I'll give everyone a few days to meet with their teammates and determine unit order, palettes and a team name if you really want one. I'll just use the default unit order and palettes if I don't get a response before I record the matches.

For the actual mini-game, I was thinking of just playing the first three rounds out normally. After everyone plays each other once, I'll give time for the teams to edit one unit before we head to the semi-finals. That sounds cool to everyone?

Oh this will be fun, I'm on a team that has only one reviver. Things should be interesting. As far as editing one's own team member, are we allowed to only do it once?

My team (team two) on the other hand, has every unit with a form of revival :P Though it doesn't look like we'll have great damage output. Maybe Death, Death Sentence and Petrify will pull us through though.

(Guys we need a team name!)

Team 4 looks damn good. Looks like a sure thing with three summon alts and two OHKO units. We even have Sleep and Absorb AOE. Moogle and Carbunkle everywhere.... Our only weakness is status. Dharok, my unit, is the only one with anti status but he's using Salty Rage.

Good luck to everyone else. I'm down for any team name. I think the team order is fine since we don't have haste and Dharok is the only melee unit. Could probably tank for a bit and get dragon spirit off by going first.

Round robin sounds like a good idea TrueLight. Also thanks for picking this random team battle up. So many mages.

I'm thinking of adding another unit edit submission anytime during the first three rounds. This along with the edit opportunity right before the semi-finals if you guys feel one edit is too little to work with. So in total, 2 edits.

Aaaah! Didn't realize people were doing this. Thanks TL for running this, I think it's awesome. I enjoy the mutual dysfunction and the interesting plays that happen due to random limitations. If it were up to me, I'd say NO edits, but I don't mind.

it's hard to believe these teams were randomly selected. The mime reacted perfectly to the abilities, and that thief is some clutch shit. Unfortunately, wish wasn't enough to keep them going for the long haul.

Crystal viper & Hartman BFFL they worked together so well, and THE BUFFS! Even managed an elemental absorb. Gj guys XD

If we were to make 1 change, I think the squire needs to lose the speed gear.

wow the 0HKOs. Incompatibility makes their revival shaky, but as round 2 shows, they can end a match quickly. Very quickly. Like 1.5 rounds quickly. Damn. That sleep + zerk geomancer...
All teams are functioning better than expected and the matches are as close as can be. GJ TL for putting this together!

I agree with no edits, but I think 1 could also be fun.

Crystal Viper + Hartman forever! I just wish Hartman was a little more useful. The -1 speed from Phoenix Blade is more crippling than I thought it would be, and the squire only hasted him once. Though he is still quite the tank, lot's of evade, hp restore, high hp, it's a good combo.

I'm okay with no edits since most users won't be around to make suggestions... I do wish I thought about compat issues though rip.

No idea why this took so long. How were they able to tank so well? Too many questions that'll go unanswered.

GG. I like the silence before the storm moment.

The Damned

(Check this off as one more thing I am now caught up on.)

Thanks for doing this, TrueLight. I didn't expect this go anywhere for several reasons, especially since I figured formerdeathcorps was going to end up rather busy and disappear again, but it's nice to see that this finally got enough people to sign up to kill each other.

I do feel a bit odd that my unit ended up on the team that ended up hogging all of the Summon Magic it seems like, especially since all three of us have Fairy, but that's true randomness for you. Thanks, random.org.

Fellow teammates-slash-victims, if we want a team name, then I personally think we should go with "Dr. D and the Women". We could also use "Three Women and a Barry Berserker" though. Shrug.

Anyway, as far as commentary on the matches so far go:

Well, this took a while, partly because the first round ended up being a 3 v. 3 with a bunch of Charm and Critical and Undead resurrection forestalling things further. Also, Hartman being at 7 Speed did him no favors, especially in that round. Good damage and good coincidental synergy with Kali--even as dubious as I think that unit is--but he's a glacier whose damn was outstripped by pretty much everyone else on the other team, especially since Kagesougi is still so damn stupid.

As such, that Team Two ultimately won because of the Squire who went down pretty much immediately in the first round isn't too surprising. Team Two can't really do much damage--Death doesn't count as "damage" to me-- but between all units having revival and having some type of status removal enabled it to take advantage of the Squire's Death Sentence, which is basically what Team One ended up succumbing to, especially since Team One "only" has two revivers.

I somewhat expected to lose this entire match despite the fact that I think Team Three is the most "weird" one. Everyone on Team Four is squishy, even Dharok since he has no evasion, and his bad Faith (and compat.?) makes it difficult for Fairy to actually resurrect him even if we all have it. On top of that, Serena having Flare as her only form of offense is pretty flawed when she has no method of MP revival save for Carbuncle...despite the fact using Flare enough leaves at 2 MP, which is too little to cast Carbuncle. This is even more of problem when she essentially wastes so much MP Flaring someone whose HP is barely breaking double digits just to put them back down. Whoopie.

It also didn't help that Poison and Dispel Magic are pretty damn useless against Masamune--how surprising--and that for some reason, the A.I. preferred using those over Frog & Odin and Sleep for some reason. Not that Sleep really even benefits our team that much since Dharok basically OHKOs everyone anyone and magic doesn't get boosted at it. Hell, Serena and Sleep are outright antithetical to each other due to her running around Flaring everyone to death. (My fault for purchasing Poison despite already knowing it's not worth a damn, at least on Wizard's skill set and with Masamune around.)

That said, we got kind of lucky with Death hitting as much as it did and the second and third maps were really in our favor. I'm really glad Dharok is someone I don't have to fight against even if none of us can revive him all that well. Averaging 500~ damage per hit is pretty disgusting even with the disadvantages that Always: Berserk brings.

The only unit I was worried about was the OP squire Gray since my team is really weak against status. Glad to see the RNG gods on our side this match. As if the team wasn't OP enough.

Awesome! Would it help if people post two entries? Figured if team pools are too limited, we can double the roster.

O..ow. That was difficult to watch, I'm not into snuff films. If we had any chance of winning, we needed a petrify or death to hit. Odd to see "death" at all, let alone two death casters. I didn't realize, when a unit has death on them, they behave as if the death is sure to hit. (Relatively) Many potential raise 2 attempts were reduced to stick whacks which may make death viable as disruption. The lack of synergy on our team is painfully obvious and highlighted in these matches. Odd how all the support builds end up on one team and the OHKOers(suggested team name) on another. Malroth had a similar idea to mine, but executed it completely differently (as only he could make a unit like that) and we couldn't support each other well. Against a tanky oracle or paladin, death would (and did) work great, but with the squishy units all being on the other teams, a two handed geomancer is preferred.

I have had a discussion with the other members of fft arena and we have agreed that your geomancer has a drug problem. I asked him "What are the four basic food groups?" he told me "COCAINE!" And hit me in the face with an axe.

Team 4 is going to easily take this since all the status users are all on one team. I am not complaining.

Hey I made a couple of updates to my Unit.  I'm absolutely not keeping track of JP in case that wasn't already apparent.

Also team one's mime has a ton of synergy with the thief.  Who would have thought that if the mime has two swords then it can mimic two sword abilities?  Learn something new every day!
