An interesting thread with a pretty unique purpose.  1000 sprites though? That seems... an odd thing to see. How many are we up to anyhow?

Post by: kafei on October 10, 2009, 05:51:18 am
I'm very much interested in them, and I think they look nice; I might even use the Skeleton in my own patch. Anyway, you're doing a lot of spriting around here (much to LD's joy, I'm sure). Even though you've only been around about as long as I have, you've managed to do a lot for the community. Keep up the excellent work, and keep the sprites coming.

By the way, I'm interested in seeing what your Laharl looks like!

It is about time Bro. . . should include your other sprites and concepts that pop into your mind here. . . that way looking for your work wont be so hard. . . great new concept for Ramza. . .
Title:
Post by: jimmyjw88 on October 10, 2009, 09:54:49 am
Haha...nonsense, Mike. Why would no one be interested? They are looking great! And yeah, its about, Mike. Haha. But 1000 sprites though...? ^^
Title:
Post by: SolidSnakeDog on October 10, 2009, 10:17:58 am
There barely about 50 sprites submited on this site if im right xD Making 1000 of em will take years lol!
Title:
Post by: mav on October 10, 2009, 11:24:48 am
Post all your works-in-progress here MiKe. Showcase your talent! Great sprites by the way, though I must admit I'm not a huge fan of Ramza's hood/cape color, and I don't know whether that little design at the bottom of Doga's robe should stay. Each sprite looks pretty great though. Doga's hood (on his portrait) seems a little too low though. All around greatness. Hurray MiKe.

Remember to submit 'em, if you haven't already.

I already saw Laharl, it is cool, only his throat is "sucked inside".

And Mike, tell me who is this Wylfred?? I played VP 1 and 2 but I never meeted Wylfred, is he fromk "convenant of the plume"??
Title:
Post by: Seushiro on October 10, 2009, 12:02:14 pm
Yep he is from covenant of the plume and wants to kill the Valkyrie. . .
Title:
Post by: Kagebunji on October 10, 2009, 12:12:08 pm
Oh, his sprite will be interesting, he has white hair if I recall correctly. Isn't he son of Queen Hel(was she called like that?) or something?

It is strange that nobody did any VP sprites yet, gotta finish Lezard :)
Title:
Post by: Seushiro on October 10, 2009, 12:23:11 pm
I dont recall if he has white hair or not. . .(will check wiki later)

oh yeah there are no VP sprites out yet with a full sprite sheet. . . even Lenneth was an abandoned sprite. . .

Wow thanks guys, I wasn't expecting this.
Eventually, I will submit them.

Hopefully I learn more from this site and from you guys in the future. :P
The 1000 is a tribute for my 1000th post~.

Ahh. The great old mad mav who was the first guy to teach me how to do portraits.. :)

Thank ya~! Also, I'm more into image editing than spriting, so I can't showcase my other works here..

Ahh yeah, Laharl is quite.. tall in this one.

I think it's bec. of his hair.

Title:
Post by: jimmyjw88 on October 12, 2009, 11:16:15 am
I see. Thanks. Haha. A lot I don't know who they are and where they are from ^^
I don't even know where Zefane from until my sister watched Code Geass. Haha. Silly me ^^
Title:
Post by: Seushiro on October 12, 2009, 11:32:33 am
I did not know he was from Code Geass. . . watched the whole 1st season dnt remember. . . I really thought it was Mike's original. . . but that would be great to have Lulouch Lamperouge made. . . the guys is like Delita he played everybody. . . except the fact that he made it look cool not like Delita who I hated after he became king and all. . .

Edit: ah silly me it came to me Zefane = original name for mercenaries.
concept of sprite was from pics of Lloyd Asplund the scientist for Lancelot in Code Geass.
Title:

Zefane is the name of the sprite for Mercenaries. Hehe ^^

Post by: Seushiro on October 25, 2009, 11:59:57 am
Looking great with your WIP Lazuli. . . hmmn you left out two pieces from the arms cuz I am certain this is type 1. . . probably 1 is hidden during the punch sequence and the other arm is the one attached when using an item which some sprites like ramza have it in the last frame of the action sequence. . .
Title:
Post by: MiKeMiTchi on October 25, 2009, 08:59:40 pm
It's because there were arms already from the last frame of action seq, so those 'cut' arms won't be needed anymore.
Thanks!

Therefore, with this method of spriting, we can eliminate making 2 arms! yeah! Thanks to Malak. :)

Here's my newest artwork:
(Originally a request from a person)

I've been stagnant at spriting these days, because they take my time for other important stuffs.
Hopefully, in the next holidays, I can show off some new sprites. Chill.

edit:
btw, I have finished the female reliquian sprite, too,
but the hair would be constant at blonde..

2nd edit:

Title:
Post by: mav on November 13, 2009, 08:26:23 am
Gorgeous image, man.

I don't see a problem with all female Reliquians being blond--aside from some very negligible tweaks, most generics have the same hair color. Though if you really want a fix, you may just have to change hair and skin together to pull it off.
Title:
Post by: MiKeMiTchi on November 13, 2009, 08:36:12 am
Problem is with the portrait..
take a look mav..

Some colors for the hair is also used for the skin..
so, it'll greatly affect the sprite, too..
Title:
Post by: Kokojo on November 13, 2009, 10:07:31 am
This... is seriously one of the best portrait I have ever seen. They may be one or two bad pixels -the middle hair does not proprely- but the concept is phenomenal, kudos!

Quote from: "MiKeMiTchi"Problem is with the portrait..

Erm, no it won't, portraits have an independent palette from the sprite so it doesn't matter what colors are where.
Title:
Post by: mav on November 13, 2009, 04:54:24 pm
Unless I'm completely misunderstanding what you're saying, there is no problem with the hair on the portrait being used to color the skin too. I do it on virtually every portrait I make: all that means is that you have to change the skin and the hair the exact some way. Brown hair, brown skin. Blond hair, yellowish skin, etc--and do the same with the sprite. The problem with the portrait is that the color used as the background for the portrait is also used as the lightest shade on the clothes--you won't get any palettes outta that.
Title:
Post by: MiKeMiTchi on November 13, 2009, 06:11:55 pm
Ahh yes, that's a huge problem too.. Hmm.. seems that I have to rework the portrait..
Thing is, I can't make the hair green, blue, etc.. :)

thanks mav.

@auradragon,
Hmm.. I wanted to make 8 different palettes with different skin and hair colors, so I can also change the hair color with limited colors.

@kokojo,
thanks man, yeah there are a ot of bad pixels here imo..
we'll see bout that..
Title:
Post by: mav on November 13, 2009, 06:21:37 pm
I doubt you wanna do this, but if you get rid of the red crystal things you can probably fit enough shades in to completely separate her hair and skin tones on the portrait.

Also, I've attached a version that separates the shade used on her hood with the background color. It's still 16 colors and has just about the same level of detail as the original.
Title:
Post by: MiKeMiTchi on November 13, 2009, 07:11:53 pm
Yay thanks mav. :)
hmm.. yeah I doubt I'll remove the red things..
Title:
Post by: jimmyjw88 on November 14, 2009, 12:50:44 am
The red crystals are great on her clothes. It'll look bit dull and normal without it, I fear.

3Ds Max is a (rather expensive) 3D modeling program. Used by students and companies alike.

I uh... acquired.... an older version some time ago, but lost it on a burnt out hard drive :(

Autodesk 3DS max isn't free though.

Kind of a late responce but the crystal looks to polygonal. Or like a crushed aluminum can litered on the ground. Every thing else looks Very Great! The grass particularly!
Title: Mike's unfinished sprites
Post by: MiKeMiTchi on May 31, 2011, 10:02:49 am
Here are most of my sprite sheets that I left unfinished.
They are almost done, and I am hoping someone else can finish them, because I don't think I have
spare time to work on them. Feel free to edit them, but make sure you'll add my name if you'd post them
at the finished sprites submission topic. ;)

There are a total of 4 .gal files:

Female Reliquian
I'm not sure if this one was actually posted at the finished sprites topic, so I added this.
Completion: 90%

Female Gambler
Most of you guys wanted this girl to be finished, so here you go!
Completion: 90%

Bikke
Hmm... Just a franken-sprite for Mercenaries. I never was actually motivated to finish this.
Completion: No portrait

DONELazuli
This one is my avatar's sprite. Sadly, I can't finish him anymore.
I love this character. Please finish him for me! :)
Completion: 80% (needs recoloring)

Hmmm, the gambler girl. I have been looking at before in the past, is it just the torso area in the middle section of the sheet that needs to be altered? It looks like female archer's body right there. I guess I can go ahead and try and rework it. That one with your avatar is real neat though! Also mitchi I did already tinker with your female reliquian to the point where it was almost finish if you ever wanted to do some touch ups to it. Its in another post somewhere... probably my old spriting post. Let me find the link then I'll post it here.

Ok, first of all, upload Lazuli as BMP(every other file as well), since gal is the most fuckin stupid file I ever saw. Whenever I change background, whole sprite disappears, and only few things are left(for example blue from boots and belt). I bet this is the gal file, but after I saved it as a BMP, it did the same shit. I don't know what is going on anymore, most basicly gal sucks and sheet got screwed thanks to this, it could also be that Gale is not agreeing with gal files at all. Fix it somehow, cause I am set on finishing Lazuli for ya.

Here is the .bmp

I suspect your problems were with layer selection kage.

I flattened the layers into one before saving as .bmp

Well, what do you know... After an embarrassing year (and some days *.*) of nil sprite progress, I proved myself wrong. It seems like I kinda accomplished something this past few days, and I feel *really* glad posting this baby. Uhh... good thing I still remember how to insert a portrait! All it needs now is some minor color tweaking and testing, I think...

Here, at last, Lazuli: (CnC's are always welcome)

I dunno who Lazuli is and if he is a character from some game or anime, but aside from that this is a really good looking sprite. I like the recolored Malak body and the hair is really cool. Good job Mike, great quality after a year lol

This topic deserves some bump! ...I guess. xD
Well anyway, I'm glad I was able to import a game over screen thanks to the latest shishi, here's what it looked like 0.5x:

The placement is a bit some pixels off, so I'll fix that soon enough.

As for this ciritical sprite, who else thinks it looks tiny/wierd/off?

It looks ok to me, only thing I would do is make the eyes closed, but it's really just an option.

That seems like a good option. Why didn't I think of that earlier!? Thanks Kage.
Title: The Pub
Post by: MiKeMiTchi on June 08, 2012, 01:20:21 am
I didn't know there was a map like this... >.<
I've been experimenting with other images, and I didn't think I would come up with this. *evil laugh*  :wark: :wark: :wark:
Transforming maps into background images are certainly interesting.

Thoughts? Are there other maps interesting enough to convert into a background~?

Agrias portrait fix
A minor edit to the old Agrias portrait to make it resemble this art more:

What's fixed:
-Eyebrows
-Some back hair locks
-Middle fringe
-Upper left face shape fix

Title: Re: Mitchi's sprite/art thread
Post by: MiKeMiTchi on January 05, 2013, 04:38:29 am
I always wanted to match both mime's look. I prefer Lijj's unmasked mime more than the vanilla since it shows eyes, which makes her more similar to the male one. But since unmasking the mime means less point for 'mimicry', why not do the other way around and give the male a mask?

I used the female's mask (and made it round), took the female thief's bandanna tie acting like ears and mask tie, and gave alternate colors to the leg clothes.

What do you think? xD
