I am noob in sprites and need help.
The Adelle sprite is very good, it is in progress, but my other sprite (I am), I need help in hair and in the portrait. Could anyone help me with my sprite?
My three sprite is the Tonberry King, I completed the half. It is in a past topic.
Hmm, could you post some frames of those two in bigger sizes? I would give more feedback then.
Your rfg sprite reminds me of a teepo sprite I had seen floating around some time ago... I wonder what happened with that.
I like your first sprite, although the colors on the waist almost seem a little too bold for my taste. Pink is something seems to fit sometimes, but not all.

Sorry I can`t edit the post This is the image link: http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/577/dibujopge.png
i still think someone needs to make her neck shorter in that picture lol...
Next version of Adelle and me:
I think that I need help on hair seen from behind.
Sorry, I have not had much time for exams, in the next days i will continue the sprite

Yes, Why not?
thank you boss :D
her neck is too long lol
Beta Sprite:
Definitly needs FFT colors, otherwise it will be too flashy. Port also needs work, cause it is from FFTA stuff I think, and doesn't fit FFT unless you do some FFTfying work on it.
IT HAS A NOSE! KILL IT! KILL IT!!!
No, seriously though. Its cute. Would be nice with the suggestions Kage made.
I love this sprite- no pun intended. I'll definitely use it if it's finished and paletted. :)
It is from FFTA, needs its nose chopped off or better- a whole new FFT style portrait. You can keep those colors, just suck away the saturation by like 20-50% in Photoshop and see what works. Not bad, not bad.
A lot of FFT monsters have got nose. As for the colors I going to try to do something.

This is a very rough, remade from scratch portrait for the sprite. I need to fix some colors and shading now. The greens on the hair are bad. Once I get a good tone for that I can rework the eyes mouth. I am feel a slightly evil eye'd mouth sprite for this.
Nice work Mando, I Always love seeing more monster sprites getting closer to being usable
I like much more the previous hair.
Mmm, the sprtite, maybe...
Ah, where to start. Obvious thing is the overal flatness of basiclly everything, hair, skin, wings. Since her face should be humanoid from what it seems, her mouth needs to loose that lower line of pixel, cause it makes it look out of place and not FFT. While we are on the head subject, the shading on it is completely different than any FFT port has, where is the shade coming from chin to the very ear?(it is there I guess, but not fully). Another thing about head itself is that it should be moved to our right at least five pixels since the head looks damn stretched atm. Ears are also waaaay too gigh, not to mention I don't even know if it IS an ear, since it doesn't look like one. Look at Zelda port for a pointy ear design, or at Link. Last thing would be the wings, they look totally pixelated and flat, outcome of this in FFT will be bad, I suggest just using Llyud as reference.
Fine, I will leave the hair texture be for now, but it still has every other issue I mentioned. In the end I will probably end fixing it up myself.
I like how its custom mando, but its gonna be tricky trying to get the wings too look...well..like wings. they look creepy right now. Might be too hard. and hair you already know
Fern Gully.
++++++++++++++++!
Something about those portraits doesn't look FFT style, not that I can really judge, I suck so bad at portraiting...
But before you do, pick a good existing portrait of a FFT character with the colors you want on the fairy. Use only those 16 colors and post the results. This is because the default palletes already got their values straight, and once you do you can tweak them safely in the end.
Then we can nitpick until it looks decent enough.
Optionally, you could make two or three versions also, it's good practice.
Let's not forget the sprite saturation..
That's what I said, the sprite is way too saturated. Simple solution is to just turn them down (make the sprite darker) in Photoshop or whatever you use. Welcome back Smash!
Edit: I desaturated the sprite for you. I think it might be too dark, but in game thats about the level of their colors. Everything is so moody in FFT (color wise).
I will work on this in my free time. No doubt I will change the hair though, since it is far too short now. Will post some progress once I get to it.
Not for nothin' but none of these designs match the sprite very well.

wings look badass now tbh...man dont sweat it. I dont let people get me down when i make crap...and yours dont look that bad. Its custom...that sheet is hard to make. Did a great job on the wings all things considerin'....making the clothes and the wings the same color seemed to help alot.
What I couldn't understand was what you were trying to do with that hair compared to the original. Gods know I'm no spriter and hair is probably the last thing I should be doing but I grabbed a few examples elsewhere and tried a different take on this one. I really liked your latest presentation of her wings in the port Mando, so I kept those and your palettes.
You're all welcome to take this one and run with it as you see fit. Just thought I'd give it a shot.
woah.. boss celdia.. nice XD
that's great XD
Ok, gues, I mihht have troubles writing properlu now, but I still know what needst to be fiixd. Shape of hair an shading of it itself. It is way too short, makes the head seem short by way too much, I will get to this shit once I...yeah, Shadinfig is ok currently, but it needs t be bigger, gimme some time and I will get to this eh. Stay put firends, fix is on its way, uyo.
I think the shortness of it was on purpose because she's such a tiny thing but I suppose you could shift her up and show off more of her body to fill the portrait space.
I think it needs bigger eyes and a less round face. Hair looks good now :-)
Because she looks too human right now...
Here
Copied lijj's mentalist closed eyes that he did a great job on
Think it looks better mando?
This sprite looks a lot like someone I know more and more as it develops lately; it's spooking me out (see below).
I like the closed eye version; the line under the eyes was really bothersome before.
poor Rfh got thread hijacked XD

Could be worse. Could have been ignored. :P
OK. Here's what I came up with. I tried to give it more of a hint of the original while building on what everyone had done.

I haven't got much time. I have a lot of exams this week.
The hair on the sprite is short. Making it having it shoulder-length doesn't make much sense to me and it blends too much with the hair in front of the ear. The line on the wing I added just follows the pixels that were already there to what I thought was a logical point. It's just a mock up so I didn't even look at the palette, to tell the truth.
One thing I noticed about it is that now that the big part of the hair on the left side is gone, it would probably be a good idea to recenter the whole portrait. Right now it looks like the wings are centered in the frame, but her body is off center from the frame and the wings.
I think the way the hair much better with this: (The first image)
Regarding the head should be more long: (The second image)
The eyes look very good, though. As for the hair, Vanya, isn't it about neck length / almost shoulder?

EVERYONE GET BACK
I got dis under control
Awesome, this means I can work on DD more! Looking forward to see the outcome.
The angel has answered our prayers.
wait ago! XD go smaaaaash~! XD
Hahaha, instant save
Right now it looks like a good base for a FFT Sprite! Actually what caught my eye was you have 2 portraits of it, one that seems the normal one and the other with eyes closed and mouth opened. Reminds me of Fire Emblem, how they talk and blink all the time!
Hmm, I edit the Rydia sprite and I put in her hair her typical amulet.
I got inspired by you, Rfh, and decided to clean-up my old Rydia sprite. If anyone is a fan of her, then you can be happy, since this will get done. New on the left.
Kage~?
Aren't you supposed to be working on male chocokin counterpart :/
Do whatever inspires you though.
These mystic greens are tricky
(http://i40.tinypic.com/2q3sls9.jpg)
It was quite a challenge to get it to look decent with these 3 shades. Or im getting real rusty now.
(I was too lazy to go look for a green dragon spirte for more references..)
I think I might need to slip another shade there
Don't worry Lijj, Rydia isn't taking priority here, heh.
Just 3 shades, but it does look awesome, I don't have anything bad to say about it.
Edit: After looking closer, I noticed one thing, the chin line should be a little rounder, since now it is straight and sharp.

woah that's epic smash! OoO
I'm a Rydia fan, I love almost all FF IV's characters. Can you make the portrait for Rydia look a little more like the DS version (unless you don't like that one)? She has like bluish lipstick in that. Also her face as an adult looks younger, yours looks 25ish, she is like 18-21 in the game, but other than that great work on the sprite! :D
I was planning to redoo port for practice too. Guess I have a reason now, hehe.

That's looking really nice! The only thing I'd like to point out is that the sprite itself doesn't have the roll-thingy in the back. It just has a normal bob-cut style in the back.
Meh, I love the roll thing, it's looking neat, besides I bet it won't be in the final product, since it has to be cropped down to FFT size port.
I like the roll thingy to, it's just that portraits that have features the sprite doesn't is a bit of a pet peeve of mine.
Working again in Sprite: I change the palettes and the dead sprite. Then, I created a new portrait for me:
Your portraits blacks are way too black and un-FFT style. Also that R in blue is nearly impossible to see on the small portrait, if you want it to stand out it has to be white since that's the complimentary color. The hair looks okay but its so hard to see because the shades are way too similar. To make it work better use really dark grays instead. Not too bad though.

Well, My hair and my eyes are amazing black, that are impossible to see in them something brown or another color. (I'm no monster, the people consider me handsome xD)
The fairie I think that has perfect colors, only need to edit some things in the portrait. In the future I am going to continue my Tonberry King sprite, and for my game, I need to create a Vaan and Ashe sprite. Maybe the base would be FFXII RW.
I'm not sure why the hair never got finished; but since it lacks texture it looks wrong. It's like Lego hair :(
Mobius! come finish it.
Look at the colors from the sprite reference sheet RFH.. your personal portrait is coming along well but even if your hair is pitch black it's still too dark to fit into FFT well.
I'll see what I can do with this. In the meantime, there's some Spriting Commandments that could be applied here.
Give the commandments a try RFH. you won't be dissapointed.
Especially the second one.
Well, this is a Vaan sprite converted from FFTA2 and FFXII RW:
Me likes dat fairy
i've realigned, repaletted and put in the portrait that you used into one of the japanese spritage..
maybe this'll be a better base?
needs alot of work lolz. But It might be salvageable.
O.O Thanks Taichii, this is a very better base.
I'm not too sure about Vaan because I didn't play the FF he's in, but right now I think the colors blue and red make this sprite seem awkward. Actually I probably could help by making a recolor version of this, but right now I'm lazy. Simply desaturate this base and you'll probably be good to go.
jon that's what i planned to do but my Photoshop crashes yesterday a lot XD
Hmm, changing colors with Photoshop isn't such a great idea because it leads to weird bugs in Shishi, use the Palette Editor instead...
no no XD
it has no problem with photoshop since it will only change its saturation :D and using this app, it wont affect the black and white palette.. it wont also add palette IF you click save XD
Today I find a simple magic knight in the forum. With this I repalette the PSP Dark Knight: (Need to elimine Trash Pixels and portrait palette)
I feel like there's so many details on the sprite that a lot of them could be removed. That was the problem with the original sprite, IMO.
If you want to seriously crit Square Enix's Dark Knight it'll probably be tough. There are so many elements playing in the sprite. I think in general most FFT spriters on here and else where hated the Dark Knight, I don't totally hate it but I don't love it either. I think it looks like Vivi killed Steiner and stole his armor lol.
So I'll try to be neutral and hold back any personal feelings about the DK, the colors you chose Rfh are pretty decent. Its not too saturated. I think the yellows need to be changed since its not complimentry to teal, since red is green's opposite and orange is blues (green + blue = teal) I think a dark orange should be used (red + orange). Your call though. I have a feeling judging by the eyes you recolored this by hand and I'm wondering why? You can easily recolor with Palette Editor, so fast you'll be amazed. How did the eyes become teal?
Better, now my head is similar to this portrait at 100% (with the pixel size of the game). The only problem is that I need one color more for the hair. When I have time, I'll rework and finish my tomberry king...
You have way too little skin colors for this guy, since it's only 4, but I guess it's too late. Also, black are MUCH too dark, I did a quick edit so you can see how to improve it.
Thanks!
