading it correctly (definitely a "for dummies" question ).

I have read the Hex Editing Tutorial and whilst it's very clear and helpful, the example it shows is a very simple one-liner one and I get slightly confused when faced with larger modifications.

As an example let's take formerdeathcorps's "Oil takes 2x damage from fire attacks" ASM hack.


So the way I input it, is:

1. Extract Battle.bin file from my .iso and open it
2. Go to > offset: 11F464
3. change 982D428C to B74D0508
4. Go to > offset: EC6DC
5. Enter all the remaining characters one after the other

Correct?

It can be done through the FFTPatcher but it would require manually altering the entry of each enemy character for each of the story battles.

Is this the only way to do that?

Or is there perhaps some code, which could make all enemies in story battles scale by a set amount?
(Don't laugh at me please, I'm new and know nothing about coding )

Also, another question:

What does "Party Level - Random" mean, in the FFTPatcher?

I assume it means that the enemies are party level minus a random number? What is the range of that random number?

I'm Ziggy and Final Fantasy Tactics has always been one of my favourite games ever. But I haven't managed to finish it, when it originally came out. If I remember correctly, I got stuck somewhere without a back-up save. And later, I got sidetracked.

Recently, I wanted to finally come back to it and while doing research on the game online, I managed to come across this amazing website.

I am really astounded to see such an active, vibrant community for a game this old and have been really impressed with all the incredible work you have managed to put out, guys.

I'm very jealous too. My favourite game ever (Brigandine: Grand Edition) hasn't even been translated into English because nobody has yet managed to figure out the coding.

Can't wait to find out even more about your mods and maybe even about hacking the game (although I know nothing about programming so that isn't very likely to happen ).
