You bastard, you made me think of losing my GBC in a Dublin taxi, then realising I could run a GBC emulator on PSP, then realising that I can't get CFW for my PSP.

I never listened to pokemon with the sound on.  Stuck to the radio or normal music or something.  So I'm immune to that sort of thing.  But slap on just about any FF4/FF6/CT music and I melt.

Also!  This is my come hither look!

...when you actually form it into words, Aerith sticking Cloud's sword into Tifa's behind sounds all sorts of wrong.  And there's room for a much more detailed and yet still accurate description than that.

Never played a Pokemon game, but you want to talk nostalgia?  I'm pretty sure I suffered ALL of these deaths.

I am an old old man.  By the time Pokemon came out I thought it was too much of a kiddie game for me.  I'd actually be willing to try it now, especially since I could probably find one for the GBA that I can afford.

Wow, Shadowgate... that takes me back as a boy that game scared me so much, glad to see that the game is nowhere near as frightening as my memories would make it seem.

I... never played that game.

"You were slimed."

Love the game over music.

Yeah, Shadowgate was the tits back in the day.  Took me FOREVER to figure out how to kill that damn werewolf bitch, back in the days before GameFAQs.

Regarding Pokemon, would Silver be a good entry into the series?  Once I get my oil tank filled I'll finally be able to spend a little money on myself.

The Silver / Gold era is regarded as the best by some, including myself but I only played Red, Yellow and Silver - all ruled, but if you lose your greed, you lose interest.

Post by: philsov on November 12, 2009, 05:24:26 pm
Silver/Gold or Red/Blue/Yellow are the better ones of the series.  Anything past that assumes you've already played the previous game in some fashion so a lot of the basic stuff is left out imo.

Eh, I kind of like all the features and options added to the later ones.  The only major drawback, in my opinion, is that there is too much of a reliance on brute force in most metagames due to the strongest pokemon usually being based around brute force.

I really like FF4 and 6, how about this one from FF4, it only plays once in the game, but I love it with all my heart.

I'd link the opera house scene from FF6, but that's low, I doubt anyone who played FF6 wouldn't cry. I mean, not cry, just get nostalgic n'stuff.

Indeed.  Crying is reserved for 'Forever Rachel'

Though, the opera scene doesn't really get to me.  I snagged an mp3 of it some time ago -- 23 minutes featuring a live orchestra/band -- puts the Black Mage version to shame.

Whoa! For real? Name of song and author, and dare I say it, source?

Also, Locke & Celes 4ever.

Seriously, if you ever played this game as a child this song gets you pretty fucking pumped, I remember playing this game a lot with my brother

And philsov, I'd be interested in hearing the song you mentioned

I too am interested in this, the only live version I ever heard of this song had an awesome orchestra, but I didn't quite enjoy the vocals (it's easily found on youtube, but it wasn't my kinda thing)

Hell if I know.  The tags are dreadfully generic.  On a guess I'd say it's a capture from the Dear Friends venue that made its rounds, but I really don't know.

edit:  after looking at youtube, it looks to be from the Tour de Japon bunch, seems to feature the same vocals.  But it's certainly higher quality audio.

I'll see you that and bring out its father.

RAD RACER.  Which... I, well, played with my brother a lot too.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iMD1Lp8DU50 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iMD1Lp8DU50)

Odd notes:

1 - Rad Racer was "programmed by NASIR".  Yes, the same guy who did both FF1 and Secret of Mana, which leads to...

2 - Rad Racer?  Yeah, squaresoft, bitches.

3 - You strongbad fans may know this tune, remember:  it's rad racer and strongbad stole it.  It isn't strongbad's theme~

Dammit. I loved Guile's theme.

And when you beat him, he's like... U AAAh U Aah
