Dude, that's awesome!!! I'll be sure to check it out!

I'm not a programmer, but I'd like to contribute to this. Do you need any help with text, menus, etc?

I must've been lucky, then :D Weird, I'm sure this .iso of mine was dumped from my own UMD, and still it worked fine! Well, I'm not complaining!

The topic predates PPSSPP considerably, so, ISO. Though it may be easier to just look for the bytes to change and edit it with a hex editor, since there are so many English versions of WotL that you are likely to pull out every hair on your head trying to get the ISO to patch properly. Unless you already have a Euro ISO, in which case, use Eternal's ppf.

Nexus made a ppf for the US version too. Just tested it, works fine.

I came back to the forums just to thank Archaemic and anyone else that might have helped him make this! It is HUGE! I always loved FFT, and I've always cherished my copy of WorL, but the slowdown really got to my nerves - really, sometimes I just couldn't keep playing because all the animations would make me sleepy! This will make the game fresh again!

Help! / Re: PPF-O-Matic Issue
February 15, 2012, 11:20:23 am
Guys, just a heads up: I downloaded the PPF-O-Matic (the one found here) and MSE detected it as a virus, Virus:Win32/Tufik.G to be exact. After that, I downloaded the one in Elric42's post and it read as a clean file by the same antivirus. You might want to check if some hacker for one reason or another substituted/hacked that file.

VERY interesting! Wish I could help with that, since, unlike many people, I really like WotL. Hey, who knows, maybe along the way you can find some way to even transplant stuff from WotL to the PSX version (Dark Knight's abilities come to mind)! Ehm, of course, that's not your goal, and I don't even know if it's possible =D

Well, anyways, keep up the great work! WotL would certainly be more enjoyable without all the slowdowns.

War of the Lions Hacking / "Soft" Patch

Hello there, guys! After some time away from FFT, I recently started playing it again. And one of the games I played while I was away is Monster Hunter Portable 3rd. In case you don't know, it is a somewhat popular game that, unfortunately, didn't see the light of a western release. That didn't stop third party translators from messing with it, though, and the latest patches really made a difference.

I'm telling you that because those guys use a very interesting technology to apply the patch to the game: instructions. Basically, you leave the ISO untouched and tell the PSP to use a plugin that will load certain instructions from a separate file, patching the information coming from the ISO (and if that's the case, AFAIK, from the UMD too) on the go. Of course, we are talking simple text substitution here, but if something like that could be applied to FFT:TWotL, think of the possibilities! You could have several mods installed at once using a fraction of the patched ISOs space, not to mention how easy and fast it would be to test new patches! And, if I'm correct, you could also "patch" an UMD!

Now, I know (ehm, at least, IIRC) most of you guys prefer to mod the PSX version of the game. Also, I'm aware that I can't code anything (well, maybe I could code some "Hello world!" message in .net, but I wouldn't count even on that =D), so I can't really help developing the idea. But I thought maybe you guys would like the idea, and be intrigued enough to give it a try, so I decided to share it with you! Hope it can be of use :)

Ehm, of course, this isn't simply a "look what I thought!" topic; discuss to your heart's content, and tell me what you think about its feasibility :)

PS: Not sure this would be the right forum section to post this topic, but lets hope it sees some love :)

Alright! Found looots of pics of her just by searching for the name. Specially a thread dedicated entirely to her in 4chan XD But please, send them!

About the so called "gay marriage", the confusion is quite common, and even the Brazilian media didn't quite get the point (I'm Brazilian, in case you're wondering :D). Just as in US, a judgment creates a precedent, something that may be brought up by lawyers to defend the interests of his clients or by judges and courts to use as base for other judgments (the right word for "base" would be "fundaments", at least in a direct translation, but in here that is the Squire's skill set /o/). However, unlike US, that is not the most important foundation of the judge's decision, and a judge could, indeed, not agree with a decision by the Supreme Court and rule against what was said previously (that decision, however, will probably not hold; STF's sayings are so strong that probably any appeal will have the decision changed. STF is Brazil's Supreme Court, btw XD Full name is Superior Tribunal Federal); the most important foundation for the judge's decision will always be the law, and in countries that follow the Civil Law tradition (continental Europe, ibero-american former colonies, etc. United States, England and pretty much all the other former English colonies follow the Common Law system) everything that is regarded as being worthy of state tutelage is IDEALLY codified in some law or other. It is unlawful to adjudicate against the law unless a very strong reason is presented or the law simply doesn't connect to reality any more (until very recently, adultery was a penal crime, that is, you could go to jail if you cheated your wife/husband; the law that said that is from 1940, though, so this was pretty much ignored from the 70's forward. This was revoked by another law in 2005, though, so even if some crazy judge wanted to condemn someone to a few years in jail because of a kiss outside the marriage, this wouldn't be possible). Judges may otherwise only give a judgment outside of the law if there is no law regulating the case.

This was, more or less, the case. Brazil's Civil Code (the code that has most of the general laws guiding the civilian's lives) explicitly states, in it's 1.514th Article that "The marriage takes place in the moment that man and woman declare, in front of the judge, their wish to establish conjugal bonds, and the judge declares them married." Also, on stable unions, 1.723rd Article says that "It is recognized as a familiar entity the stable union between man and woman, configured by public, continuous and lasting companionship and established with the objective of creating a family" (sorry for the cheesy translation, it is not very easy to convey exactly what is said). However, the Civil Code does not say that same-sex unions are NOT a familiar entity. What's more important, our Constitution ALSO never says that same-sex unions are a familiar entity, it only explicitly says that heterosexual unions are so.

The STF, then, just set a precedent for same-sex couples to have their condition of stable union recognized as a familiar entity by the state, with all the rights and obligations that entails, all that based on principles such as human and civil rights :) But as I said earlier, that is but the first step. These couples will have to have their condition declared by a judge after a due, long process (they might even have to appeal if the judge doesn't agree with their claim), whereas in a straight marriage all you have to do is declare your wishes in front of a judge and in a straight union the condition is presumed (i.e.: if a guy has been living with his girlfriend for 5 years straight, it is presumed that they are enjoying a stable union). To have the same "automatic" rights as the heterosexual couples, our senators and representatives would have to put that command into law. And boy, are they lazy...

That said, it is a VERY important first step. Same-sex couples can now have their rights recognized, whereas before the didn't have ANY rights (save the odd decision of some progressionist judge that decided to adjudicate the right of adoption to a couple; otherwise, those couples would have one of the pair to adopt the child as a single parent, and the kid wouldn't have the right to be the heir to the other person). Specially when you have in mind that Brazil is the single largest catholic country in the world (i.e.: have the largest catholic population in the world); even proportionally (90%+), most are still catholic.

----

About the lobby situation, it is not a very clear subject. Technically it is a crime, since taking money as a senator or representative to represent someone's interests is plain bribery at most, and improbity at least, and both senators and representatives should represent the claims of those who put those in their positions, namely the voters. There is a very intense, if not very open, ongoing discussion on the subject though. Should lobby be explicitly legal? Should lobbyists be then registered, taking into account both their sponsors and their interests? Should private companies be able to freely fund a candidate's campaign (they actually can, but there is a limit to the value of that sponsorship, if I'm not mistaken)? Or should we just say that senator's and representative's claims must echo the claims of the voters that actually put them there? Those are not easy questions to answer, and they are certainly not the only ones being made on the subject. As it stands NOW, it is simply illegal to have someone with political powers to favor some economic faction or another, "just for the sake of it".

----

Well, that's it! I tried to be as clear as possible, but on such mind-consuming topics, I tend to get a little verbose (even in Portuguese!) and sometimes I just can't express everything I'm thinking, specially because when I get to writing I simply can't remember all that XD If there's anything shady or not clear, or any doubt on anything I've said, please, let me know and I'll try as best as I can to explain :)

P.S.: In case you're wondering, I'm at the last year of Law school XD I'm also an economist, but that's not (as) important on these subjects =)

Well, not really. Brazil's Supreme Court just said that same-sex couples under a stable union can be constitutionally considered a "familiar entity", which means that it is, indeed, a family. That does not mean that it has been "legalized" by any means. In Civil Law systems, something only becomes "legal" if it is turned into law by the parliament (ideally, at least; in most places, Brazil included, presidents can make some kind of law, though that is not necessarily the name for the bill in case, nor does it have the same power/legitimacy as regular laws). What it DOES mean is that brazilian same-sex couples can now claim the same rights as heterosexual couples, such as succession by death of the partner or the right to adopt a child, since it is now understood that the Constitution says so, but they will most likely have to seek judicial adjudication to assert that right. It is not the same thing as for heterosexual couples, that have that right acknowledged automatically. It is certainly a start, but it's not the "end".

I can elaborate more on the subject if you want, but I won't bother you with the details unless strictly necessary. =D

Incidentally, I know the OP didn't ask about Brazil, but lobby is illegal in it. That doesn't mean it doesn't happen, it just means it is a crime. ;)

Entirelly off-topic, but I've been a lurker in these forums for VERY long, and I always loved your avatar, PGF! And I always wanted to ask who is that/where did you find it! XD

Great guide, it really helped me out! Thanks Celdia!

@Wasabi and @Ultros

I know this is a dead issue by now, but you can use CDMage to mess with WotL. All you have to do is:

1 - Open the PSP iso as M1/2048 track .iso;
2 - Go to Track 1/PSP_GAME/USRDIR and extract "fftpack.bin";
3 - As an extra step, launch a FFTPatcher (I'm using version .478), go to PSP=>Utilities=>Extract fftpack.bin..., and extract into an empty folder;
4 - Navigate to that folder and find your UNIT.BIN and WLDFACE.BIN (it's at the same place it would be in the PSX .iso as shown by Celdia, i.e.: <folder>/EVENT);
4 - Do stuff as Celdia said;
5 - When you have the resulting UNIT.BIN, WLDFACE.BIN and WLDFACE4.BIN, launch the FFTPacher again and go to PSP=>Utilities=>Rebuild fftpack.bin... and select your folder;
6 - Finally, just import the resulting fftpack.bin into the .iso, using CDMage.

Help! / Re: FFTacText Issues

@MagiusRerecros
Oh, well, I'll keep looking! At least now I have the version numbers, that should help out!

@Eternal248
Unfortunately, I already tried that, and tried it again now, to no avail.

As a side note, of course it was to be expected, but TacText .271 can't understand .fftext files created by .478.

EDIT: I just found the .466 version in this topic. Alas, it gives the same output as the .478 version.

Do you guys happen to know everything I have to change in order to edit a few abilities and items? I might as well do this manually when I have the time to spare.

Awwww, what a pity. Thanks a lot for the reply, though!

I'll keep the PSX info ready, I might just do something for my play group using that some day :)

Hello, there, guys.

I'm trying to finish up this small mod I'm making for WotL (as already described here), and one of the things I wanted to do is edit the graphic that shows when a character attacks using a Materia Blade. I don't want to use a custom graphic, mind you, I just wanted to make the game use another inbuilt graphic.

Now, I've read these topics:
http://ffhacktics.com/smf/index.php?topic=5024.0
http://ffhacktics.com/smf/index.php?topic=296.msg4873#msg4873
http://ffhacktics.com/smf/index.php?topic=1483.0

But I couldn't really understand what to do. I extracted a battle.bin from my .iso, but when I look it up using a Hex Editor (I tried using Notepad++ with a hex addon, but ended up using WindHex, found somewhere else in these forums), the offset pointed by Vanya doesn't really match what he said... IF I understood correctly what he said.

So, I really just want to change one or two values to make the game show another graphic. What's the easiest way to do it? I'm not completely clueless, but a walkthrough as detailed as possible would be greatly appreciated!

Hmmm, dunno about it. I have japanese installed in my pc, IME included. Of course, it wouldn't be the first time I see a program freaking out with eastern alphabets nevertheless...

About the repo, the newest TacText in those files is indeed .271. Are we missing something? That list is a bit outdated anyways, could there be, by any chance, a newer repository?

Help! / FFTacText Issues
May 02, 2011, 10:12:39 am
Hello there, guys!

I am making a little modification for my personal use. I am basically applying 1.3's changes to Cloud to a vanilla game, since the guy is pittiably weak in it.

The problem is, I want to do this to the PSP version of the game. While I figured it out what to do in the FFTPatcher department to apply the latest version's changes (and it is working all right), I can't quite solve the problem I'm having with FFTacText. It goes like this:

DTE for BOOT.BIN 5 failed.
The ISO has NOT been modified.

I reckon this is quite a common case with FFTacText .478 while trying to patch WotL. I've seen most people saying to just give up and patch the PSX version instead, but this isn't an option, since I play Melee and Rendezvous all the time with some friends, and this will be something like a fix for our play group.

I was wondering: would an older version of TacText work with patching WotL? If so, where could I find some? I have a very old one lying around, .271, but I don't know of its stability, and unfortunately it doesn't have that extremely useful option of "QuickEdit'.

If I can't find a way to do this, I might just as well note down the changes and send them to the guys, but I wanted to do something a bit more tidy and "complete" =/
