Ramza, a sprite change for Mercenaries?

Yes, Gafgarion is a constant, it's slightly symbolic but it's also because it's not very fitting of the character, to have too many sprite changes.

Helmetless Gafgarion is such a fantastic piece of art, in both his sprite and portrait, so keeping him constant is definitely a good idea. And keep in mind that he's not on your formation screen like Rad and Ramza; we see those two so often that they need sprite changes, unlike Gafgarion (the same thing went with the generics in Vanilla: with all the job changes, you never really needed to alter their appearances)...

And Rad and Ramza are still kinda young: think about how many times you may changed your hair style, clothing style, facial hair, etc when you were younger (or at your current age). Now look at some of the older folks you know: they tend to stay relatively the same over the span of a couple years.

the sprite on the right of rad needs to be finished above the others... even though it has anime-like blue hair it is a damn good sprite

Well that's part of Gafgarion's charm. He actively goes around in Rusted armor it shows his age and experience to trust his fate to such.
