Title: Team Design Tool
Post by: Gaignun on December 20, 2011, 11:42:12 pm
Greetings,

I would like to share a spreadsheet I wrote to assist the team design process.  The spreadsheet streamlines calculations I make when putting a team together, such as damage output, success rate of support skills between party members, and so on.

Information is taken directly from the FFT Arena master's guide, so any errors in that guide will be reproduced in this spreadsheet.

Let me know of the errors you spot (that are not consistent with the master's guide) or any changes you'd like to see.  The spreadsheet uses some formatting rules that are not compatible with versions of Microsoft Excel earlier than 2007.

Current version: 1.09
Compatible with FFT Arena v1.42a
Required software: Microsoft Excel 2007 or later

  • Damage formula for Houkouton is not implemented.

  • The Weapon spreadsheet might display incorrect maximum achievable PA/MA when accounting for elemental strengthening.

  • Meteor Rod's spell proc is not displayed in the Weapon spreadsheet.

  • Two Hands and Two Swords XA modifiers might not be properly implemented.

Just started messing with this, and it looks really cool and useful. Everyone should check this spreadsheet out.

Is there a way to make it check for any target Brave/Faith? What about enemy Supports and Statii like Protect/Defense Up?

At the moment, it only considers fellow team members' brave, faith, support skills, and status.  It's possible to obtain data for every scenario, but it must be done by configuring two separate Unit worksheets, which is a little cumbersome.  I suppose I could create a "battle simulation" worksheet in the next version for in-depth skill analysis.

Alright, thanks for that.

Forgot to sticky the topic, so I just did it now.

This is quite excellent.  Playing around with expected damage output of builds has been quite entertaining.

Very nice! This looks incredibly useful, though quick tweak you should make, diamond helmet has initial reraise and float

And in the dancer class PA save is read as 40 JP not 400

Just to make sure it's just my inexperience with Excel, EVERYTHING I need to make a tream is in this tool?
If not I'm basicaly just copy pasting everything from the guide?

I'm not sure what you mean by copy-pasting, but yeah, it presents you with all the choices you need to make when designing a team.  Rainbow Staff doesn't work properly, as I am too lazy to code its functionality, but everything else should be true to form.

Version 1.02 is released.  I don't have time to perform in-depth troubleshooting, so there are bound to be a few bugs in light of all the changes 1.38 brought.

In the FFT Arena master Guide it says that Coral Sword is water elemental AND strengthens water.  In the TEAM DESIGN TOOL I'm trying to equip the Coral Sword and there's no indication that Water is strengthened.  Nobody probably noticed because Coral Sword is so underwhelming.

EDIT: FIXED KEY PHRASE and placed in bold.

The Coral Sword does strengthen Water, though. If it's selected in the memcard generator, an S appears under water, which means it's strengthened.

It IS, at first glance, underwhelming. But that's compared to the others, as it has it's uses.

Anyone know why I can't open this?
I've been into watching arena videos for a while and want to finally make a team but I'm unable to open the file.
Is it because I'm running excel 2013? Shouldn't make a difference I wouldn't think.

That's odd.  I don't think it would make a difference either.  What error message is it giving you?
Title: Re: Team Design Tool
Post by: Mudvayne on June 07, 2013, 04:28:42 pm
I can't copy/pasta the message but this is basically what it's telling me:

Excel cannot open or save any more documents because there is not enough available memory or disk space.
To make more memory available, close workbooks or programs you no longer need.
To free disk space, delete files you no longer need from the disk you are saving to.

Now obviously the disk space error is not my problem as my hard drive has over 800 gb of free space left on it AND this is the only excel file I have downloaded on my computer. I use it very in-frequently for school but that's saved on my external hd, which is 1 tb (same as my computer HD).
Even when I save the file on there and attempt to open it I get the same message,
I also don't have any other excel files open etc etc so I'm not sure why I'd get this error as between my laptop hd and my external hd I have ~1.6 TB free space so that's obviously not the issue...

What's your RAM? It's also referring to memory space. Perhaps you have too much stuff going on.

Otherwise I've googled the system error. See if this works:
Quote

Hi,

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Community. As I understand, you are unable to open a particular Excel file which is downloaded from the Google docs.

Since the issue occurs with a particular file, it might be file specific issue.

Just a quick question:

What is the format of the File?

Save the file locally on the system and then try to open the file and check if it opens fine.

Right click on the saved file, click on Properties and uncheck the option Block and then try to open the file and check.

If you are still unable to open the file in Excel then open the file in CSV format, save the file as Excel file (.xlsx) and then try to open the file and check.

I hope the above suggestions helps to resolve your issue. If you need any further assistance reply and we will be glad to assist you.

Thank you.

Opening the file with the 'block' unchecked solved the problem.

Thanks Dokurider  ;)

We should update this tool for Arena 139. It would make team building a tad easier.

Edited in all the equipment and class changes.

If anyone knows how to edit the yellow boxs in this pic I'll send them the file to finish. Until then I'll be slowly figuring out how to update the last part.

Should be everything for 1.39c. The yellow boxes for the abilities are Input Messages through Data Validation.

Came up with a very crude solution to get Tsumazuku and Houkouton to forecast correctly that shouldn't interfere with anything else.

EDIT: Now with the correct headgear stats, thanks reinoe. Also now the Mime class unlock cost is included in the total JP, is that what you meant?

Fantastic work!!!!  I tried doing simple updates and couldn't get them to work.  I uh...immediately noticed that Mime's haven't been allocated their 3k jp.  Although a temporary fix is to just calculate up to -3k.

Black Hood isn't allocating 30 MP.

I have a rather frustrating issue... i can't use this tool due to the fact i can't get microsoft excel... part of me wishes i could make a port to another program but i can't as i don't know how its coded.. its not anyone's fault... its just frustrating... having to wait for people to make matches kinda makes me more and more anxious for more... is there an alternative method of getting teams made for a memcard?

MemCardRex and FFTastic were used to generate memory cards many moons ago.  I'm not sure if these programs are compatible with the current patch, though.

FFMaster has a brief tutorial on these programs here (http://ffhacktics.com/smf/index.php?topic=2651.0).

I just wanted to say that I absolutely love this and use it very often.

I had a good laugh going back and seeing my self posting on here back in 2013 about not being able to get the file to open. That's when I FIRST started messing around with making teams in arena.

It only took me... two years? after to finally post one here?

Thanks for the kind words, Mudvayne.  My objective is and has always been to make team design as painless as possible.

The latest version of the Team Design Tool is uploaded just in time for the single-class tournament.  In this version, I added a new spreadsheet called "Weapon." This spreadsheet calculates weapon damage over the range of achievable PA or MA.  I tried to make it as robust as possible, so it took quite awhile to write.  (Writing inline code with Excel's inbuilt functions is a real pain!)

I originally wrote this spreadsheet to guide my own recommendations concerning weapons in the balance thread.  I figured it had a bit of utility in team design, too, so it kind of grew from there... over the course of 1~2 years.  I might continue to tweak the spreadsheet in the future.

Edit: A few minor things, like skill tool tips, are not yet updated.  I'll get to them in due time.

Version 1.06 is released for compatibility with FFTA 1.41.

So many things have changed this time around, so there are bound to be a few inaccuracies. Let me know if anything is wrong or broken and I will get on it.

Version 1.07 is released for compatibility with FFTA 1.41a.

A few quirks in the Weapons spreadsheet have arisen due to the changes patch 1.41a made to certain pieces of armor.  I would fix these quirks, but I simply lack the willpower.  That said, the spreadsheet as a whole should still work mostly as intended for those seeking to compare the relative strengths and weaknesses of weapons.
