PSX FFT Hacking / Graphical Issue
September 18, 2019, 03:13:07 am
Hey guys. I'll keep it short.

EDIT: I know the pictures are really big. I screenshotted from my PC so... yeah, sorry about that.

I changed Simon and Balmafula sprites and used Celia and Lede (both unused) to their respective places. No problems.

Then I changed Alma - Battle (14) with another custom sprite. I figured out that the Young Priest (the one after Simon) was used for Unit.bin and Wld4Face.bin, so I did the necessary adjustments (I replaced Alma - Battle with Alma - Event in the ENTD).

Placed my new sprite in the Military Academy. She appears to be fine, but this happens: (look at screenshot (2))

Then my background for saving turns into this: (look at screenshot (3))

I did not change the Knight sprite, whatsoever. It came out like that the moment the sprite appeared. I have a 6 hour save file that WAS NOT patched and did not have the new sprite. I'm not sure if that is the reason for the graphical issues. I also didn't go deep into the game so I'm not sure if there will be more of these graphic bugs in the long run.

Help please. Thanks.

Help! / Returning Fellow Hacker
September 04, 2019, 12:36:12 pm
Hey guys, it's been a while since I've laid my hands on hacking Tactics (I think it's been two years). I want to go back to business once again but I am having trouble finding the right links to guide me on making custom jobs and characters. I've skimmed over custom spriting but I don't want to jump ahead. I am attempting to venture into the PSX version, since it was a struggle to change WOTL back then.

If someone can link the tutorials for me, it would be great. Thanks.

(I'm not sure if this is the right thread to post. Please don't hurt me :D )

You could always use Twin's portrait of Ike in the previously linked topic. Just make sure you credit him for it.

Yeah, his version looks WAY better than mine.... I'll try changing the colors to his to see if there is a significant change but if not, I will probably have to. I'll study it and maybe, I'll understand the concept better.

I couldn't really nail the colors down, even when I used the vanilla colors. Something is off about the portrait....

I am still getting used to spriting, but seeing what I used to do compared to now, I think that I've gotten better at it. Maybe it's shading part I need to work on.

Help! / Re: Passive Weapon Leveling

I want the sword to be weak early on but later becomes a killer later on in the chapters.

I just loaded in Jot5's Cloud into Shishi and examined the frames when the camera rotated around the character....The same thing applies to this Cloud like my Ike.

So I guess leave it?

My gut tells me you need multiple copies of the sword with different strengths and you need to manually replace it somehow at varying points in the story.
The reason I say this is because its how Ramza works. They controlled how strong he could be at any given point in time by having multiple copies of him and simply replacing the old Ramza with a new one each chapter.

I mean, in theory you could alter the stats of the weapon somehow with ASM hacks, but it would likely get pretty hairy pretty quick, as you'd have write a routine and link it to an event condition or map instruction, and in that routine you'd have to locate the Excalibur stats (assuming they're even in memory and not just read direct from disc each time) and alter them somehow...

Another option might be possible by formula hacking and making Arthur the only one who can equip it. The skill formula would probably need to be ASM hacked still, and would likely need to be something like Excalibur PWR = (Excalibur Base PWR / 50) * Character's Level
If you could manage that it would give the sword its regular 21 Pwr at level 50, and that would continue to increase damage by one point roughly every 3 levels or so.

But I haven't formula hacked at all so I can't tell you where to start looking for that.

I see something in the ASM that is "random unit gear based on progression" in ASM. Is that what you are referring to?

Help! / Passive Weapon Leveling
September 09, 2017, 03:15:13 am
It sounds dumb and stupid, but is there a way for a specific weapon to increase power every chapter (*shower thought*)? If so, do I have to replace several weapons to make it happen?

For example, let's say I put King Arthur in the game and I want him as one of my starting characters. Giving him the actual Excalibur with that insane Weapon Damage kinda throws balance but I also want him to have his signature weapon. I make the plastic sword version of the weapon and give it to him. Now I'm in late Chapter 2 and the weapon I had so much effort just to put in the game becomes overwhelmed by a mere Coral Sword. And then the weapon is lost in the ages....

Is it possible or no?

Cheers!

Spriting / IT'S DONE!
September 09, 2017, 12:06:57 am
Hey guys! After 3 days of hardcore work, I finally finished Ike, the Radiant Hero!

HOWEVER.....

I see that his pauldron switches whenever you change the angle of the camera left or right. Twinees did mention about the diagonal part is the most important and of course, he is definitely right. I tried changing it to the other side, but it wouldn't stop flipping....

I might change his shoulder but it wouldn't be the signature the "One-hand swinging, One-Man-Armying, Aether Spamming" look of Ike. As I said, it wouldn't stop flipping even though I changed it to his right arm instead of his left.

If it is how it is, I'll just leave it be. Anyways, before I post it, I couldn't get the right blue color for his hair in the portrait. I kinda need help >.<  . Also, I'll put in the .BMP to get the OKAY.

Thanks for everything guys!

EDIT: If anyone wants the file, I'll provide it down here as well.

UPDATE: I made the portrait more smooth than the previous, but I don't know if it's enough to make it look like the other portraits in the game. I'll leave it down for you guys to decide.

Props to Twinees for being the original!

List need to do: [check means finished and needs advice]
:v/: Portrait finished!
:v/: Simpler armor (White/Grey pants, One Pauldron) [Critique from Twinees]
:v/: Used vanilla color schemes [mostly] from Agrias and Elmdor for blue/grey, red respectively (Critique from Elric)

*Note* : Elmdor's bright red looked too bright on Ike, so instead, I made it 21/6/3

Arm sets
Critical sprite
Attack animations
Casting animations
Hit animation

Progress is progress! My internet is down for now, so I'll post the pictures on Imgur and later transfer to here.

Thanks for the help! I'm a slow learner, but I think I learned a lot!

EDIT: Had to edit in order to put in .bmp files on my phone. Woops! Will be up momentarily!

Thanks for the critique. I lowered down most of the colors (also incorporated your schemes) and this is how he looks now. I figured that this Ike is closer to the Fates version. I'll use that as a reference rather than the other Ike pictures I see online.

Tell me if I made any improvements....Honestly, I think this version looks better than the one I did first time.

EDIT: I realized that the red and blue is WAY to vivid again (got too carried away...), so I'll tone it up(?) or down. I'll experiment.

EDIT 2: Fixed it and this is now the proper version. For some reason, the program didn't register the blue and red properly so I went back.

I'm redoing the sprite. Here's my progress so far. I think that the yellow is too bright but if I bring it too low, it would blend with the brown.
13
I just started spriting and I managed to make the Ike sprite. However, nothing is perfect and I need help refining this sprite if anyone is up to it.

Props to DarkShade's sprite "Fayt" because I used it as the base of the sprite.

I did what I can to make the sprite. I decided to leave Ike's left arm red to make him match with the steampunk stuff in the game (kinda makes him look badass and unique).

Problems to note:
-One of the walking animations shows a red dot (I believe it's frame 9) and for some reason, I can't remove it.
-I do not know how to make changes to the portrait because the colors are not the same. I dug around some forums on this site but it made it more confusing. That's why the portrait in the Base.BMP file looks off.
-I do not know if the portrait is good enough to pass, so if anyone can critique it, I would like some advice.
-Cape looks off. An attempt to make it more fluent and flowing >.<

Thanks if you helped me with this spirte! Some person requested this sprite in some forum....I'll let that person know that I completed it!

Cheers.

Help! / Hi, I'm new but more importantly...
September 02, 2017, 12:28:56 am
Just got into the modding business of FFT and I managed to replace the "Simon" sprite of the game. The problem is, I want to replace several more characters but I do not know who in the game to replace.

If it is okay, can anyone provide me a list who is replaceable in-game?

TY.
