Title: Season One Arena AI Tournament Registration
Post by: CT5Holy on March 27, 2012, 03:58:13 pm
It's time, folks!

Register by PMing me (http://ffhacktics.com/smf/index.php?action=pm;sa=send) your teams (one team per player), following the same rules and format we all know and love:

If you would like to revise your team, please re-submit your whole team. Do not just list changes.

-Any Zodiac, including Serpentarius, is legal
-State which palettes you want your team in
#0 Black
#1 Blue
#2 Red
#3 Green
#4 White
#5 Purple
#6 Yellow
#7 Brown

RULES:

REGISTRATION FORMAT:
Name

Movement
Right Hand
Left Hand
Head
Body
Accessory

Primary abilities known
Second abilities known

For example

Counter Magic
Magic Attack Up

Flash Hat
Black Robe
Sprint Shoes

X-Potion, Ether, Remedy

VERY IMPORTANT: Based on map placement:
• Unit #1 will be on highest panel and Unit #4 will stand on lowest panel
IF the panels heights are about the same:
• Unit #1 will be the nearest unit to access a high leveled area.
IF there is no high leveled area:
• Unit #1 will be in front of the others.
Note that I used constantly "Unit #1". But in fact if we'd have 4 units on different heights, for example #1 would be placed on height 7, #2 on height 5, #3 on height 4, and #4 on height 2.

Check the Master Guide (http://ffhacktics.com/smf/index.php?topic=6483.0) for all the information you'll need to build your teams!
Also take a look at the very handy Team Design Helper (http://ffhacktics.com/smf/index.php?topic=8202.0) by Gaignun
And the Arena patch itself (http://ffhacktics.com/smf/index.php?topic=5625.0) so you can actually test!

Also note to everyone that the Finals of this tournament as a result of our poll will be fought in best 3 out of 5

The map order for that final are small map, large map, medium map three times (if necessary)

Good luck to everyone entering this tournament!

Can you generate a RNG-generated team?
Title: Re: Season One Arena AI Tournament Registration

I have no objections to it.

I still say we should set the deadline for mid-May.
Title: Re: Season One Arena AI Tournament Registration
Post by: Wiz on April 03, 2012, 11:36:46 pm
I have to disagree Eternal, three weeks worth of time to register is more than enough. 4/17 (Mid-April) was what I had in mind seeing as that's how long people were given to register for S5. I'm curious to see how far Gaignun's come along generating the maps for each match, since that's a variable which should be accounted when making an official deadline.

As of now, I can easily c/p the Season 1 FFT Arena Tournament Video Page (A rough draft of course) and prep up ahead of time. Actually, I nearly forgot about making an intro clip, which I think I'll get to now considering I'm off work tomorrow.

To be honest, Wiz, three weeks were enough last year for S5 because it was in the summer, so I had three full weeks to test daily changes to my team.  For S6, I don't have that time right now and likely won't until early May.

I can have the maps generated with the press of a button.  All that's needed is the number of players.  I was thinking of generating the maps once registration closes for this reason.

@ fdc - Three weeks isn't enough!? I made and finalized my team within a few days (6 hours throughout that time period) at most while dealing with a 40 hour a week job. You may be in school, but that's not a good reason to not be able to create a team within that allotted time. Besides, dragging on a tourney's not a good idea by prolonging as to when it actually starts. I'd rather get this and everything else out of the way well in advance that way people aren't asking questions later.

@ Gaignun - Sweet! You wouldn't mind generating a bracket as well and assigning the commentators their sections to record too would you (Given the fact that you'll have the maps generated for each match)?

Just a note, due to the results from the "bo3 or bo5 for the finals?" poll, I'm not going to record the championship match due to it being completely unfair to the loser's bracket champ.

Sure.  Who's hosting?  I've got you, Barren, Fanatic, and Avalanche.  Is there anybody else?

Go ahead and sign me up with My First Mime, even though they're rather rusty, and sometimes incredibly boring with all the defense... looks 3 short of a nice, pretty power-of-2 right now.

Not at all. It's more of trial and error in understanding the AI on how they function. Make a team, test it against a few other ones, and keep doing so until you're satisfied with your refined product. That's all there's to it.

And yes, it's very fun to watch the AI slaughter each other into trillions of pieces :D

Yeah I've been watching some matches on youtube, and they're much more entertaining than I thought they would be.

I don't know if they'll be as interesting to watch if it's my team getting torn to shreds though haha.

^, don't want to make a loser's intro, accidentally erased the files off of my Laptop + it's in an MP4 Format, which Camtasia doesn't recognize unfortunately.

Quick question: Do you have to spend 250 jp to unlock any classes for your abilities? Eg. A Squire with abilities taken from 3 other classes would have to spend 4x250.

Made some necessary updates to the patch and I'll list them below along with the .ppf of course...

- Lost Sacred Precincts (Map #54), Murond Death City (Map #69), Grog Hill (Map #81), and Church (Map #95) coordinates are changed to what they were in Season 5. And as a result of this, it's fair to say that Grog Hill's now a small map since the teams are so close to one another.

- Weather Effects are disabled meaning no more rain in fucking caves (More importantly no bonus to lightning/ice nor penalties to fire elemental attacks)! This also means that it should be daytime in all maps (No accuracy penalty to archers at night is what this does)

- Globe from Besrodio's house has been removed meaning there's more space to move around (Like S5).

If anyone has objections to these changes, please let me know and I'll make a poll to vote as to whether these changes will be implemented into the tournament or not.

Hey, my name's listed in the other sign up thread, but not here. Is that an oversight, or did I forget to do something that I should have done? I haven't officially submitted my team yet because I'm still tweaking it, but I definitely plan to submit it before the deadline.

Don't worry about your name not showing up, just submit your team by April 28th and you're in good shape for the tournament! :D

Oversight, but even if you reserve a spot, if you don't submit your team by the deadline, you will not be in the tournament. So submit those teams. Less than a week remaining!

Because it happened last time, I'll post the deadline again...

Quote from: CT5HolyApril 28th, 23:59 PST

In case people can't read, that means @ 11:59:00 PM PST / 12:59:00 AM MST / 1:59:00 AM CST / 2:59:00 AM EST, the deadline closes, not the moment it hits 4/28 @ 12:00 AM EST like last tourney where people bitched at me for their clumsiness and lack of comprehensive skills.

So yeah, for those of you who are making your teams last minute, don't say I didn't warn you.

Without revealing too much on your end, what timezone are you in, CT5Holy?

I need to know so that I can procrastinate about this as long as possible...even if I'll probably have a team to you within the next hour or two. Maybe.

OF COURSE! EDIT: That didn't end up happening, but I probably won't procrastinate until the last minute. Probably.

Going out on a limb here, but:

For everyone submitting teams today (that are not revisions/updates), if there are mistakes, I will give you an extra day to fix your teams, as I will not be able to check teams until Sunday in 3 hours.

Deadline for submitting teams still holds. This is just in case there are mistakes for all you late-comers.

I figure it's only fair - I want as many people to participate as possible. I hope the hosts are ok with this?

Unlike what I normally do, I tested my team and spent a great deal of thought on it, even down to the ideal speed for my #4 unit given his move set....

...

...So of course I will lose twice immediately and be eliminated from the tournament. I know how things go with me. The day I go straight up RNG will be the day I bring home the gold.

I seem to recall getting walloped by you, FFMaster, in the last tournament I entered (though it may have been the one with my Cheesey Monk team instead). I would love a rematch, even if the outcome does not change :)

39 teams displayed as registered, and at least 4 more to come.  This tournament is going to have a lot of seeds by the current look of things.  I'll sort seeds by the results of last tournament.
Title: Re: Season One Arena AI Tournament Registration

I'm guessing that it's too much work to do pools to determine seeding correct? That would be the best way, but that would be a lot more work, and I definitely understand why y'all wouldn't want to do that.

(At the buzzer....)

Ha, I was totally being sarcastic about the last-minute thing, but between wasting my Saturdays like always, having to actually put things down in type to make sure I wasn't going over the JP cap (since I still use Excel 2003) and the forum being slow for me all of a sudden, that was almost a "thing". Sorry, CT5Holy.

Heh. That makes me sounded more invested than I actually am, but my crappy team is finally in, so that's one less thing to worry about. Still, I can't help but feel like I should have went with one of the (far) more damaging teams I had in mind, instead of going with Doku No Kyoukai just because formerdeathcorps' made mention of being unable to think of a way to redeem it.

Perhaps I should have left said redemption to someone who can actually make competent teams. Oh well. I'll probably lose Round 1 like FFMaster, so it shouldn't be around to bore anyone too terribly long.... [/rambling]
Title: Re: Season One Arena AI Tournament Registration
Post by: formerdeathcorps on April 29, 2012, 03:44:54 am
You can redeem Doku no Kyoukai but you'll need to make your units really tanky.  Same with nameless song, I think.  If anything, Doku no Kyoukai is more usable than nameless.
Title: Re: Season One Arena AI Tournament Registration
Post by: The Damned on April 29, 2012, 03:54:45 am
(Yeah, the AI is probably smarter about Doku No Kyoukai than Nameless. Probably.)

Oh, they're "really" tanky (theoretically, since I can't test on this crappy computer). It's more a matter of the fact that I ended up with little in the way of (active) healing, especially since I pretty much always used Arrow Guard even before Guns went apeshit over everyone. Probably should have given one of the girls HP Restore, but I have crap luck as it is, even before trying to rely on Critical-only triggers.

We'll see how much I fucked up soon enough, if only because my match will probably end up being 20~ minutes even if I "win".
