I'm curious. Zodiac, what do those characters on your avatar stand for?

On a /note, I'm a fucking Leo!

Quote from: "Asmo X"(Something about my CoK)

Look, Asmo. We could continue fighting indefinitely here. I could make some snide comment about how Caves-of-Narsheian it is of you to think that post-counts have anything to do with authority or intelligence. Then you could tell me that my Caves-of-Narshe sentence doesn't make any grammatical sense whatsoever, and then I could encourage you to make sure you edit those positive feedback posts you made in my Kanbabrif thread (under New Projects) before someone realizes how well I "summed it up" about your sudden, inexplicable switch from blunt honesty to asshole reputation, with a /note that you change those posts to something meaner, involving male genitals and utilizing the phrase "shut the fuck up" or "get the fuck out," so that future generations of new users can remain in the dark about how you used to be..

But it's clear that many onlookers here are tired of seeing us shit up this highly-thoughtful farewell thread. Plus, I don't think there's a single person here who would disagree when I say that there's clearly a lot of sexual tension between us. So please stop flexing your superiority over everyone and just ask me to go to the prom with you already.

Quote from: "Asmo X"why are you all rallying behind that moron BP and his indecipherable opinions?

They're only indecipherable to you because I try to present both sides of an argument and find a rational, middle ground. That conflicts with your SEVERELY black & white method of dealing with everything. To you, a post is either incredibly awesome or made of supreme faggotry and fail.

I was here when FFH was first created, and I remember that you used to be the best at giving honest criticism. It was blunt, and sometimes abrasive, but people respected you for your honesty. Then, as time went by, you realized you had built a reputation on that abrasiveness, so now you go out of your way to be as much of a fucking dick as humanely possible, for the sake of preserving the newer asshole reputation.

So, if I were to use your method of dealing with everything, I'd retract that last paragraph (too much explanation) and just simply say that you are a fucking dick, Asmo.

Who gives a shit, though, right? It's the Internet, serious business, etc. Say whatever the fuck you want to say to me, about me, etc. Some days I don't care, others I do, and you can always count on me to make a very clear distinction between them when I do post.

Just keep that in mind when you keep bitching about Voldemort's "insane ramblings." He was acting like a fucking dick to LD, and it's no secret he always looked up to you, Asmo. You're in no position to whine about Voldemort's behavior.

The Lounge / Re: Is YOUR name in FFT?
August 13, 2010, 05:49:29 pm
That's more than 14 characters. You'll have to make the name "Pickle Girl" and rename the job "Fanboy."

On topic, no, but I kept expecting to see it in the WotL version.

On a /note, I was very pleased to see the names "Esmenet" and "Kellhus" in that version, since those are two of the main characters in R. Scott Bakker's "Prince of Nothing" series.

The Lounge / What are you watching?
August 10, 2010, 05:17:29 pm
CINEMA:

Inception.

My score: 8/10 - Not as good as The Prestige, Memento or Batman Begins, but definitely better than The Dark Knight.

MOVIES:

Good Night, and Good Luck.

Written, directed and shot with erratic flair. It's almost as if Clooney did a Mad Men marathon while drinking himself into oblivion, then woke up to a morning broadcast of His Girl Friday on TCM, flipped the channel to find the Smurfs on some stupid fucking channel (why would he flip away from His Girl Friday!?) and thought, 'Eureka! Commies! I'll do a movie about the journalist who dared to attack Wisconsin Sen. McCarthy's unconstitutional methods during the red scare!" Well played, George, with guys like Straitharn delivering the coolest fucking speeches over the CBS airwaves, evar, but you need to know that even--EVEN--in the fast-paced journalist world, the characters of His Girl Friday at least--AT LEAST--waited until one character finished speaking a line before the next character immediately started sputtering rapid-fire words as though the first person never existed. Not always.. but enough.

My score: 5/10 - Educational, with a neat overall message. Needed more drama, or tension, or sex, or something. I felt like I was really just hopping back in time to watch CBS in the 50s.

RIFFTRAX:
Star Trek [2009]

(Kirk runs from the giant ice-crab monster thing)
Kevin: "No, no.. He's doing it wrong! Shatner would have slept with the thing twice by now!"

(Romulan guard falls to his death)
Mike: "Tell my bald wife and my bald kids how baalld I thiink theey aaaaaarrrrrrrreeeee.."

My score: 7/10 - Not one of the best Riffs, because the movie is actually decent enough to create this sense of frustration in you as the guys are riffing--"Shh! Shh! Not now, guys! I'm trying to hear what Spock's dad is saying!" I originally gave this a 3/10 score because it was really bad the first time, but a second viewing (third viewing of Star Trek altogether) allowed me to relax and enjoy the riffs, which were surprisingly very decent.

TELEVISION:

Mad Men - Don and Lane out on the town = unexpected WIN of epic proportions.
Burn Notice - Can't wait to get this whole Jesse thing taken care of so he can move on to wherever the script-writers intend to send him.
Psych - "Who says work has to be fun?" - "Uh, Ron Jeremy, for starters."

I don't have an alt account here, Asmox. It's flattering to know that anything that confuses you immediately makes you think of me, though <3

Yeah, yeah, I know.. "Shut the fuck up and die a slow and painful death, BP." Gotcha. Saved you a response post.

Quote from: "Asmo X"BP, whenever a dramatic situation arises around here you blah blah are a stupid bladdyblah and I am super sex blah blah. Why is this?

Because I want your fluids.

Honestly, someone usually contacts me outside of FFH, gives me the scoop and asks me to stop by and lend my thoughts. You may not think much of them, but some people here appreciate that I offer some kind of neutral, rational perspective in the middle of all the shit-slinging you guys do here. It's like White Knighting except with some consideration for both sides--Gray Knighting.

Your method works too, though. I'm not going to pretend like I'm not in awe of Bipolar Knighting: Praise someone one minute, blast them a new pee-hole the next. I'm just not good at that.

Quote from: "Asmo X"Anyway, this a legit send-off for a FFH legend. No one shit up the thread any more. Post your favourite Voldemort posts.

I'm not sure what you mean by that last sentence. I'm a reasonable chap.

I just think Voldemort deserves more respect than he's getting. If a mob were to corner Zodiac and demand that he explain/justify/apologize for banning someone who simply irritated him, he'd have the right to say, "This is my forum; go to hell." Whether or not you consider EVERY banning that has been done on this forum as justified doesn't change the fact that Zodiac can abuse his power all he wants. My question is: what makes Voldemort different? He deleted a bunch of topics out of rage, those topics have been restored, Arch's moderator account has been banned, Arch explained why he did what he did, Asmo called him on some of his reasons, he admitted (conceded, whatever) that he crossed the line and has chosen to accept his ban. Has he been completely graceful about it? No, but lines like "You will die alone" and "nothing of value was lost" aren't attempts to provoke an apology. It's alright to insult him over this one mistake, but if he fights back at all, he's being a whiny martyr?

I don't contribute much of anything to FFH these days, but I can't help but want to step in and point out bullshit when I see it. Voldemort is being held to a double standard here.

He's digging a deeper hole because people keep ignoring what he's truly saying and provoking him with semantic bullshit.

Voldemort abused his moderator status; he has admitted he crossed the line, and he is willingly accepting his ban and moving on from FFH because he knows he's no longer able to control his rage toward certain users, as an objective moderator. That's what I've understood from his posts. I'm not sure a ban is necessary--stepping down from moderator status seems like it'd be enough. EDIT: If he really wants to walk away from FFH, that's his choice. This is a hobby, and that's life; this isn't working, and that's still life.

Personally, I think R999 deserved to have those delusions of grandeur slapped out of him/her. Voldemort went about it the wrong way, sure, but I'm not going to blame him for getting angry about that Marketing bullshit. Zodiac has banned people for less--is it really worse when Voldemort uses mod powers out of spite? In my mind, Voldemort has been the mind and voice of FFH equally as much as Zodiac. Some people are choosing to ignore that, in favor of doing the mob thing.

I think LD's post was meant to be positive, like saying, "Let's remember the stuff we appreciated Voldemort for, rather than the [insert full list of recent mistakes]," but the emphasis on the latter half made it come off as negative. I can't blame Voldemort for having a knee-jerk defensive reaction to it, but he should take a moment to remember that it's, like, c'mon man.. it's like, Lasting Dawn, man. C'mon.

Ha ha!

My wife's family has a cabin up in Boulder. We go there all the time; it's the perfect place to get away from society, and the neighbors are far enough away that no one can hear anything that might be going on.

I already gave my opinion on that poem, Mel, over on the Clave. But I'd like to point out that this particular bit:

a hopeless case if --- listen: there's a hell
of a good universe next door; let's go

..I rather enjoyed that sexy little slice of enjambment. So here it is, the first time I've ever enjoyed some small aspect of whatever it is that E.E. Cummings does.

Respect +1 POINT
Re-read +1 POINT
Lifted passages in order to work it into my social drinking nights +1 POINT
Remembering that E.E. Cummings doesn't use capitalization, ever, even for his name -3 POINTS
Melanchthon found this in something called The Outlaw Bible of American Poetry +6 POINTS

THIS ROUND: +6
NEW TOTAL: -176

We're almost on our way!
